Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
It's too bad no one is dumb/desperate enough to take on Blake Griffin's contract from us, because he's actually having a hell of season and would otherwise be a great tradeable asset to a playoff contender. His game is much better than I would have thought when we first got him.
Unfortunately, the only team fool enough to take on a contract like that has already done so.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Heading into the year, there were several hopes that I had for the Pistons. The idea being that if most went right, the Pistons would be a middle of the road playoff team and could at least get some entertainment out of them in the short term.
Some of these came true, namely Blake Griffin playing well after training camp, more modernization of the offense, Reggie Jackson staying healthy and a solid enough D. However, despite the ideological improvement of the offense, the FG% is ghastly, and Dwane Casey was unable to get much of anything out of the previous regime's draft picks, as opposed to what he did in Toronto. Ultimately, injuries have taken their toll on Reggie Jackson and he isn't a good player unless he's exclusively running PnR.
Therefore, I was fine with what Detroit did at the deadline. They got market value for Bullock and turned Stanley into a 1 year flyer on Thon Maker. It would have been nice to get something out of Ish Smith's expiring. It might have been fun as a fan for the Pistons to acquire Mike Conley and would have improved the team, the cost was too high in assets and contract and it wouldn't have solved the issues the Pistons have at the 2 and 3.
Many sites have the Pistons statistical playoff odds over 50%, but it is probably best for them long term to miss. Then in the offseason, you look to trade Drummond, cut GR3, wait out the Jackson/Leuer/Galloway/Smith dead weight and enter 2020 with more options. The main challenge will probably be getting Gores on board; the rumor and innuendo is that the Pistons were shopping Drummond, but Gores killed the supposed deals.Comment

Yeah I'm not thrilled about Gores nixing Drummond deals. Let the FO do their thing, the guy is a generational rebounding talent but that's about it.
On the bright side, Thon has always been pretty intriguing but just couldn't get the run in Milwaukee, I'd like to see what he can do with consistent minutes.
Playoffs, I don't even care lol, this team can be too frustrating to watch sometimes, I'm not sure I want to see them get dismantled in a series.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

If anyone was willing to take Drummond off of our hands, that would have been a huge jump-start to our re-build. As is, we have so much dead-money and lack of flexibility, as we've all detailed before a million times, that this is looking like a 10-year project at this point. And with the current ownership, it's unclear that even in ideal circumstances, they'd do the right thing to steer this ship correctly.
Also, I always thought the Conley rumors were stupid. Why would we do that? It's not like we're 1 guy away from being a serious contender. The last thing in the world the 'Stones should be doing at this point is giving up draft picks or future potential assets. At this point, draft picks > wins or playoff appearances.

Gores obviously can't identify 'good basketball people', and is light-years behind the modern thinking and strategy of the game. Handing over the complete reigns to Stan Van Gundy was obviously a mistake, as evidenced by the team's play and personnel moves during his tenure. As a reminder, SVG's draft picks as president/coach:
Luke Kennard
Henry Ellenson
Michael Gbinije
Stanley Johnson
Darrun Hilliard
Spencer Dinwiddie
The lone remaining player from SVG's drafts on the current roster is Luke Kennard. Anyone think he's going to be on our roster long term? We're looking at 4 completely wasted years in the draft. And the free-agent signings were equally unfruitful, and even worse, costly (in terms of assets, cash, and future flexibility).
Dwane Casey can only do so much with this roster, and as far as I know, we still don't have an actual general manager. It's actually surprising we aren't in dead-last, given the total lack of leadership and vision from the front office on up to the ownership.
This franchise is a total joke, and completely unworthy of anyone's time. At this point, we can either enter into a 5-7 year rebuild, a 10-year rebuild, or an endless rebuild. But make no mistake, those are our only options. Signing guys like Blake Griffin and hanging on to players like Drummond basically only extend the timeline to when the rebuild can begin.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Amazingly, the Pistons are in the 7th seed in the East right now. Although that's obviously more of an indictment of the Eastern Conference than it is a credit to the team. But, give the guys credit, they're hanging around. I think everyone knows we're much better off losing out and slipping back out of the playoff picture (which, given how tight it is around the bottom of the East, is entirely possible whether they do it intentionally or not), and no one in their right mind wants to watch a Pistons-Raptors first round playoff series, but what the heck? If they make it, it will be the first 4 games I watch all year.
But I'm entirely confident a month from now they'll be out of the race.Comment

Long term, it is probably best for them to miss, as they'd end up picking around 10-11 as opposed to 15-17 if they make the playoffs. A few sites have them getting the 6 seed, and if you're gonna make it anyways, may as well go for the 6 seed and give yourself a better chance at more playoff revenue.Comment
