I am tinkering with my format to get ready for MLB 17. Please feel free to leave comments if you like the new format or not. I will not be including box scores, just a short writeup, line score and some pics from each series. Thanks!

Series Wrap-Up: Arizona @ New York

      Aug 9: New York 4, Arizona 0
      Aug 10: Arizona 4, New York 2
      Aug 11: New York 5, Arizona 2

Neil Walker and the Mets took 2 of 3 from the Diamondbacks, sliding into a Wild Card spot.

Flushing, NY (AP) - The Diamondbacks went into New York clinging to one of the National League Wild Card spots as they tried to stop their free fall. They managed to win one of the three games and got decent pitching throughout the series, but one big inning in game three cost them and now they head to Boston with just two wins in their last 15 games.

      Game 112:

Yoenis Cespedes hit a big two run blast in the fourth.
August 9: The New York Mets came into this series winners of five of their last six. On Tuesday evening, they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 to move to within a game of the reeling DBacks for the National League Wild Card. Steven Matz tossed a complete game shutout, scattering eight hits and striking out seven along the way.

The Mets (64-48) got home runs from Alejandro De Aza and Yoenis Cespedes to pace their offense. Rubby De La Rosa, making his first start since coming off of the disabled list, pitch alright, but got no support and took the loss. He fell to (8-3).

David Peralta went 2 for 4 with a double to extend his hitting streak to six games. Yasmany Tomas went 2 for 3 with a walk in the losing effort.

David Wright went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. With the win, Steven Metz improved to (10-8) on the season.

      Game #113:

David Peralta hit a towering home run to right in the fourth.
August 10: The Diamondbacks bounced back in game two of this midweek series behind a strong pitching performance from Shelby Miller as they defeated the Mets 4-2. Miller tossed seven plus innings, allowing two runs on just two hits. He struck out five and walked three.

Arizona (66-47) got off to a quick start against Mets starter Zack Wheeler, scoring twice in the first on a two-run blast from newcomer Brian McCann. A solo homer from David Peralta in the fourth and a double-play that resulted in a run in the sixth gave the DBacks a 4-0 lead.

The Mets would make it interesting late though, scoring twice in the eighth on just one hit. David Wright single home two after the DBacks walked the bases loaded. They then had the first two batters reach in the ninth before Daniel Hudson came in and shut then down to earn his 20th save on the season.

Brian McCann and David Peralta each went 2 for 4 with a home run. It was McCann's 26th and Peralta's 32nd.

The win gave Arizona a bit of breathing room in the Wild Card race, opening a two game lead on the Mets and Cardinals.

      Game #114:

Matt Harvey was masterful as the Mets won the series.
August 11: The New York Mets won the rubber game of their three-game mid-week series over the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 at Citi Field. The win allowed the Mets to move into a Wild Card spot, just a game back of the DBacks in the National League.

Matt Harvey pitched eight solid innings, allowing two runs and scattering seven hits, while striking out four and walking just one.

Arizona took the lead in the top of the first on a Brian McCann RBI single.

Robbie Ray appeared to be in control, cruising through the first four innings, but he hit the wall in the fifth, as the Mets sent ten batters to the plate, scoring five runs and chasing Ray from the game.

Neil Walker led off the inning with a solo home run to left. Juan Lagares hit a two-run double to put the Mets ahead. Michael Conforto then lined a two-run single to left to make it 5-1.

The DBacks would get one back in the eighth on a Paul Goldschmidt RBI single, but the Mtes bullpen would shut the DBacks down to get the series win. Jeurys Familia picked up his 25th save pitching a perfect ninth.

Arizona (66-48) will now head to Boston for a three game weekend series with the Red Sox (62-52), who currently hold one of the American League Wild Card spots.

Note: I am transferring this to MLB 17 for the Red Sox series.

Do you guys like the shortened series format, or do you like to see box scores? It isn't that much more work for me, but it does speed things up a bit.

I like the boxscores because I like to see how individual players are doing.

              Game #115

              BOSTON 2, ARIZONA 1

Miguel Sano celebrates a first inning home run for the Sox

              8/12/16
Boston (AP) – The Boston Red Sox took the opening game of this weekend series with a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Steve Wright and his knuckleball had the DBacks on their back foot all night.

Steven Wright and his "junk" kept the Dbacks bats at bay in this one.
Wright tossed 6 2/3 innings, scattering just five hits and allowing just one run in picking up his eighth win on the season. He got some early help from Miguel Sano, who hit a solo home run to right in the first inning off of Nate Karns.

Arizona (66-49) would tie it up in the fourth after Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a double and Ketel Marte singled moving Ellsbury to third. Paul Goldschmidt then bounced into a 4-6-3 double play that allowed Ellsbury to tie the game.

That lead was short lived though as Mookie Betts beat out a possible inning ending double play in the bottom of the fifth, allowing Dustin Pedroia to score to put the Sox back in front.

Nate Karns (8-4) was the hard luck loser for Arizona. He went 6 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs on six hits, while striking out eight and not issuing a walk. Jake Lamb went 2 for 3 for the DBacks and David Peralta singled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

The loss leaves Arizona tied with the Mets and just one half game ahead of the Cardinals in the National League Wild Card standings. They are now (2-14) in their last 16 games.

                Game #116

                ARIZONA 4, BOSTON 1

Paul Goldschmidt hit two home runs over the Green Monster in the DBacks 4-1 victory.

                8/13/16
Boston (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks used the long ball and excellent pitching to defeat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Saturday evening at historic Fenway Park. Paul Goldschmidt hit two home runs over the Green Monster to pace the offense and give the DBacks a chance to finish the road trip at .500.

Michael Pineda pitched another masterful performance for the DBacks.
On the mound, it was once again an excellent performance from the newly acquired Michael Pineda. Pineda (11-6) went six plus innings, allowing just five hits and no runs. He struck out three and walked none. That is now back-to-back starts with no runs against Pineda, and he gave up just one run in a 1-0 loss to the Nationals in his DBacks debut.

Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the second as Yasmany Tomas chopped a ball between the mound and third that no one could get too, allowing David Peralta to score. Nick Ahmed then doubled off of the Green Monster, scoring Jake Lamb to make it 2-0.

Paul Goldschmidt then hit the first of his two solo home runs over the Green Monster in the fifth off of Clay Buchholz. He hit his second over the Monster in the eighth off of reliever Koji Uehara on the first pitch that he saw. Goldschmidt who went 2 for 4 in the game, now has 24 home runs and 77 RBIs on the season.

The Red Sox made it interesting in the ninth. Three straight singles from Miguel Sano, Travis Shaw and Doug Winslow with one out cut the lead to 4-1. Daniel Hudson then came in and threw one pitch, getting Xander Bogaerts to bounce into a 5-4-3 game ending double play. The Red Sox bounced into three double plays in the game.

Clay Buchholz (10-9) took the loss for the Red Sox, going five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.

Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 4 with two singles for the DBacks, but was caught stealing twice.

The series, and road trip, concludes on Sunday afternoon with Rubby De La Rosa (8-3, 3.01) taking the bump for the DBacks against Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2, 3.79).

I have only played two games, but wow, I am loving it. I am playing with Armor & Swords new slider set. Game plays amazing.

Of course, I am torn. I want to play with the new OSFM roster, but I hate to end this dynasty since we are in the thick of the playoff hunt....

I may wait for the OSFM with pitch edits, then start a new 17 dynasty. Likely again with Arizona. But I am open to playing with Colorado, Texas, or maybe Houston....

As for Winslow, maybe....he is a 40-year-old. Is this a transfer glitch?

                        Game #117

                        ARIZONA 7, BOSTON 5

Yasmany Tomas hit a moon shot in the second inning, estimated at 490'.

                        8/14/16
Boston (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks used the long ball on Sunday afternoon to defeat the Boston Red Sox 7-5 at Fenway Park to take the rubber match of their three-game weekend series. The teams combined for nine home runs as a gusty breeze was blowing out to center and both teams took advantage.

Chris Owings homered into the short porch in right in the fifth.
Arizona (68-49) got a much needed win to take two of three from the Red Sox. It was their first series win since taking two of three from the Dodgers July 15-17. Arizona hit four home runs in the game with Yasmany Tomas blasting two, including one that traveled an estimated 490 feet. Chris Owings and Jacoby Ellsbury also had homers for the DBacks.

The Red Sox (63-54) hit five solo home runs in this one, including four off of DBacks starter Rubby De La Rosa.

The Diamondbacks grabbed an early lead off of Eduardo Rodriguez as Paul Goldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury had to replace an injured Socrates Brito in the top of the first after Brito injured himself sliding into third.

Yasmany Tomas then unloaded on a Rodriguez hanging slider in the second and hit it an estimated 490 feet. The two-run shot put the DBacks up 3-0.

Matt Joyce hit his sixth home run on the year in the bottom of the second to get the Red Sox on the board.

After Yasmany Tomas homered in the top of the fourth, this time a pedestrian 395 feet into the bullpens, 40-year-old "Doug Winslow" homered over the Green Monster to cut the lead to 4-2.

Chris Owings hit a solo shot into the short porch in right to open the fifth for the DBacks.

That setup the Red Sox for their big sixth. Rubby De La Rosa was cruising, allowing just the two solo home runs through the first five innings, and no other hits. He got Xavier Bogaerts to fly out to right and Hanley Ramirez to ground out to Goldy to open the sixth. Mookie Betts and Travis Shaw hit back-to-back solo homers to chase De La Rosa with the DBacks clinging to a 5-4 lead.

Archie Bradley came on in relief and the first pitch he threw ended up in the seats as Doug Winslow hit his second home run of the game and 20th on the year, to tie the game at 5-5. It was Winslow's 523rd career bomb.

The Diamondbacks wasted no time rallying in the top of the seventh. Jacoby Ellsbury homered over the Green Monster to put Arizona back in front. Chris Owings and Paul Goldschmidt then hit back-to-back doubles to put the DBacks up 7-5.

Randall Delgado, Tyler Clippard and Daniel Hudson would shut down the Red Sox to close out the series win. Delgado made just one pitch before having to leave the game with shoulder soreness. He is listed as day-to-day. Hudson picked up his 22nd save on the season.

The DBacks will now return home for a quick three-game home stand against the Mets (67-50) in a crucial Wild Card battle.
