Tovarich: Good thing we scored a lot. Rebounding was pitiful as per usual.

Reporter: The last time you tried zone in the second half, you grabbed almost every rebound, what was different today?

Tovarich: I don't know. That's why we did it, and they dominated the boards in man or zone, didn't matter what we did.

Reporter: You haven't experimented with the lineup combos at all lately, will there by any more or is it late enough in the season that what you're doing is the best?

Tovarich: I've come a long way from my Eastern Shore days when starting in that second year, there was the A team and the B team. I mix and match a lot more. You have to recognize who's having a good game and who's not. I'd have stubbornly kept having my best players shoot themselves out of a slump in a particular game, but it's better to just go with who's hot and if people are cold, just sit them.

Yeah, my other longer running legacy isn’t dead, but I just needed a change for level of difficulty as winning so many games year in and year out starts to get old after a while, and it becomes a situation where any lost games feels like a failure and any year without a national championship feels like a failure. I’ll return to it as it’s been going for so long, but I just need some of both, haha.

You picked a safe time. I lose @ FIU a lot. I am quite bored now with the Hilltoppers but I'm not sure why so precious few power jobs have been available. I almost took a cupcake school last offseason just for a challenge.

Tovarich: Wow. Uh, I had written that one off a few different times. When they started 6/6 in the second half. When they were up 8 with 3 minutes to go. I'm stunned. Took 21 extra shots to eek out a 1 point win over an 8-9 team, but that's a whole nother discussion haha.

Reporter: Take us through the strategy at the end. You scored with 43 seconds, so you could have played defense and gotten the ball back with 8 seconds.

Tovarich: Yeah, after we watched them drain yet another 3 to go up 4, we could have had the ball back. I felt better fouling. We got lucky they missed the front end.

Reporter: What was the strategy on offense on the last possession.

Tovarich: Suotamo first, Suotamo second. They covered him well. He was standing out by the 3 point line for reasons no one could explain. So, Camper at least hit a couple 3's. So I thought we'd take our chance with him. Not surprised he missed. Despite the below average rebounding, we got lucky Jack grabbed it and went back up with it and layed it in with 1 second to go. Any longer on the shot and we had no time for an offensive rebound and any later on that, they'd probably just have hit a half court shot.

Reporter: Is there still no reliable plan B to Suotamo?

Tovarich: We got their starting center in foul trouble, so we should have had an advantage down there, and when you're 4/22 on 3's you might as well just give that up. Even I can see that.

Tovarich: Thank goodness for Suotamo and for opposing freshman centers. Even grabbed 10 boards in a game where defense lacked for both teams and there were not a ton of rebounds to be had. No one may ever top Krleski going for 53 for me at Eastern Shore, but this was incredible either way.

Reporter: Have you ever allowed 10 assists to a backup PG?

Tovarich: Probably not. Their jump shooting was really good. Didn't matter who guarded who, who took the shot, how tight we were on the perimeter. Luckily Suotamo dominated down low and we even shot 3's well.

Tovarich: At least it was the starting PG that got 10 assists this time. And luckily they were pretty much a one man team in terms of scoring. Can't believe he's only a JR. I swear he's been putting 20 on us for 4 years already.

Reporter: Is the mostly poor 3 point shooting a concern?

Tovarich: Just for my fun, not for the result. Suotamo's dominating all the Sun Belt centers like I'd hoped he would for years. It may pain me slightly to not be able to make 3's or not shoot as many 3's, but it's not exactly a problem unless Suotamo goes 3/12 some game. Only Okotie could hit 3's for them, so that's just how this game went. It'll be nice to get some when we play a good center in the NCAA tournament though.

Reporter: Do you have a go-to 3 point shooter for that scenario?

Tovarich: No, not really. I think our PG is our best 3 point shooter, then Pawlak maybe, who's wildly inconsistent. Camper and Jordan are very average at best 3 point shooters, which means I've not been recruiting properly to my style of play.

Tovarich: Not your typical game against the Cajuns. Normally we're both playing very fast, lots of transition, quick offense, lots of 3's. This was kind of a scrappier game. We got dominated on the boards as usual. Luckily they shot very poorly from 3. We got to the line more than they did. Hard to say Suotamo had a rough game, but he kind of did, not sure he made a field goal in the second half.

Reporter: Is it worse to get their starting center in foul trouble and still lose on the boards?

Tovarich: That guy may have had 20 if he wasn't in foul trouble. 10 in 15 minutes is ridiculous. Luckily he was a fouling machine. Yes, it's worse. We should do better against a backup.

                  Reporter: How's recruiting going?

Tovarich: We'll see. We're doing good on a couple people. I'm only going after a few, and I'm going to learn my lesson from last year and not settle. We'll carry a scholarship over if we must.

Tovarich: Nice to get some 3's from someone. Camper was on fire. Suotamo scored well. 0 rebounds at halftime is pretty crazy though. Then there weren't too many minutes for him in the second to grab any. Defense wasn't great but we could whatever we wanted on offense so it was still never close.

Reporter: Is Suotamo's focus on scoring what's hurting his rebounding so much?

Tovarich: It doesn't matter how many questions I get about rebounding. I have no answers. I don't know why we can't. I will likely never know.

Reporter: How does the team get motivated when they're blowing everyone out?

Tovarich: Except Arkansas State. There's always the potential for one of those games. There's FIU. We get them at home soon. Somewhere we'll lose another and maybe it'll re-focus them. In the Sun Belt tournament like last year would be preferable.

Tovarich: Bob Knight would have loved the game with so few 3's made. Hideous outside shooting by both teams. We were a bit sloppy against the press in the second half. Pawlak's a SR and shouldn't turn it over like that. Stafford finally looked like a true FR there against it at the end. It didn't feel like we outrebounded them. Their PF had 5 offensive boards alone. I question the statkeeper there slightly but maybe I just dwell on the negative.

Reporter: Is 1 made 3 a new low for your career?

Tovarich: Surely. It would eat at me more if we didn't win by 26 since we were playing a cupcake. But it sure makes me miss Tamayo and Li and Lewis and Stivers.

Reporter: Jack rebounded well, and Merriex and Ferris matched Suotamo in less than half the minutes. Is Suotamo's rebounding broken?

Tovarich: It sure is. His timing is awful for some reason. I'd reduce his scoring if I thought that would help, but I don't see why it would.

Fordham, Southern Miss, and Western Kentucky in the top 11. Marquette, FSU, and Oregon as the top 3. What a world we live in.

Tovarich: Thought we had that one under control, then a barrage of 3's there at the end and suddenly Stafford is shooting 6 FT's in the last minute. Luckily he could shoot from there. He couldn't make a layup. Suotamo didn't make much of anything in the second half either. Rebounding was pitiful and embarrassing. Couple guys had nice nights. Theirs were undefendable somehow. We almost got outrebounded by their PF. Sad.

Reporter: Want to say anything positive coach?

                            Tovarich: We won.

Reporter: You'd never know it from your opening statement.

Tovarich: We expect to win. No time for celebrating a win @ South Alabama. We can celebrate if we make a Final Four.

Southern Mississippi is quite commonly amazing in mine because they rate Larry Eustachy so high I guess. He is still there, so he's done a good job not getting photographed drinking beer with college girls. Fordham seems to have just the luck of starting 4 SR's, so that whole team unity thing is nice for them.

Tovarich: Hideous game by both teams. The shooting in the paint was brutal. I think we missed 29 shots in the paint. It was almost funny if it wasn't so frustrating. Didn't matter who it was really. Luckily we rebounded well. They were sloppy with the ball in both halves, the one we pressed some and the one we didn't. Their blocking was amazing. 8 blocked shots against people who are taller and better is incredible.

Reporter: Does this make up for the first loss to them in any way?

Tovarich: Nope. But it was nice to win comfortably against them. I'd like to solve the mystery of Pharmed Arena though.

Reporter: You can clinch the conference championship with a win against Middle Tennessee. Has the banner been autoshipped already?

                                Tovarich: Yes, before the season.

Reporter: How big was Pawlak's game in light of Suotamo struggling?

Tovarich: Yeah, he was immune to whatever the curse of the paint was. We needed someone to step up. Everyone else just accumulated points by persevering through all the misses. He was actually highly efficient.

Reporter: Georgia is for sure going to have an opening this off-season. Have they contacted you about their vacancy?

Tovarich: (gets up and leaves press conference without answering)
