March 6, 2010: Winthrop vs. Radford

Radford wins the Big South Tournament Championship win the 75-59 win over Winthrop!

This is the first time in Radford program history that the Highlanders have won 30 games in one season!

This is also the first time Radford has won back to back Big South Conference Tournament Championships!

Radford was led by Freshman PF Brandon Ray who finished with 12 points on 5/6 shooting and 7 rebounds. Senior PG Fredrick Garnett finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. Sophomore SG Sammy Coleman came off the bench to score 10 points. Freshman C Marquis Peterson was just 1 point away from the double double as he finished with 9 points and 10 boards. Freshman SG Kenny Andrews scored 10 points on 3/5 shooting and 2/3 from behind the 3 point arc.

Winthrop was led by Redshirt Junior SG Cedrick Didlake who scored a game high 17 points on 6/12 shooting. Junior PF Allen Nash had a solid game as he scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. One surprising stat was the fact that Winthrop made Radford turn the ball over 22 times, yet still lost 16 points. If Radford wants to make any sort of run in the NCAA Tournament, that absolutely can not happen.

Garnett has really steppe up big of late. Hopefully he can keep it going in the Dance.

Also nice to see Coleman finally adjusting to coming off the bench and giving you some double digit games.

Congrats on the 30 wins. Not sure what your team RPI is but I would hope that you at least get a 4-6 seed, so you at least won't have to play a #1 or #2 in Round 2.

Garnett has definitely been on a tear recently. But, getting a 4-6 seed would be great! Maybe we can get to the Sweet 16 lol.

It's gonna take a really good offer to get me leave... And you'll see why when you see the recruiting class I have.

March 18, 2010: Ole Miss vs. Radford

Radford moves on to the 2nd round thanks to a buzzer beater by Freshman Emmett Bonner!!!!

With 14 seconds left, Ole Miss led 73-72 and it was Radford's ball. Senior PG Fredrick Garnett took the ball up the court, and came off a screen set by Freshman PF Brandon Ray. Garnett drove down the lane and kicked it out to Freshman C Marquis Peterson. Peterson backed his man towards the basket and made a hook shot as time expired!!!!! So Radford will advance to the Round of 32 for the first time in program history!!!

Radford was led by Freshman PF Brandon Ray as he almost got a double double in his first NCAA Tournament game. Ray finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman C Marquis Peterson had a great all around game including having the game winner!!! Peterson finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Freshman SF Emmett Bonner finished with 10 points on 2/4 shooting and 2/3 shooting from behind the 3 point arc. Freshman SG Kenny Andrews didn't score much (4 points) but he made up for it by filling the stat sheet. Andrews had 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and didn't turn the ball over once.

Ole Miss was really carried by just 2 players. Sophomore PF Ulrich Blake finished with a double double by scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Blake also had 2 steals and 2 blocks in the game. Junior PG Ronny Laurelin had a great offensive game as well by scoring 21 points on 6/10 shooting and 9/11 from the free throw line.
