It's better if you play to the strengths of your fighter. If you have a strong fighter with low sub d, then go with brute force. If you have a weaker guy with high sub d, then go for the technical escape. If your guy is good at both then choose either but remember a brute force escape is easier but leaves you in a less dominant position, while a technical escape is harder to pull off but leaves you in an advantageous position.

I guess... I've never had a problem getting out of a sub with a power guy using the stick method, but I've been submitted several times whenever I decided to change my strategy and use brute force (even with Rampage)... definitely seems that "the shine" is more effective for everyone in my experience (and I think one of the devs said as much in an interview posted before release, and I think the manual mentioned that as well).
I ALWAYS use technical escapes because it gives you control instead of simply getting you out of the submission. Only rarely and in certain submissions/positions will strong guys actually "slam their way out" (doing damage while they escape) -- normally they just pull their arm out and you end up standing in up/down, which isn't particularly useful. Give me side control afterwards anytime, especially since you can normally just immediately stand up out of side control by clicking LS anyway... if you're Rampage and don't want to stay on the ground, technical escape then stand up and you're good.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

...but then why not just go for the brute force which gives you a higher possibility of escaping?
LMAO I just made a guy quit (disconnect) online. 5-0 so far, I've achieved multiple full mounts in each of my fights thanks to the advice in this thread. Good work guys.Last edited by dbly32; 06-06-2009, 10:47 AM.Comment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
how much energy do you use to get out of a submission? I fought some guy tonight that tried submission after submission over and over and over. He finally got me on the 10th attempt or so.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
if you want to submit, my guys i use are rashad and machida. i brut force majority of everything unless the the position i use the technical escape will really benifit me, you can land sub when there stanima's low and some health is gone, but the thing you will risk what always happens to me is i submit then they get out, were both out of stanima, then they submit me. right now i am 68-22, but if any of you got xbox360, add me .... gamertag popttartComment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
looking over things - I think they went about submissions wrong.
Submissions should be hard to actually get into position for. It seems way too easy to just have to click a button when someone is tired for the win - or to spam submissions and what have you.
I'd really like to see them work on that - and I'd like to see them make getting into extremely advantageous positions harder, but more rewarding.
It seems they could somehow make it so that a fighter make has to lock a limb or two in place before going for something... It just seems to easy that one just needs to click a thumbstick for their fighter to grab the arm and start pulling, or to grab their leg; it would be nice if there was some sort of submission block, like their is a transition block - so it adds another level of depth where players can risk giving up position in order not to give up their leg or something.Comment

they should make going for subs drain more of your energy so people are not so quick to try them too.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
I find that, online, people who use heavyweights are not very good on the ground. It seems that they use heavyweights just because of the standing striking. I have been most succesful on the ground in the heavyweight division. Out of my 20 KOs I think maybe 5 of them have come standing up.Comment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
It actually seems kinda cheap now that I think of it, but all but two of my wins have been KOs from the mount position. I would have another submission, a beautiful north/south choke I put on Rashad Evans with Shogun Rua in the first round, but the POS disconnected as soon as Evans tapped. I think it's funny when people try to apply a submission one minute into the first round, I actually love it. It's like giving me the side control without having to work for it myself.Comment

I wouldn't say it's cheese at all.Comment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
I agree and don't think it is cheese at all. I mean there IS A WAY TO STOP IT. Guys online compain alot about getting mounted and pounded. All I say in response is stop it. It ain't cheesing if there is a sure fire way to counter it or stop it.
My Brother was also complaining cause I keep mounting him and knocking him out. He had the audacity to say if I didn't take him to the ground he would beat me every time. So I say fine then the next few fights I won't take you to the ground at all and If I counter your strikes I will just let you up. Needless to say he got knocked the hell out trying to go toe to toe with the champ.Comment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
One of the great thing about this game, is THERE IS NO CHEESE.
Everything has a counter, there is nothing that can be abused because if a person tries to, you can reverse it to your advantage.
That being said, I do feel kinda bad pounding the crap outta people from the full mount when it's obvious they have no idea how to stop it. But I just think of it as incentive for them to learn.Steam: BahnzoComment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
How do I work the clinch better? I have a Muay Thai guy and I like to use that special clinch a lot, because those knees are so badass, and my created guys best abilities are his kicking and clinch strikes. But sometimes I can do 3 or 4 whip knees to the face, and sometimes I can't do anything and they are free before I even attempt anything. How do I keep the clinch, and how do I defend the clinch? I fought Vandy and he had me in that crap for like 45 seconds straight...hahahah.. Also, I have another guy, a Kickboxer, and like 95% of the time I do the clinch, they are out of it before the first strike. Is there some right stick action like the ground game that keeps them clinched or what? :/Comment

Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread
When you have a guy in the Muay Thai clinch, you shouldn't necessarily do whip knees nonstop. You can just hold them in the clinch, it doesn't mean they're going to immediately escape. You can go with regular knees, and also low knees by holding L2 with X or O. As for defending/escaping, I just hold the right stick away from the opponent and I hold R1 (high block) as soon as he starts to go for a whip knee. I usually take a bit of damage, but I eventually am able to break the clinch. Wanderlei had me in that single tie collar thing or whatever it's called which was harder for me to get out than Anderson Silva's MT clinch.Comment
