Boston Accepts Bid to Play in Insight Bowl

Phoenix, AZ - The Boston Colonials have made a bowl game for the second straight year. After beating UCLA in last year's Sun Bowl, the Colonials will travel out to the southwestern part of the United States once again as they will play in the Insight Bowl, which is held in Phoenix, Arizona.

"I don't know what it is with these bowls," said Coach Frizzell. "We keep on getting sent out across the country to play in our bowls where most of our fans cannot travel very easily. Whatever the case, we're happy to be in a bowl and are excited."

The Colonials will take on the 24th ranked California Golden Bears, who come into the bowl 9-3. California finished third in the Pac-10 with a 6-3 record in conference play. They upset Southern California in Los Angeles Coliseum, who was ranked #2 at the time, 46-14 in their next to last game, so they are very good.

Yep, too bad Paterno can't do that in real life as of late, other than the 2005 season!

Insight Bowl: Boston (7-5) vs. #24 California (9-3)

California Embarrasses Boston in Insight Bowl

PHOENIX, AZ - The first quarter was close with Boston picking off California's Nate Longshore twice as the score was knotted at seven after a quarter of play, but the rest of the game was a cakewalk for California as the Golden Bears easilyeasily crushed the Boston Colonials 49-17.

Boston's pass defense was ugly as they allowed Nate Longshore to throw for 265 yards and four touchdowns.

Coach Frizzell said, "Our defense was very unprepared for Cal's surprising attack on offense. They really have some talented players on their team and it was too much for us to handle as the final score tells."

Boston could not muster a run game as they ran the ball 29 times for only 30 yards. The offensive line could not block at all, allowing California defenders to come crashing in for 13 tackles for losses on only 29 rushes.

Boston finishes the season 7-6 (4-3). The season was a success as many thought Boston would not make a bowl game, but it still would have been nice to not have been blown out by California like this.

                    Yeah, Cal's offense was unstoppable.

We might really have a chance to compete for a Big East Title next year as our recruiting class is going well so far and our defense should be better next year. We'll be breaking in a new quarterback, though, so we'll see.
