As the old saying goes "You don't walk off the island". Their ball players typically earn MLB contracts by smashing the ball out of the park.
You'd think their boxing programs would mirror that mentality.
I think it comes from the fact that Olympic success is the only path for Cuban fighters, since there are no professional sports in Cuba and it's all under government control. Also, a lot of that infrastructure - the trainers, etc. - historically came from the Soviet Union in the 1960's, and so that style of fighting has persisted. Dictatorial communist regimes are not exactly known for changing with the times, after all.

It does seem disparate that their style of play in baseball is so flashy and entertaining, but I guess that again can be traced back to the roots of the sport in Cuba, which came from the U.S. players playing down there in the pre-Castro era.

Didn't see it, but it sounds like Mosley looks like a 44YO boxer.

I hope he retires soon. He's still a good fighter but nowhere near championship calibre.
Why risk further brain damage if you're simply going to be an Opponent?

I think he is still fighting because he owes his ex wife a ton of money. She was his manager and cleaned him out

Just shaking my head at how guys continue to let this happen to them...but I guess when you're "in love".....Someone needs to introduce these guys to the concept of diversification of assets, holdings, and accounts.

I watched the fight, and it was exactly what you would have imagined it would be. Sad in every way. His kid was on the undercard and looked...okay, I guess, for the most part? Hard to tell.

You didn't miss much. I think Jr. Mosley was campaigning at middleweight (at least as of his last fight).

I see where Artur Beterbiev is fighting this weekend on ESPN. I thought he was abducted by aliens.

I think Mosley is worth a few million, but he apparently likes to spend it.

vargas vs salido....all i can say is WOW! definite FOY so far. i'm somewhat ok with a draw, but i had salido winning 115-113. fights like this is why people should watch boxing.....on a different subject, crawford vs postol should be a great matchup, but why the hell is it on PPV? the casual fan has absolutely no clue who either fighter is. this fight should be on regular HBO. no wonder why boxing is hurting. oh well....

You're right. I posted this at the end of April.

"Crawford versus Postol is now official, but it goes to PPV. Arum is downplaying the numbers in saying 100,000 buys would be sufficient, and admitting that Crawford activity and limited regular HBO dates are forcing the "pay format", but how are they going to sell this unless they go down in price.

Having said that I've been looking forward to this ever since I missed Postol's impressive KO win over Matthysse, but not at full price PPV."

EDIT: The undercard doesn't excite me either:

                          Gilberto Ramirez vs. Dominik Britsch
                          Oscar Valdez vs. Matias Rueda
Jose Benavidez Jr. vs. Francisco Santana
