Seattle, WA
Seattle sent a disgruntled relief pitcher in J.J. Putz to Colorado for a reliable utility veteran. Putz, 28, pitched 22 innings in AAA-Tacoma with a 2-1 record and 2.46 ERA. He has been itching to play in the majors, but it was not meant to be as four pitchers are ahead of him to be called up in the future.
Colorado received a solid reliever who was just in a bad situation with Seattle. Putz will immediately play in the majors, as Colorado (14-19) need as much pitching help as possible with the second most runs allowed in the major leagues.
Relaford, a Mariner in 2002, will come off the bench in Seattle, as a pinch runner, hitter, and infielder sub. He can play any position except catcher, but is more suited at 3rd or 2nd base. He has registered 26 hits so far this season, with 5 RBI, 19 runs, and 2 stolen bases as a substitute. Relaford will wear number 25, the number he wore in his days as a Mariner.
To make room for Relaford on the 25-man roster, rookie infielder, Jose Lopez, was sent down to AAA-Tacoma. Lopez is still young and is just not ready for the majors at this point in the season.
In addition to the trade, the front office has decided to send down catcher, Miguel Olivo to AA-San Antonio. Among the everday starters, Olivo registered the least hits and RBIs. He also has the lowest on-base percentage, batting average, and runs.
*Olivo, 26, is still a prospect being groomed into a major league starter. He has plenty of time to impress the M's staff.
Veteran, Wiki Gonzalez, has been called up from AA ball. He had the most homeruns, with 4 as a pinch hitter.
Dan Wilson will assume the starting catcher role, with Gonzalez backing him up.
The new M's will make their debut on May 13 in the series opener against Boston.
*I edited him so now he sucks just like in real life.
