Not really. It was Bret who unveiled the AEW title. He said in an interview that he never made any more appearances for AEW because he was afraid his niece would be punished.

Considering Martha Hart’s relationship (or lack thereof) with WWE, this doesn’t shock me at all.

No…weird was 100% the right way to describe it.

Who in AEW’s management had strong ties to Owen? This could just be the cynic in me but to me this feels like can do this so they’re going to just as a shot at WWE. And if that’s the case(I’m not saying it is) what a gross misuse of Ownes memory.

And even if WWE decides to get all petty on Natalya, at this point, there is a path to AEW for her if she ever wanted to go.

Obviously TK was a big fan growing up, so I'd imagine Owen was one of the guys he was a fan of. And you do have some people working backstage that either worked with Owen, or at least were part of that era.

And of course, younger names on the main roster who were inspired by guys like him, and older named who competed with or against him.

I agree, if WWE was allowed to do all this, AEW wouldn't be. But they're not doing it because WWE isn't, they're doing it because WWE can't. I'm sure part of the reason Martha might be doing it is to raise more money for the foundation, and also to spite WWE, but AEW is doing it to honour one of the only names in wrestling who people never get to honour because most of his career was in WWE, and they're not allowed to do anything with his name or likeness.

If Martha wants to do it and AEW wants to do it, fine...but it's still weird.

Are wrestling companies going to start celebrating other people who they have no connection to? When's ROH's John Cena Night?

You mean like WWE putting people in their HoF who never worked for their promotion?

I always thought that was their way of honoring people in the industry's past.

I never had an issue with them doing that or with AEW deciding to do this in honor of Owen. Especially knowing this will never happen in the company he actually worked for.

Owens case is as unique a case as there can be, and hopefully any similar scenario never happens again. There obviously won't be a Cena induction into some random company's HOF.

But let's say Vickie forbid WWE from inducting Eddie into the HOF or ever doing anything with his name or likeness again. Would anyone have a problem with Eddie being honoured elsewhere when you know for a fact it wouldn't ever happen in WWE?

Like I said, if Owen was already in the WWE HOF, is included in video games, has merch still, and gets treated the way Eddie's legacy still does in WWE, it wouldn't make sense seeing AEW doing something like this.

WWE at least owns those promotions don't they? Or at least the video archives or something like that? Like how they can bring up NWA stuff because they have the footage.

Same with WCW inductions. Sure, most WCW talent were part of WWE at some point, but let's not act like those inductions had anything to do with their WWE career.

Yeah, I think that’s kinda weird too.

Sorry my mild criticism of calling something AEW is doing weird offended you though. “But WWE!”

                      Re: AEW Off-Topic

It would be weird to me if Martha Hart was on good terms with WWE, and WWE honored Owen with a HOF spot, and sold his merchandise, and was in their video games, etc. etc.

It's a way for Owen's legacy to be honored in the professional wrestling world. AEW contributes to the Owen Hart Foundation. AEW gets to sell Owen merchandise and include him in their video games. Martha sticks it to WWE.

                      Everyone is happy.

I'm not saying there's a problem with this, it's just weird. Like, when they show tribute packages..... is it gonna be all the NJPW stuff? Doesn't WWE own the tapes for the Canadian terrioty Stu ran?

No. Not at all lol. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Vince and Co had ties with a lot of the older talent. And before AEW, I was OK with accepting it as a wrestling HoF as opposed to the WWE HoF

I mean, he also had a hand in putting a lot of those territories he (or rather Vince Sr) had ties with out of business. It's cool with me that WWE has honored a lot of people from different promotions, and it's cool that AEW wants to do the same. It's all wrestling.

Legit question because I honestly don’t know. Has WWE put anyone in the hall of fame that never appeared in a WWE ring or WCW or ECW ring? And how many WCW/ECW exclusive guys are in the Hall of Fame?

Sting is the obvious first name I can think of where clearly he was inducted because of his WCW career. Even if he never competed in WWE, it was happening, they were just waiting for him to either not be with any company, or just sign on with a legends deal or something.

Even Jeff Jarrett, while they didnt really mention it, you know he wasn't inducted for his WWE run, that had to have been more about his TNA stuff than anything else.

I think lots of people in the legacy wing weren't ever part of WWF/WWWF, but I could be wrong since most were way before my time.
