Yeah, but c'mon - is there anyone that doubted it at the time? And also, there's still plenty of time for it to come true. Season's not over yet...
Having said that, since I'm pretty much relentlessly negative on the team on a day-to-day basis, I'll try to change it up and point out some positives with the team from the season.
- By far, the biggest surprise (to me) has been how good Blake Griffin is. I really wish we could have traded him for picks to a serious contender to help with the future, but given his contract etc. I understand why he was un-moveable. Having said that, since we're stuck with him anyway, it's been a nice surprise that he's been such a great player for us. Much better than I would have guessed given his last few seasons in LA and his truncated season with us last year.
- Dwane Casey is a good coach. Not that it necessarily needed proving again, but what he's been able to wring out of this group of poorly-fitting and mis-matched-for-today's-NBA cast of characters is pretty impressive. Even if we finish out of the playoffs when it's all said-and-done, I have to tip my cap to the job he's done in his first season in Motown.
- If they can manage to somehow hang on to the 6-seed in the East, I like our chances to at least be competitive in a series. I don't think we'll win against anyone in the top half of the East, but if they can push it out to 6-7 games, that would be a hell of a lot more excitement than we've had for this team in ages.
I remain overall a fan of the hard-core tank for the next few seasons, but if we're not going to be in the lottery anyway, might as well try to win. Given my antipathy for the NBA in general, let's try to completely tank the league's ratings by making the ECF! Double victory for me.
