Yeah, but c'mon - is there anyone that doubted it at the time? And also, there's still plenty of time for it to come true. Season's not over yet...

Having said that, since I'm pretty much relentlessly negative on the team on a day-to-day basis, I'll try to change it up and point out some positives with the team from the season.

    - By far, the biggest surprise (to me) has been how good Blake Griffin is. I really wish we could have traded him for picks to a serious contender to help with the future, but given his contract etc. I understand why he was un-moveable. Having said that, since we're stuck with him anyway, it's been a nice surprise that he's been such a great player for us. Much better than I would have guessed given his last few seasons in LA and his truncated season with us last year.

    - Dwane Casey is a good coach. Not that it necessarily needed proving again, but what he's been able to wring out of this group of poorly-fitting and mis-matched-for-today's-NBA cast of characters is pretty impressive. Even if we finish out of the playoffs when it's all said-and-done, I have to tip my cap to the job he's done in his first season in Motown.

    - If they can manage to somehow hang on to the 6-seed in the East, I like our chances to at least be competitive in a series. I don't think we'll win against anyone in the top half of the East, but if they can push it out to 6-7 games, that would be a hell of a lot more excitement than we've had for this team in ages.

I remain overall a fan of the hard-core tank for the next few seasons, but if we're not going to be in the lottery anyway, might as well try to win. Given my antipathy for the NBA in general, let's try to completely tank the league's ratings by making the ECF! Double victory for me.

Ahhh, nothing like getting swept in the ECF's by Milwaukee's hand to flip the NBA the bird.

There's a rough stretch of the schedule left that could end with the Pistons outside of the playoffs: @POR, @GSW, @Den, ORL, POR, @IND, IND, @OKC.

You might not have to worry about forcing bad ratings, if the final somehow is Bucks/Nuggets it'll take care of itself lol, gotta figure that'd be worse than Pistons/Spurs

Although Bucks + Nuggets = Buckets!

I would actually watch Bucks/Nuggets rather than channel-surf through yet another forgone-conclusion Warriors title. At least with the former series, it wouldn't be clear who was going to win.

Should the Pistons just tank their last 2 games at this point?

If they miss the playoffs after being in the 6th spot for the better part of last month of the season, that will be a bit of shame. I know the difference between 6th and 9th has been at most like 2-3 games, but nevertheless - anything other than a 5- or 6-game losing streak to end the year gets us to the post-season. Of course, they are headed for a 5- or 6-game losing streak as we speak...

I'm getting tired of the "fall behind by 15+ early and try to make a cool comeback" script

it worked tonight, but this is what we're going with as a playoff push?

I suppose at this point they might as well try to win since the difference between draft position at #8 vs. #9 in the conference is (statistically) limited. But it's sort of disappointing that 2 weeks ago they were the #6 seed.

Honestly, if they can't beat an actively tanking Knicks team to get in, then they certainly don't deserve to sully the airwaves in the post-season. And even if they do get in, the prospect of losing by 20+ every game en route to getting swept by the Bucks doesn't really get me amped up to watch them in the playoffs. This is why getting the 6-seed was so important; there's a reasonable chance we could be competitive in a 3-v-6 series against the 76ers, or even in a 2-v-7 against the Raptors. But based on this season's results, we really haven't been competitive in 4-5 games against the Bucks, and that was at regular-season "intensity" (insofar as that exists in the NBA).

I figured that stretch would be rough, but there were some losses to bum teams too in there. Pistons still have a tiebreaker over the Magic, so the 7 is still in reach, but I'm not optimistic.
