      JR Comeback

I can't remember for which fight it was, but does anyone else remember the series that followed JR leading into a fight? The one where he spent most of his time getting high and swimming instead of training.
I think Freddie Roach was his trainer at the time. At one point, he called Freddie to his home to work the mitts and belly pads really late at night.

JR's never really had to work hard and early in his career he had success because he was a 185lb dude fighting at 154 and 160 - but with youth on his side, he could shed the weight without any negative affect.
Once that advantage was taken away, he became a punching bag with a solid chin.

It'll be interesting to see what he does in his return bout. I'm more interested to see if he's actually serious about his career or he just needs the money because Daddy's allowance doesn't cover his weed consumption.

        Whyte fails another drug test:

I definitely remember that. I think it was the "24/7" before the Sergio Martinez fight? I remember him standing around looking stoned and eating a bowl of cereal at like 11 at night while Roach was berating him about his work ethic (or lack thereof). Sadly, he was probably 20 seconds away from winning that fight via 12th round KO, although as we subsequently found out, Martinez was well on his way down from the peak of his skills already by that point. And then of course Chavez Jr. tested positive for weed after the fight (although why they even test for that is beyond me).

I was a supporter of Chavez Jr. for a long time, because I felt like he had potential and was generally involved in exciting, action fights, but at some point, you can't continue to support someone who doesn't give 2 craps about the sport or his skills. He essentially never got any better and as Money99 correctly pointed out, basically made a living by being able to make weights well below his natural weight. I think he had potential, but it was completely wasted due to nothing other than laziness and lack of motivation.

He's done and any chance he had to be a good fighter in his own right went away 4-5 years ago, he's just the only one that doesn't know it. Or, perhaps he just needs the money (as noted above). Either way, he is a completely irrelevant figure in the boxing landscape at this point.

LOL, I remember that cereal moment too! So funny.

Sergio Martinez was a beauty. At his peak, he was nearly unbeatable at 154-160.
There used to be a documentary about him on Netflix. Was really good.

Speaking of weight advantages, watching the Browne-Pascal LHW fight and I think both these dudes are close to 200lbs right now.
              Both look huge.

I really didn't need to see that headbutt in the Browne-Pascal fight in super slow-mo.
You can see the skin get torn open. Looked like a piece of roast beef flapping above his eye. Nasty!

                EDIT:
Hilarious. Browne dominated that fight, but was caught by two clean hands and that's all he need to get the technical decision. Browne was knocked down 3 times and it cost him this fight.

Still, it's hard to win cut abbreviated fight when you are at an 0-3 knockdown disadvantage. I missed the fight. Was it on DAZN or ESPN+?

It was free on Fox (I cut the cord so finding these events for free via antenna are gold baby!).
Both of the key knockdowns in the fight were carbon-copies of each other; Brown throws a right-hand with his left hand by his waist and Pascal throws an overhand right, right on the button.
The 3rd knockdown was due to Browne still being on queer street from the 2nd KD.

Browne was easily the better fighter tonight, but two mistakes and whamo, his undefeated record is gone.
Even his trainer was yelling at him to keep his left-hand up.

I did not realize Browne was that big a favorite. Admittedly he was a touch under my 175-pound radar.

I'll be honest, I knew absolutely nothing about Marcus Browne prior to that fight. While I agree that on a technical basis, he was probably winning that fight, it is hard to argue that the guy that got knocked down 3 times - decisively, no less - was the winner. I mean, I don't think Pascale was ever even really hurt in the fight. But that headbutt....ouch.

I don't know what to make of Kownacki. I feel like he might be a lot better than he "looks" (whatever that means...I don't know), but it would be surprising to me if he was able to compete at the very highest levels. I think it's hard to say, given how fallible even the top guys in the heavyweight division are at this point. There isn't anyone that I think is head-and-shoulders above the rest in that division at this point.

Marcus Browne has a pretty decent resume. He beat Badou Jack and quite a few undefeated or good record boxers world-wide. Kownacki is a middle-class(not poor) man's ButterBean but I can't see him being a threat in the top 5.

what do you guys think of Canelo vs Kovalev later this year at 175lbs ?

I was surprised to read that personally. Seems risky for Alvarez to go up to that weight and swing with the krusher, even if he's lost a lot after the ward fights.

I don't think it will ever happen. Just posturing by Canelo and Oscar.

But I agree with you. Getting dropped 3x in a short fight isn’t beneficial to getting a decision, lol.
But I do believe If it went 12, Browne likely takes a decisive UD.

I’m confused by this matchup too.
This seems like a huge risk for Canelo, so I’m skeptical that it will be fought on an even playing field.
I’m guessing Krusher won’t be able to rehydrate beyond a certain weight.

But if there aren’t any strings attached, either DLH knows something we don’t, or something odd is going on in their inner circle.

I have heard that Canelo is really upset with DLH for promising DAZN a 3rd fight with GGG.
But I’m not sure these two things are related.
