February 23, 2010: Charleston Southern vs. Radford

Radford wins an overtime thriller to clinch the Big South Regular Season Championship!!!

With just 27 seconds left in the 2nd half, Charleston Southern Junior PG Erroyl Nuualitia made a layup to give the Buccaneers the 68-66 lead. Radford came down the court and got the ball down low to Freshman PF Brandon Ray. Ray was fouled with 4 seconds left and was sent to the free throw line. Ray made the 2 biggest free throws of his life in this game, as he tied the game up at 68-68. Charleston Southern raced down the court and PG Erroyl Nuualitia threw up a wild 3 point attempt that was no good.

In overtime, the game went back and forth. Until Radford got the ball with 11 seconds left and they were down by 1 thanks to 2 made free throws by Charleston Southern Senior PF Alexis Gouard.

Radford raced down the court and Garnett drove down the lane and kicked the ball out to Freshman SF Emmett Bonner, who pumped faked and got his defender in the air, took two dribble towards the basket, and made the jump shot to give the Highlanders the win!!

Radford was led by Senior C Bud Mann who came off the bench and scored 13 points in just 14 minutes of playing time. Freshman SF Emmett Bonner finished with 12 points on 4/8 shooting and 2/5 from behind the 3 point arc. Senior PG Fredrick Garnett is continuing to play extremely well as he finished with 11 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Sophomore SG Sammy Coleman came off the bench and chipped in 9 points.

Charleston Southern was led by Junior PG Erroyl Nuualitia who finished with a game high 19 points on 6/13 shooting including 5/8 from behind the 3 point arc. Nuualitia also had 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Senior PF Alexis Gouard finished with a double double as he scored 15 points on 5/6 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds. Junior SF Asrangue Calvert came close to a double double as he scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Junior PG Barney Andrews didn't have a great day shooting the ball, but he still ended the game with 14 points. Junior SG James Ingerson came off the bench and chipped in 10 points.

Thanks!! I REALLY hope we don't get upset. This team has done so well all year and a loss may ruin our hopes of getting the Big Dance.

Out of curiosity... I don't know much about RPI rankings... The Big South has an RPI ranking of 19, is that good or bad for a Mid-Major Conference?
