        Colson Leads WVU Past ECU
Colson Rushes for 254 Yards in Win

        28 -- (0-3)
        44 -- (4-0)

        Morgantown, WV -
A slow start was the theme for West Virginia (3-0) in this game. Though West Virginia jumped out to a 17-0 lead early on, East Carolina (0-2) would score 2 straight touchdowns to make it 20-14 at halftime. In the 4th quarter, West Virginia would pull away, as they would claim the victory 44-28 and improve to 4-0 (1-0) on this young season.

The Mountaineers rushed for a season-high 389 yards in the game as ECU simply could not stop the powerful Mountaineer rushing attack. Jason Colson rushed for 254 yards and a career-high 4 touchdowns on 28 carries. Pat White only carried the ball once in the entire game, but that one carry was a 79 yard touchdown run to open up the 3rd quarter. Jason Gwanltney carried the ball 6 times for 53 yards as well. Owen Schmitt even added 18 yards rushing today. In all, West Virginia amassed 535 yards of total offense on the day.

The defense had trouble containing the ECU rushing attack. ECU rushed for 211 yards in the game and gave the Mountaineer defense fits all day long. ECU amassed 407 yards of total offense, as Jeff Casteel's 3-3-5 defense was vulnerable against the run all game. However, the Mountaineers also forced 5 ECU turnovers as well. They picked off ECU's quarterbackk 3 times and also forced 5 fumbles, 2 of which were recovered by WVU. The defense only allowed 21 points since one of ECU's touchdowns was off a 69 yard funble return early in the 4th quarter that made it 34-28. Linebacker Jeff Noechel led WVU in tackles, with 9 tackles in the game, including 2 tackles for loss.

The Mountaineers looked vulnerable today, even though their vaunted offense still put up 44 points. Still, the offense has what it takes to beat anybody, so the Virginia Tech game next week in Morgantown should be a good one.

West Virginia improves to 4-0 (1-0) with the win.

                  It's Hokie Time...
Hokies Dominate Mountaineers, Win Black Diamond Trophy

                  #14
                  38 -- (4-1)
                  NR 24 -- (4-1)

Morgantown, WV - The Mountaineers had the crowd on their side, but it didn't matter as the Hokies dominated the Mountaineers, as they won 38-24. The Hokies were ranked 14th in the country with a 3-1 record whereas the Mountaineers were not ranked, but undefeated with a 4-0 mark.

West Virginia did not get into positive offensive yardage until the middle of the 2nd quarter. By then, the Hokies posted a 24-0 lead and the game was well in hand. In fact, after 1 quarter of play, the Mountaineers posted -9 yards of total offense, not exactly what you would expect from the 2nd ranked offense statistically in the country.

The Mountaineers made a furious comback attempt in the 2nd half, eventually tying the game at 24. However, on the ensuing kickoff, Hokies wide receiver Eddie Royal ran back the kickoff for a touchdown to make it 31-24. Then Adam Bendarik would proceed to throw an interception. The Hokies capitalized off the pick to make it 38-24 with 3 minutes left and went to cruise off for the victory in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers received a reality check in this game. Many fans were furious about being undefeated, yet not being ranked, but either they were wrong, or Virginia Tech is the best team in the country, though it is most likely the former that is the truth.

In other news, West Virginia Athletic Director Ed Pastilong met with Virginia Tech's Athletic Director earlier this week to work out another series between the teams. There were currently no games scheduled past this year between these 2 rivals, but it appears they were able to work out a home-and-home series that will last until 2016. Fans of both sides are happy about this I am sure.

With the sinking loss, the Mountaineers spiral to 4-1 (1-0), but are still undefeated in conference play. And don't give up, because the real life Mountaineers lost to Virginia Tech too, but still went on to win the Big East and the Sugar Bowl.

                  Code:
                                 1st 2nd 3rd 4th OT Final
                  Virginia Tech 7 17 0 14 -- 38
                  West Virginia 0 7 10 7 -- 24

                        West Virginia Defeats Rutgers 31-14
Bednarik's Arm, Colson's Legs Destroy Scarlet Knights

                        31 -- (5-1)
                        14 -- (1-4)

                        Piscataway, NJ -
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights were clearly outmatched today as they were run all over by the Mountaineers of West Virginia University. Adam Bednarik's arm and Jason Colson's legs were keys to the nice victory in the Mountaineers' 2nd Big East conference game of the season. The defense did well too, as they held the Scarlet Knights to only 14 points.

Adam Bednarik rebounded from his terrible performance last week against Virginia Tech, in which he only got 91 passing yards. Today, he completed 16 of 23 passes for 266 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. "He certainly bounced back well," commented Head Coach Bill Stewart. "I was impressed with his resiliency.

Jason Colson carried the ball a career-high 35 times for a heathy yardage total of 173 yards. He also tacked on a touchdown as well. Wide receiver Brandon Myles caught 6 passes for 61 yards in the game for 2 touchdowns as well as he was a key in the Mountaineer win.

The Mountaineers were behind 14-10 heading into the 4th quarter, but once Bednarik and Colson get going, it is hard to stop them. They led the Mountaineers to 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to earn the victory.

The Spurs move to 5-1 (2-0) with the win after bouncing back from their loss against Virginia Tech last week.
