Reggie Jackson was a mistake from day 1 that they compounded with that ridiculous contract. Stan Van is on thin ice, in my opinion.
Ugh, unless we get a 1st that trade makes no sense, and giving up a 1st makes no sense for them. Can't imagine that actually goes down

Well, it doesn't look like it will go down now. I wouldn't have minded, if only because Rubio has 1 fewer year on his contract (if I recall correctly) and he might actually fit the team better in that he's a pass-first PG.

Anyway, this team is going absolutely nowhere. The upward trajectory has clearly leveled out at this point, and given how much money we have tied up in so few guys - who aren't even clearly guys to build around - this is pretty much 100% on the GM/team president. The on-court play is pretty much crap as well. 2 of those positions are the same guy, so....

        We're pretty stagnant

it's annoying, but the trade deadline is coming up and my fingers are crossed we'll do something, our depth is really strong, but it's a bunch of mediocre dudes who do the same thing, so I'm also trying to be realistic

Would you rather be the 8-seed (as we're currently sitting as of this moment in time) or in the lottery? I know which I'd rather be....

What a disaster. This has been the most disappointing season I can remember. Absolutely pathetic effort, at least we'll have an interesting offseason, although I thought the same about the deadline. No one is off limits. Fire sale, name your price.

yeah lottery and it's not even close, even though the ping pong balls never go our way, this team doesn't deserve the playoffs. In fact, if I'm SVG, even if we still somehow sneak in, I'd decline it like teams decline NIT invites lol, this is horrible and unwatchable

The team is regressing. Honestly, I think the game has passed SVG by. There's no way this group of players will ever be a competitive team in the modern NBA.

I think it's time to part ways with SVG and start over again. We need someone with new ideas in Motown.

He doesn't seem to get today's NBA, it's not PnR and midrange and post stuff anymore. We had shooters, the PnR with 3 out wasn't the worst strategy, but Stan moved everyone who could shoot for overall talent upgrades, but those talents don't fit what he's trying to run!

I've been suggesting for awhile that he's stockpiling these middling guys in an effort to pull off a quantity for quality trade, but that's looking pretty damn bleak at best right now.

Plus, why does he want to be the second rate Spurs? We keep bringing their backup centers in (Dedmon next?) Think about it, Reggie is a taller/longer Tony Parker with fewer skills, Ish Smith is Patty Mills, and Stanley Johnson was drafted as a Kawhi prayer clone.

This franchise is driving me crazy right now, and why the hell are we dead last in FT attempts as a team even with Bang a Drum at play? What is this ****? We can't make threes and we don't get to the line. Brilliant.

I've been ranting lately but I hate what this team has become, this isn't Pistons basketball

                  Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***

I couldn't possibly agree more with every single thing you said up there. Literally. Everything.

As a final nail in what should be SVG's coffin, the question has to be asked: what's the end-game with this team? I know that Jeff Bower is ostensibly our GM, but everyone pretty much knows Stan is pulling all the strings. We've got over $200-million over the next 3-5 years tied up in 3 guys: Drummond, Harris, and Jackson. Does anyone seriously believe that's the nucleus of a title-contending team at any point in the next decade? Harris has been great for us, but that's a hell of a lot of money for an offensively limited center in a non-big-man's league, a streaky SG masquerading as a PG, and a really nice 6th man.

This is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek comparison, but it's not totally ridiculous to make, to contrast that with a team, like, oh, say the Golden State Warriors. They have <$160-Million tied up in their top 4 paid players: some motley collection of cast-offs named Durant, Thompson, Green, and Curry.

One more example for fun? The Pistons' total team payroll is $361 million. The Cleveland Cavaliers' total team payroll? $363 million. So the only difference between us and the Cavs is DeAndre Liggins and James Jones?

I realize it's an over-simplification to just compare numbers and the salary structures are all different, but when you've got $100-million tied up in just Andre Drummond alone, that just doesn't seem like a franchise that has any idea what they're doing in the modern NBA. It's not 1982.

We're no better off now than when we were at the end of Joe D's reign and we had all that $$$ tied up in Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon. We've got no flexibility, and we can't even offload salary because who in their right mind would take Reggie Jackson for 4 more years at ~$40-million, or $30-million dollars worth of Jon Leuer for 3 more years? We're totally stuck with this BS, and basically have to write off yet another 3-5 year stretch while we try to dig our way out of yet another series of contract errors. It's f'n hopeless at this point.

The Pistons are constantly behind the league in strategy and way ahead of it in salary. Pretty much the worst place to be.

                  This sucks.

The worst part is that we're the only ones that care. This team is so irrelevant only 2 people on this entire board care to even look at this thread, let alone comment. And there are a good number of Detroit-area fans here (!).

I guess at least they'll have a fancy new stadium to suck in next year (which has to be retro-fitted to accommodate the basketball team....how fitting they're an after-thought in their own home stadium).

TL;DR: the 'Stones are in really bad shape. Bad team with high payroll and no cap space, with no flexibility to move contracts.

Honestly, is there anyone on the roster you absolutely wouldn't move for a 2nd-round draft pick?

is it a standard Duke player hatred or something specific about his game? If the guy can shoot as advertised I'm pretty satisfied. We were so close to getting Monk though
