    Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***

Sort of standard Dookie-hate, but more just him specifically - I can't explain it, but he's got a really punch-able face and irritating manner about him that made me want to strangle him every time I saw him on the court in college. Sort of like JJ Redick. I knew we were going to draft him and I was prepping for having to sort of root for his success. But it's going to be hard.

Alas, his defense may keep him from ever seeing the court in long stretches, anyway, so I might be spared.

But on a more serious note, I have serious concerns about SVG's player evaluation abilities. His free agent signings and draft picks since he's come to Detroit and basically taken full control of all aspects of the team have been less-than-stellar. Honestly, without any significant progress, and with him saddling us with so many bad contracts, I don't know how the team continues to employ him any further.

I hate to say it, but tanking for a few years might be the Pistons only long-term hope at this point.

$7M a year for LANGSTON GALLOWAY? Really Stan?

can't wrap my head around this, starting to sound like KCP is gone, which wouldn't be the end of the world if he's really gonna be a max player, but still...

I know, I saw that and had the same thought. SVG has to go. The game's passed him by. He has no idea how to compete in the modern NBA and he's screwing us for the next decade with his personnel moves and contracts.

The Pistons shouldn't be giving ANYONE $7M/year at this point. We're saddled with enough bad contracts as it is. We should be shedding salary and tanking for the foreseeable future. Why are we paying anyone right now? So we can back into the playoffs in the East and lose in the first round? And that's the best-case scenario...

New Pistons season coming up! Does anyone care?

I honestly couldn't care less. I mean, I'll always be a Pistons fan and want them to do well, but I've essentially lost all interest in the NBA. The league has no selling point whatsoever, unless you are a Golden State Warriors fan. I would be really shocked if I watched more than 1-2 quarters of NBA ball in the entire season.

I'm still in, can't help it, but I'm thinking this is it for SVG unless we win 45 games and that's pretty unlikely

Stan Van has to go. His tenure with the 'Stones has been a complete waste of time. All he's done is saddle us with a lot of bad contracts and basically delay any potential building of a competitive team by another decade.

Having said all that, there would be no reason to be building a contender right now anyway. I think every team in the NBA not named the Warriors should tank for the next 3 straight years until they get bored/over the hill. The league is a complete joke, and shell of what it was in the hey-day of the 80's. Like I said, I'll always pull for the 'Stones, but I am not at all invested in the league.

I suppose it would be worth watching a game just to see what the new stadium looks like on TV.

Buddy of mine argues with me all the time about GSW, he sides with the majority that they're bad for the sport, while I'm the dork everyone hates that says "I just like watching them play". He hates Durant, Curry, and Draymond (which is weird since he's a sparty guy). I tell him over and over I'm not a FAN of the Warriors because I'm a Pistons fan and always will be, but their games are exciting on TV, the crowd is always great and their style is entertaining as hell. For me, this isn't like when the Bulls were dominant in the 90s and I hated them, I don't really have a reason to hate the Warriors.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they'll win every year for the foreseeable future, **** happens, the rivalry they have with LeBron is a fun storyline for me, and if it's the same finals again this year I won't be mad. The west is very strong and I don't like the idea of giving them a free pass over SA or Hou, but I expect those series to be fun to watch.

He compares it to my backup fanhood of the Patriots, which started simply because of Brady. If the Lions play NE you're damn right I'm rooting for the Lions, but since (until recently) the Lions so infrequently make the playoffs I root for my Michigan boy year in and year out come playoff time

still not sure that would be enough tbh, this team has no direction and making the 7th seed without implications of a better future won't save him. This team feels like it's what it is, without room for growth, and being up against the cap already is just... bad

Damnit, now I'm annoyed with myself for already seemingly giving up on the season before we have played a single game lol

Optimism: Maybe Bradley is just what we need, maybe Reggie finally heals, maybe Drummond suddenly makes 60% FTs, maybe Galloway turns out to be a great signing, maybe Stanley Johnson turns the corner and becomes a stud, maybe Henry Ellenson will actually play, maybe Cool Hands Luke will be the deadly outside sniper we so desperately need

                      Go Pistons!

I've actually said the same thing for the past few years. They're fun to watch and not inherently hate-able. But going forward, I just can't see the league being even remotely interesting with the eventual conclusion being a mere formality.

Any Spartan that hates Draymond is no true Spartan. Although, having said that, once they're no longer playing for the Green-and-white, their career is only of limited interest from my perspective. I don't get this whole rooting for a guy for his whole career because he went to your alma mater. Any Spartan that goes to the Patriots is getting rooted against, end of story.

True, but would you put $100 of your own money on the field vs GSW? I wouldn't put $10 of my own money on the field. I mean, anytime your only qualification is "barring catastrophic injury....", it's as close to lock as exists in sports.

I'm still pissed off that I have to kinda-sorta root for Luke Kennard. The 'Stones are trying really hard to turn me away forever....

Sadly I have no idea how betting actually works, I've never gambled outside of friendly poker tables in my life lol

If I put $100 down what would my return be? I live paycheck to paycheck so to take the question literally I'd say no, but if the return was something astronomical I might have to think

But I'd also put $100 down on the Tigers winning the world series next year assuming those odds are a billion to 1 if I actually had $100 to toss around haha

Ha ha....my point wasn't to pin you down or make you answer, it was more rhetorical than anything. I suppose what I was really driving at was: if I were putting up my own money, would I really bet on anyone other than the Golden State Warriors to win the title?

Sports betting can be fun, but it's way better to not engage in it....no one I've ever met is positive over their lifetime. It's a fun activity if you're in Vegas and want some action on the games, but other than that, it's largely a waste of money....

Early impressions of Little Caesar's Arena for the 'Stones: they are clearly guests in the Red Wings' palace....

It's too early...we beat the Warriors 2 years ago when they went 73-9 or whatever, so I'm not getting too pumped yet.
