Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I'm speechless with all of this AE hate. Yeah there was some goofy stuff mixed in but it was must see TV every week. When is the last time you felt like an episode of RAW was a can't miss episode?Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I feel like there is very little middle ground on nostalgia.
Like the in ring stuff was generally not good. However, as someone who is watching weekly Raw, Nitro,Thunder,Heat and PPV in order and has been for a few years I can tell you going back and seeing this stuff again it’s great. Lots of dumb stuff sure, and I wouldn’t want the current product to be AE again, but it’s not 99% bad.

Even the bad stuff was memorable to me though. Sure the guys today are much more athletic, but very little in the past five years since I started watching again has stuck with me.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Star power and crowd reaction definitely helps the lower down guys too. Fans are so excited for the main guys, they'll watch lower guys too. You tune in for the stars, and stay for the rest of the show.
And as much as people want WRESTLING, how many of AEs most memorable moments came because of the match itself? It's always because of the way a match ends/the result, or storylines happening in promos.
We'll remember everything like Venis and Kai En Tai, Mae Young and the hand, Godfathers gimmick(not so much any of his feuds/matches), all of that stuff. But are we gonna remember specific moves/matches as much (minus the insane ones like Mankind in HIAC, or TLC spots)Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I'm sure it's been beaten to death but the AE flourished because it was a product of its time (the late 90's shock culture), it had great characters, two mega superstars (Rock and Austin), and compelling storylines. Wrestling is not why the AE was drawing in 4, 5, 6 million viewers; it was everything else.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Correct. Although I’d say the Undertaker still works because he was an established gimmick already. But yes, I’ll die on the hill that outside of the McMahon/Austin stuff which was genuinely compelling TV. 99% of the AE wasn’t very good and it is far and away one of the most overrated things ever.

Yep. The Rock, DX, Foley, Angle, Kane, Edge and Christian, the Hardy’s, Dudley’s etc etc were overrated.
99% chance your post is one of the stupidest in OS history. (I can hot take too)Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Original DX was corny as hell. Also, all those guys did their best work in the RA era. Sorry I upset you. Here let me give you a hug

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I’m not the one that can’t tell the difference between RA and AE 🤷🏻*♂️
But I’m sure once you get all your angrys out you’ll be fine. Look forward to your next post in another month or so [emoji1303]

No angrys here. I’m not the one who said something foolish. RA started in 2002 but I guess I’m the one misremembering all the guys I listed winning the title before then or the TLC matches or everything else but hey, keep deflecting. Like the great George Costanza once said, it’s not a lie if you believe it.Comment

Lol whose deflecting. Standing by my statement. I’m not the one who got bent out of shape and insulting. That was you my man.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I don't think the Rock, Austin, McMahon, DX did their best work in the RA era because they were either not in that era, or they were in for maybe a year or so. And let's not act like the 2006 version of DX was better than the AE.
Secondly, don't discount commentary. I wish we had the technology to dub over today's Michael Cole commentary with AE stuff and see how psychological it is. I compare it to a laughing track on a sitcom. Try watching a sitcom without a laughing track. It's not as funny.
2000 is my favorite year minus the Golden Era stuff. I think it encapsulates the AE the best. You had technicians like Benoit, Jericho, Guerrero. Brawlers like Hardcore Holly, Bradshaw, Test. Tag Teams like Edge and Christian, Hardys, Dudleys, and yes...…….Right to Censor.
And while 50% was over the top, I would say that in 2000 50% were also good matches. It was the perfect combination of what fans were looking for.
That's just my opinion. Like I've said before, I need more than a high spot fest and a shock face after countless 2 counts to get me intrigued. I'd rather take a headlock, hammerlock, abdominal stretch fest.Last edited by PeoplesChampGB; 06-20-2019, 04:24 PM.NFL- Green Bay Packers
