    Boston (3-3) @ Rutgers (3-2)

    Interceptions Down Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, NJ - It's tough to win when you throw five interceptions and turn the ball over five times, especially when your opponent commits zero turnovers. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights had a hard time holding onto the ball as Mike Teel threw four interceptions and Rashuan Poe, who, ironically, was a Boston quarterback a few years back before he transferred, threw another. This allowed Boston to go up 24-7 early and 41-14 midway through the third quarter as Rutgers was never able to come back from the large hole the built themselves into.

"I don't take too much pride in this game," said Coach Frizzell. "We really did not win the game so much as Rutgers lost the game. Teel and Poe were making horrible decisions out there as if they were playing a midget league game or something. They were throwing it right to our receivers. There was no reason that we shouldn't have won thsi one with how bad the Scarlet Knights were playing."

Boston got two interceptions from Greg Walker, one from Jeff Smith, one from Clay Parks, and another by Mark Moore. The interceptions set up the Colonials with great field position, allowing the Colonials to score easily. Rutgers actually outgained Boston 441-324, but the five turnovers were the key in this one.

Boston Dominates in 35 Point Blowout

BOSTON, MA - With several recruits visiting, the Boston Colonials put on quite a show for the fans, recruits, and the players themselves. Boston put on a clinic out there and held the Pittsburgh Panthers to only three points, the closest Boston has ever gotten to a shutout. Their previous record was six points against Maine last year.

Boston jumped out early to a lead and never looked back. The three points that Pittsburgh did manage to score came after Boston fumbled the football at midfield late in the first half, giving Pittsburgh a very short field leading to a 24 yard field goal for the Panthers.

The offense was very efficient for the most part. Marques Prater went 17-21 for 225 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He easily dissected the defense. Billy Sims and John Black provided a steady running game as the Colonials continued to rely on the ground game, running the ball 45 times compared to only 21 passes.

Billy Smith surpassed 1,000 yards rushing in this game. That makes him the first running back in school history to accomplish that feat.

Recruits Come Pouring in to Boston...

BOSTON, MA - Over the last few weeks, the Boston Colonials have picked up four signings from recruits. Also, halfback Rasheed Palmerhas gave Boston a soft verbal, though Ohio State could easily snag him away.

The Colonials have developed quite a recruiting pipeline, bringing recruits out of the talent-rich state of New Jersey. Three out of the four signings hail for New Jersey, while the other is from Massachusetts.

These signings should help further shore up this defense as Boston could have a good defense next year with these signings. Lonnie Witherspoon will bring his 240 pound frame in to join Clay Parks out middle linebacker in the 3-4 defensive alignment, which utilizes two middle linebackers. His 4.52 40 speed will be welcoming. Free Safety David Barnett came to Boston because of academics, and he'll certainly help after Jeff Smith graduates next year. Reggie Quinn will help replace Sergio Wilson at the defensive tackle position and looks to be a potential gem. Meanwhile, Ray Callahan, a brother of Eric Callahan, the star wide receiver at Boston over their first two years, will bring his 4.48 40 speed to play at quarterback. He could move to wide receiver or cornerback if needed since he has plenty of versatility.

Rasheed Palmer has not yet committed to Boston, but did give a soft verbal. He is a four star rated halfback and could make an impact immediatley with his 4.33 40 speed.

All in all, if Boston can bring in some solid recruits during the offseason, this has all the makings of a top 25 recruiting class.

Yep. When we get to be a four star prestige school and higher, the recruits will really start to come.

                  Bearcats Prevail With Stingy Defense

CINCINNATI, OH - Cincinnati and Boston met up as the stakes were high for both teams. Both had just one conference loss. A second conference loss would essentially put them out of contention for the Big East Title, so this was a must-win for both teams as far as their Big East Title hopes were concerned.

Boston's defense was very stingy early on, but the offense failed to capitalize in the red zone as the Colonials were only able to seize a 6-0 lead after field goals from 21 and 46 yards out by Jake Manning. The 46 yarder was a career long for Manning. Cincinnati countered with a touchdown pass to go up 7-6 midway through the second quarter. With 1:16 left in the first half, Jake Manning attempted a 45 yard field goal that would have put the Colonials up 9-7, but the attempt hit the cross bars and landed just in front of the goal posts. Instead, Cincinnati drove down the field to get a touchdown to go up 14-6. However, Boston struck back with a quick drive, setting up Jake Manning for a 31 yard field goal to make it 14-9.

After going 8-18 for 93 yards and one interception, Marques Prater was pulled in favor of Matt Mayfield. Coach Frizzell has done this before with Prater as some days he is just plain off. This was one of those unfortunate days.

Matt Mayfield filled in briliantly, going 10-13 for 134 yards and a touchdown. The Colonials were held scoreless in the third quarter while allowing Cincinnati to score a touchdown, but struck early in the final quarter with a 13 yard touchdown pass to pull back within five as the score stood at 21-16 in favor of the Bearcats.

Cincinnati would come through in the clutch, however, stopping Boston at midfield with four minutes left. That was followed by a 22 yard Dustin Grutza touchdown pass to give the Bearcats a 28-16 lead. Boston got the ball back, but could do nothing with it as the Colonials fell by 12 points to fall to 5-4 (3-2).

"We gave a good effort out there against one of the better teams in the Big East," Coach Frizzell explained. "Nippert Stadium was packed and we did well in the hostile environment. Unfortunately, we just couldn't do enough on offense to win. I must commend the defense for their great play, however."

                        Boston Wins Shootout

TAMPA, FL - For the second straight year, these teams engaged in a shootout. Last year was a rather exciting game, with Boston pulling out with a 42-35 thriller on Senior Day. This time, the game would not be as close with Boston leading most of the game, but it would still be a shootout.

Boston scored 31 points in the first half alone and added another three touchdowns in the second half to score 52 points in their 52-35 win over the South Florida Bulls.

The Bulls featured one of the worst offenses in the country, ranked 114th nationally, so it was no surprise that Boston took advantage and racked up 563 yards of total offense. South Florida was not shabby either with 397 yards of their own.

USF's John Macklin, a senior, had a field day against Boston, throwing for 178 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, but also making crucial plays and keeping drives alive with this feet as he racked up 71 yards rushing and a touchdown on only 10 carries.

"[Macklin] has always caused us trouble," remarked Coach Frizzell. "He was especially troublesome in the first half, but we put a spy on him in the second half which slowed down his scrambling some, but he was still dangerous."

Boston was dangerous on offense with Marques Prater throwing for 419 yards and five touchdowns. He did throw three interceptions, however. Jake Mitchell and Jeff Miller were dangerous catching the football as Mitchell ended with 189 yards receiving and four touchdowns while Miller ended with 114 yards and a touchdown. Billy Sims also had a great day as he ran 29 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Now bowl eligible, Boston improves to 6-4 (4-2) and will take on the Notre Dame in Sound Bend, Indiana next week looking for their seventh win of the season.

Boston Wins Snowy Matchup in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, IN - For the second straight year, Boston traveled to Sound Bend, Indiana to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Last year's game was a 59-14 blowout by Notre Dame as Boston turnover the ball over nine times. This year's game would be different.

Both teams struggled on offense and on defense as the game was very sloppy and muddy due to a moderate snow fall descending onto the field. The grounds crew did their best, but could not keep the snow from piling up and when the did clear the snow, a muddy mess was left, which was worse than walking on the snow itself.

Both teams struggled in all facets of the game as neither team could make tackles, play defense, or execute their offenses effectively. Boston managed to rack up 402 yards of total offense, but most of that was because of poor tackling and defenders slipping due to the snow. Notre Dame tallied 302 yards of total offense.

Notre Dame scored 10 points in the first quarter to go up 10-0 early on. It looked as if we may have a repeat performance of last year after Marques Prater was picked off inside Notre Dame's 40 yard line, giving Notre Dame a chance to make the lead even bigger. They failed to do so, however, and Boston got momentum from there on out, cruising on to score 10 points before halftime to knot the score at 10 and dominating during the second half to win the game 27-10.

"We did a phenomenal job on defense after the first quarter," said Coach Frizzell. "I was quite worried after we fell down 10-0, but we recovered extremely well. It is impressive to hold Notre Dame scoreless for a full three quarters in Sound Bend. This may not be the old Notre Dame that competed for championships year after year, but they still pack quite a punch."

Boston will finish off the regular season next week at home against Louisville on Senior Day. The Colonials upset Louisville last season by a score of 31-10 in Louisville and will look to derail the Cardinals' hopes of a National Championship this year in Boston.

                                When It Rains, It Pours

BOSTON, MA - Louisville was on upset alert coming into Boston to face a Boston team which had won five out of it's last six games. Boston just came off a game in South Bend in which they beat Notre Dame by 17 in the snow. Louisville has been no slouch, either, as they entered the game ranked 5th in the country and undefeated. They dominated Connecticut 44-14 last week.

The game started with Boston getting pick-sixed on their first drive. This happened three more times as Boston was smacked around in a 56-13 blowout. Louisville was actually out-gained 322-305, but this was due to their pick-sixes and the fact that they got the ball inside Boston's 50 yard line so much.

The highlight of the game for Boston was a 51 yard field goal for Jake Manning with 4:20 left in the third quarter. This was a new career long for the junior kicker. The field goal made it 42-10. That's how bad this game was.

"This was a complete and utter embarrassment; no ifs, ands, or buts about it," said Coach Frizzell.

Boston finishes off the regular season 7-5 (4-3) and will look to see which bowl they will end up in in December.
