The box scores were just starting to get stale so I changed it up a bit,as far as the large type in the weekly recap,I did that by accident and by the time I noticed it it was too late.

      Boston's Tannehill Outduels Waddell

Tuesday, May 8th, 1906: Boston's Tannehill Outduels Waddell
With the home crowd in a frenzy behind him,Boston Americans star pitcher Jesse Tannehill(4-2) was in dominating form,as he allowed just 5 hits and 2 earned runs while fanning 6 in Boston's 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Athletics. The A's who for the second straight game could get nothing going offensively, pinned all of their hopes on starter Rube Waddell(4-1) who unfortunately could not come through lasting only 7 innings while allowing 6 hits,4 walks and 4 earned runs in his first loss of the season.Americans first baseman Lou Criger was the difference maker offensively, going 2 for 3 with a huge 2 run double in the 3rd that would turn out to be the game winning hit.

Tuesday, May 8th, 1906: Beaneaters Go "Batty" In 9-1 Win Over Phils
Led by shortstop Ed "Batty" Abbaticchio, the Boston Beaneaters were all over the Philadelphia Phillies today, striking early and often as they rolled to an easy 9-1 victory.Abbaticchio was a thorn in the Phillies side all day, going 2 for 5 with a double,a stolen base,an RBI and 3 runs scored to lead the offensive charge while starting pitcher Vic Willis(4-1) was busy shutting down the Phils O allowing only 5 hits and 1 earned run in the complete game victory. For Philadelphia, their lone bright spot in an otherwise forgettable day was left fielder Sherry Magee who went 3 for 4 with a triple,an RBI and a stolen base for the losers.

A's Lose To Tigers 5-3 For 3rd Straight Defeat
Columbia Park,Phila,Pa.-The Philadelphia Athletics welcomed the injury plagued Detroit Tigers to town today for the start of a 4 game series between teams headed in totally opposite directions, the A's despite the loss of their last two games, find themselves with a record of 17-11,good enough for first place in the highly competitive American League, while the Tigers on the other hand, who have been playing without Ty Cobb and Sam McDowell, the teams 2 best players, have struggled all season and now find themselves mired in last place with a record of 10-17,and with Cobb and McDowell not scheduled to return for another month or so,things will not be getting better any time soon.In today's game, the Athletics struggled most of the day to find their groove and despite a fine pitching performance by Jack Coombs(3-3),they found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-3 decision.Detroit starting pitcher Kaiser Wilhelm(3-3) went the distance while allowing 7 hits and 3 runs(2 earned) while striking out 4 for his third win of the season while 2B "Liberty' Schaefer's 2 run single in the top of the 5th was the key offensive play for Detroit. Here's the box score.

Wednesday, May 16th, 1906: Keeler Gets Number 2500
New York's Willie Keeler entered the record books today as he collected hit number 2500 at Hilltop Park.

"I am proud of this. Not too many player reach this level. You have to be around quite a few years and you have to get a lot of hits," Keeler said after the game.

On his milestone day he went 3 for 4 as the Highlanders won 3-0 over the St. Louis Browns.

Lifetime Keeler is batting .358 with 216 doubles, 135 triples, 29 home runs and 728 RBIs in 1685 games.

Wednesday, May 16th, 1906: Chesbro Blanks Browns
"I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."

With stuff like that, it was easy for Jack Chesbro of the Highlanders to handcuff the Browns 3-0 and come away with a complete-game 5-hit shutout. He recorded 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in an impressive performance.

This year Chesbro has registered 4 wins and 3 losses in 8 starts with a 2.20 ERA while registering 33 strikeouts and 13 walks in 73.2 innings.

                          5 Hit Blitz By Slagle
Wednesday, May 16th, 1906: 5-Hit Blitz by Slagle
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Chicago center fielder Jimmy Slagle said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the Philadelphia Phillies at West Side Park II. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."

The Cubs had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 14-2.

                          J. Slagle singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off W. Moser in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This season Slagle has hit at a .235 clip and produced 13 RBIs, 1 home run and 16 runs scored.

Plank's Pregame Outburst Inspires A 12-1 Drubbing Of Detroit
Columbia Park,Phila,Pa.-Disgusted by his own performance as well as that of his teammates,Athletics starting pitcher Eddie Plank removed everyone except players from the room before slamming the door and letting loose on a vicious tirade in which he slammed tables, broke chairs, and yelled to the high heavens before letting loose his mates on an unsuspecting Detroit Tiger team who were absolutely destroyed 12-1.Plank(3-4),as expected led the way holding the Tigers to just 2 hits a walk and 1 run in the complete game victory while Ossee Schreckengost and Danny Murphy paced the offense. For Detroit, starting pitcher George Mullin(2-6) was absolutely bombed allowing 9 runs and 10 hits in 6 and two thirds for his 6th loss of the season. Here's the box score.

Saturday, May 19th, 1906: Beaneaters Chill Huggins's Hot Streak
It was the best of both worlds for the Boston Beaneaters today at Palace of the Fans as they defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 and also ended Miller Huggins's 20-game hitting streak. The 28-year-old Cincinnati second baseman failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Miller, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Beaneaters skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Huggins frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."

In 1906, Huggins is hitting .278 with no home runs and 2 RBIs in 32 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .351 with 15 walks and 17 runs scored.

Who needs batting practice? Roy Thomas of Philadelphia apparently doesn't as he battered Chicago with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 3-0 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 5 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

                                R. Thomas singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

This season Thomas has no home runs and a .272 batting average.

Saturday, May 19th, 1906: Duggleby Tames Cubs
Bill Duggleby was in command in his outing against the Chicago Cubs. He hurled the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 shutout victory, yielded 3 hits and chalked up 1 strikeout and 2 walks.

"A complete-game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

In 8 starts this season Duggleby has crafted a 2-4 record with a 3.02 ERA.
