Re: 2k18 - 76ers "the process needs results"

    November 1st Update

The 76ers have a very tough schedule to start the season and come out of it undeafted its a great start to the year for the 76ers.

    76ers 114 - Cavs 90
Isaiah Thomas shoots only 3 of 11 for 13 points as the 76ers win easily. Ben had similar numbers to game 1 with 28 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assist and 4 steals. Embiid had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assist.

    76ers 95 - Raptors 76
The wings for the 76ers once again play lock down defense as Derozan goes a pitiful 1 for 13 with 6 points and Lowry only 2 of 6 for 5 points. Ben goes for 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assist and Saric had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

    76ers 115 - Celtics 94
Irving played well with 22 points and 6 assist, but that wasn’t enough to make it a close game. With Al Horford still injured Mohamed Bamba had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Embiid was a monster down low with 25 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assist and 3 blocks. Fultz also had a good game with 19 points and 9 assist. Rookie Bol Bol did his thing with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks.

    NBA News & Notes
The timberwolves get off to 5-0 start with the addition of #2 pick Zion Williamson.

The two winless teams are the Grizzles and Kings

The PF spot for the Thunder take a hit as Patrick Patterson is out 4-6 weeks so a lot of pressure on Jacob Wiley.

Hornets SG Malik Monk will be out 2-4 weeks

The Rockets suffered a major injury as Rudy Gay is out 6-8 weeks. They now have to start 71 overall P.J Tucker at SF, which is never a good thing. As you would expect they are trying to find a trade just with it being so early in the season it’s going to be tough. The only salaries they can offer that are expiring are 8 million and 21 million. A few names we hear are Nic Batum (hornets). Evan Turner (bulls) or Danilo Gallinaro (clippers). We don’t expect those teams to give up on the season just yet and the Rockets don’t want to trade young PF Chinanu Onuako. So they may just have to tough it out for 2 months.

The magic are off to 4-1 start with rookie Romeo Langford scoring 20.2 points per game

November 15th Update - 76ers Struggle Without Ben

The 76ers started off hot with a 5-0 start and then Ben Simmons would miss a few games some losses would pile up. After the Wizards game posted below Ben is back healthy and we will have a full report as the 76ers face the new look Warriors after Klay went to the Lakers during FA.

        76ers 122 – Bulls 81
#1 overall pick R.J Barrett’s 21 points wasn’t enough to keep this game close. 2nd year big Robert Williams went for 15 and 15. Ben led the way with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assist. Embiid had 18 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks with Bol having a good showing 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

        76ers 127 – Jazz 122
The 82-0 season will not happen as Jazz win a close one as former 1st round pick backup PG Aaron Holiday surprised with 20 points. Gobert did his normal thing with 15 points and 18 rebounds. The big 3 all played well as Fultz 25 points and 8 assist was the best game of the young year for him. Embiid finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assist and 4 blocks. Ben had a triple double with 24 points, 13 boards and 12 assist.

        76ers 95 – Pelicans 93
A Great game, which saw the game winning shot by Covington and the twin towers having awful games. Anthony Davis went 1 for 8 with 9 points and 12 rebounds while Cousins went 5 of 12 for 11 points and 11 rebounds. Fultz has 21 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assist.

        76ers 83 – Suns 105
The new and improved suns team blow out the 76ers as Ben got hurting during the game. Former #1 overall pick Michael Porter has 20 points and 7 rebounds, Chriss has 17 and 12 while Brook Lopez has 18, 7 and 5. Embiid played fair with 20 points and 5 rebounds while Fultz played terrible shooting 4 of 17 with only 10 points.

        76ers 102 – Bucks 112
Ben tried to play through the pain this game and it didn’t work as he re injured himself and would go on to miss the next few games. The bucks may be the only team to have the length to matchup with the 76ers so that could a problem down the road. The Greek Freak did it all 25 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assist, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Malcolm Brogdan helped him out with 22, 5 and 4. Fultz bounced back with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assist. Embiid also did a little bit of everything 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocks. Bol had a solid game with extended playing time 13 points and 10 boards.

        76ers 95 – Hornets 109
With Ben not playing the 76ers have their worst loss of the year as the hornets beat them handily despite Walker not doing much. Frank the Tank went off for 17 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assist and 2 steals. Monk is hurt so Lamb started and scored 24 points with 11 assist. Collin Sexton makes his debut on this list with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assist. Bol Bol has 6 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assist with Roco adding 17 and 7.

        76ers 126 – Wizards 120 - OT
It was the best game of the year as the 76ers come back down double digits in the 4th quarter for the win without Ben Simmons to win in OT. The new starting C Costello for the Wizards has 8 points and 16 rebounds while Beal, Kevin Knox and Porter all had in the mid 20’s. Bol leads the way for the 76ers with 25 points, 17 rebounds and 1 block. Embiid helped out with 20 points, 14 boards, 3 assist and 1 steal. A surprise of the game was Richaun Holmes who in limited minutes went for 20 and 5.

          76ers vs Warriors

          J.J Destroys his old team

The 76ers had been struggling after a hot start, but now Ben was back healthy. It was a fun December matchup as it was time to face the #1 team in the NBA that had won 4 of the last 5 championships.

The Warriors took a 5-point lead after the 1st quarter and they kept the small lead 6 minutes into the 2nd quarter. The Warriors had hit 7 more 3’s then the 76ers who was off to a slow night shooting. When it came time for halftime the warriors had a 63 to 55 lead. The 76ers had decided to try and double both star players and it seemed to slow them down in the 2nd quarter. They hoped that strategy would keep on working in the 3rd. The star of the show for the 76ers was Bol Bol who had 19 points and 13 rebounds in 17 minutes.

The strategy would not work as GSW came out hot in the 3rd quarter. The lead wouldn’t last long as Philly cut it to 3 with 4 minutes in the 3rd quarter. When the 3rd quarter came to a end it was 98 to 92 Golden State with a exciting 4th quarter on the way.

Ben Simmons would grab the offensive rebound and a old school 3 point play would tie the game with 8 minutes and 7 seconds in the game. Now fast-forward to 6 minutes and 51 seconds and the 76ers was down 10 points going on a crazy run in just over 1 minute. It was raining 3's for the Warriors and our old friend J.JJ Redick was right in the middle of it. He was white hot to close out the game and give the warriors a comfortable win in this game.

Ingles held Durant in check going 8 for 19 from the field. Curry had a monster game with 37 points after the removed the double team on him in the 2nd half. The story is J.J Redick who oblitered his old team going 7 for 11 from 3 with 23 points. A name nobody knows backup C Austin Wiley had 17 rebounds.

Simmons and Embiid played well for the 76ers the story is Bol Bol who once again dominated the boards. He finished with 26 rebound and 8 of those on offense. He even scored 21 points as he was able to get to basket for easy dunks and layups. Fultz has to do better then 3 for 11.

          Fultz with the pretty layup

Re: 2k18 - 76ers "the process needs results"

            Its Time To Trade Saric

Rookie Bol Bol is off to a great start and it’s clear the 20 year old is the PF of the future for the 76ers. He is currently getting about 22 minutes a game and easily could be given up to 30. He is going to be a force going forward and there is no chance of Saric beating him out as the future starting PF.

Richun Holmes (79 ovr) is just to good of a player to only join the rotation when someone is hurt. Holmes is also under contract for next year and will cost the 76ers 10 to 13 million dollars less next year then Saric will. Holmes isn’t a guy that will blow you away when you look at his grades, but he can hold his own in the 2nd unit with 15+ minutes a game. Holmes has only played in 3 games this year and played very well in those 3 games. He always seems to play better then you expect him to when given the chance.

            18 minutes – 20 points – 5 rebounds
            21 minutes – 15 points – 7 rebounds
            23 minutes – 12 points – 9 rebounds

It may seem like Dario Saric has been around a while, but he is only 25 years old and has plenty of peak years in his prime remaining. He hasn’t reached his potential yet so whoever trades for him should be getting his best years. The tricky thing is that he is wanting 18 + million per year so he has to be the teams future at PF for the deal to make sense. He is kind of a jack-of-all-trades and master of none and has great basketball IQ. His defense is his weak spot so he would be best teamed with a defense Center.

His salary is low this year so matching that up will not be a problem. The front office decided not to pay Okafor 20 million per year to be the backup and now faces the same situation with Saric. If you know you aren’t going to resign him then it makes sense for the 76ers to trade him now and pick up a future asset. Now lets look at some teams he fits on

            Thunder
They have a hole at PF and teaming him up with Steven Adams would be a good match. The unknown Jacob Wiley has played good so far, but he can easily be shifted to the bench. I don’t see how they win the west with major holes at SG and PF and Saric could be the 3rd scorer in the starting lineup. They have the cap space to sign Saric to a new deal and use the bird rights on Anthony.

            Wizards
They have tweaked starting lineup a few times this year and currently are going small with Kevin Knox a SF starting at PF. They might have the biggest hole of PF in the NBA with all the money tied up in the big 3. This would be a move the Wizards would want to do closer to the deadline as they are currently off to a slow start.

            Grizzles
We don’t love the pairing of teaming him up with his former teammate Okafor as both are offense players. They have the cap space for him and a hole at PF. They also have a young PF Deyonte Davis, but he hasn't a good year and already got benched.

Re: 2k18 - 76ers "the process needs results"

Shaq's Son Off to Hot Start in G League

The one draft pick we have yet to talk about who was taken with the 28th pick is Shareef O’neal. He is the son of NBA legend Shaq and joins the 76ers as the 2nd rookie with a famous dad.

When the draft process started out he was expected to be picked in the teens then as the draft process unfolded he dropped to the 20’s. The reason for the drop was that he didn’t have a elite trait so he isn’t expected to be a future starter and doesn't have any upside. He does not have the kind of the size and potential as he dad does still he has a chance to develop into a bench role.

He is buried on the depth chart for the 76ers so he started the season off in the G league. They are rumors Saric will be traded closer to the trade deadline, but even if that happens he isn’t expected to see any playing time this year. He is off to a hot start in the G league and even if it’s a small sample size its nice to see. He is averaging 20.3 points, 9.8 rebounds with 2.7 blocks. We also would not be surprised to see him used in a trade at some point in the near future.

Re: 2k18 - 76ers "the process needs results"

The son of Shaq is really improving it seems -- Philly is just abundant with talent.

As far as trading Saric goes, it looks to me like the Thunder are the best fit -- out of conference, need a stretch-4, and Saric being as young as he is makes it worth signing him to an extension ASAP. The floor spacing he provides will be important for the drive inside mentality of Westbrook.

You could easily just trade him for a future 1st and call it done -- OKC would pull the trigger on that deal without issue I think. When that future 1st conveys is up to you -- seeing how talented your team is right now, I'd put it at least 2-3 years down the road to allow for your current roster to grow. Adding in another young stud isn't going to help you, and having a future 1st to trade down the line could be important.
                Any comments are welcome.

                      Saric Traded to Thunder

                      76ers Record 16 - 7 (1st in East)
Thunder Record 14-8 (2nd in West

The 76ers trading Saric has been rumored for a few years now and it grew even stronger over the last few months. You never know how trades are going to turn out, but on the surface it looks like a win for both teams. This marks the first time this 76ers administration has made a in season trade.

The Thunder is the best spot for Saric to go as they have a need for a starting PF and the cap space to sign him to a longterm deal. Steven Adams can rebound and defend so they make a perfect pair down low. Saric will give floor spacing and be the 3rd scorer that's desperately needed. Jacob Wiley can move to the bench and be given more time to develop without the pressure of being a starter on a team trying to win a title. The draft pick they lose will not go anywhere for a few years and this makes them a better team now.

This move for the 76ers is a easy one with Embiid, Simmons and Bol all ahead of him in the front court it didn't make sense to pay Saric 18 + million per year this summer. Richun Holmes is perfectly fine getting 15+ minutes a game as the backup PF. The 76ers don't need another young asset so getting the future 1st is perfect. It will be a few years before they get the draft pick and you never know how the Thunder will look at the time. Its hard to see this pick ending up being a top 10 pick as long as Westbrook is healthy though. This removes the log jam of minutes for the bench players and gives them a future asset for a player that was likely gone. It also keeps cap flexibility this offseason. Patrick Patterson is in the final year of his deal.

                        Trade Alert

                        Warriors Record 15 - 13 (8th in West)
Heat Record 5-24 (last in East)

The Warriors have won 4 of the last 5 championships and after signing Kevin Durant haven't had to make any hard decisions. When Klay went to the Lakers this summer to be the #1 option it created a hole at SG. All the young guys at PF and C had improved and the Warriors didn't have playing time for all of them. They young bigs will need more $ this summer so it doesn't make sense to bring all of them back. The Warriors are only 2 games above .500 without Klay.

Iguodala has been a major piece for the Warriors success, but he is 35 and in the final year of his contract. He is still a great defense player, but his scoring is way down and this year under 4 per game. If the Warriors was going to get the help they needed at SG he had to be traded. Dion Waters comes in and will be the starting SG and J.J Redick will offer his 3 point shooting off the bench. The big news is Waters is locked up 1 more year for a reasonable 12 million bucks. Marcus Morris had to be thrown in for salary reasons, but he will join the rotation as the backup SF. He should fill the role Igudala had and overall this makes the Warriors team much more deadly on offense. Their is plenty of big's on the roster to replace the minutes Jones was getting.

As you can see from the Heat's 5 wins and 24 losses things haven't gone as planned this year. Whiteside and Winslow both got hurt early with Whiteside getting ready to return soon and Winslow out for the year. Damian Jones gives the Heat a young defender and rebounder off the bench that shouldn't cost to much next year. If they decide to go full on rebuild Jones gives them a younger and cheaper replacement for Whiteside. They haven't had many draft picks lately so the 1st round pick will be put to good use. This trade opens up minutes for Khavon Moore the 13th pick in this years draft with A- potential and saves over 12 million $ next year. We would not be surprised to see the 33 year old Dragic traded as he in the final year of his contract.

                          Fultz Breaks Ankle

Fultz was having a really good year playing at a near all star level with close to 17 PPG and 6 assist. From last year is scoring was up 2 points, assist up 1, steals up 0.3 with his FG and 3 point % also up. Its a major injury to the 3rd year Guard who will miss 8 to 10 weeks. The bright spot is he should return in time for the playoffs. Fultz has saw his overall grade go up from 77 to 85 since his rookie year and his stats have improved every year.

You will see below how the new rotation will shake out and as everyone knows the 76ers have the depth to cover up for the loss of Fultz and Saric. T.J and Sexton will split the PG duties for now with T.J officially being the starter. For now the 4th guard will be TLC as the 76ers need to see what they have in him. He is in the final year of his rookie deal and its time to decide if they want to resign him for about 6 million a year or let him walk in the summer. Holmes will also see more minutes at backup PF. Greyson Allen will be the next man up if TLC struggles or someone else gets hurt or in foul trouble.

                            76ers vs Thunder

The 76ers opened up the season blowing out the Thunder and it was time to face them again. This time it was just a few days after the two teams worked out a trade for Dario Saric. He is trying to play through a injury (-3 overall) so he wouldn’t be a full strength for this game.

It was just a 2 point game with 9 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Bol Bol got off to a hot start on offense hitting 4 three pointers so far. The game would go to half tied at 59. Ben Simmons had done nothing in the first half barley even registering a single stat. Bol was picking up the slack with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 4 of 5 from three.

It was now mid 3rd quarter and the game was still back and forth. Russell Westbrook picked up his 4th foul with 7 minutes and 25 seconds to go so that was something to watch out for. Collin Sexton was having a big day on offense and his 3 would push the lead to 12 after a 76ers run with 5:18 in the 3rd. Just one minute later Westbrook would pick up his 5th foul with plenty of time remaining in the 3rd quarter. He refused to come out of the game and just one minute later would pick up his 6th foul. He had now fouled out with 4 minutes to go basically ending the chances for the Thunder.

The 76ers took a 12-point lead into the 4th quarter and without Westbrook it was Simmons who lined up at PG. He would come alive in the 4th and the 76ers went on for a easy victory.

You could tell Saric was playing hurt as he didn't have a good game shooting only 3 of 12 from the floor. They need to find a way to upgrade SG as Alex Abrines did nothing in 33 minutes. It may be time to go back to defense players Andre Roberson or Tony Allen now that Saric is in the starting lineup to help with offense. The decision to keep Westbrook in the game despite foul trouble came back to hurt.

Bol did all his work in the first half and Ben did all his in the 2nd and both ended up with good stats. Ben had 17 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assist, 1 steal and even hit a 3 pointer. Bol had 25 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 blocks, 8 of 9 shooting and 4 of 5 from 3. Collin Sexton played great on offense and even TLC scored in double digits. Embiid continues to make his push for the all star team with 17 and 15.

TLC draws the 6th foul on Westbrook in the 3rd quarter

I REALLY enjoy reading this thread. I am currently on page 15 and I work through a handful of posts a day. I am also in the midst of running an All 30 Team Control MyLeague and it's great to hear about the ideas you have for keeping this iteration dynamic.

                              Please keep it up!

P.S. Do you turn the Hard Cap on or Off when doing MyLeagues that you hope to maintain for a number of years?

Thanks for the dedication to keep on reading and I have no plans to stop anytime soon as I am completely hooked and don't play any other sports game. The comments like this really do mean a lot. Since I control all the moves I try to make them realistic, but at the same fun and exciting.

I still have hard cap turned on as I haven't ran into a issue where that has come into play yet. Golden State is the one team where it will prob come up first after a few years.
