This game ended up being a great pitching duel between Millwood and Wood. Wood was sensational pitching a near flawless 7 innings striking out 14 and giving up 5 hits. However, 2 hits were solo homers by Todd Pratt and Abreu, which helped the Phillies win this close game. Millwood was the Player of the Game pitching 7 scoreless innings and fanning 5 for his 7th win of the year...

Game 2 of the series was another fantastic pitching duel between Randy Wolf and Ted Lilly. Over 7 innings, the game was scoreless. However, in the 8th, a pair of back to back singles by Abreu and Burrell off of John Halama set up a 2 run double by Thome. Mesa earned his 16th save of the year as the Phillies take 2 in a row from the A's. Randy Wolf was the ESPN Player of the Game pitching 8 shut-out innings striking out 7 and walking none while only giving up 4 hits...

Oakland managed to finally get its offense back into gear with a big win over the Phillies. Miguel Tejada led the way going 4 for 5 with a homer and 2 RBI's to earn Player of the Game honors. The A's lineup in general was awesome as almost every batter had a hit. Terrence Long also increased his league best hitting streak to 33 games, longest in the Majors this year so far and the A's now have a day off before heading back home to face off against the Braves...Comment

Thanks - I did make a lot of moves because I wanted to build the team I wanted all alolng - a young team with great pitching and some power, speed, and high on base percentages. I also wanted to lower my payroll because hey, I am not the Yankees and my budget is quite low...I love building this team and unless I see something, I am standing pat with this team...Comment

Hudson out-duelled Mike Hampton pitching 7 shut-out innings allowing only 4 hits while striking out 4 for his 8th win of the season. Frankie Rodriguez came into the 9th and earned his 9th save in 9 opportunities this season. Hudson was named player of the game for his strong performance...

The Braves take 2 of 3 in Oakland after breaking a tie in the 8th inning with a solo home run by Juan Gonzalez off of Ricardo Rincon...Josh Dawley earned his 1st win of the season in relief of Greg Maddux while Ricardo Rincon took his 1st loss of the year. Kerry Wood pitched 7 solid innings giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 7.....The A's also lost Miguel Tejada for 9 days with a pulled quadriceps muscle. Tejada will not go on the DL and will remain on the active roster. German will fill in for Tejada and it will be interesting to see how the A's will fare with Tejada out. In 65 games, Tejada was hitting .320 with 20 HR and 63 RBI's so he will be missed in the A's potent lineup...Comment

ESPN reports that a blockbuster trade between the Astros and Twins. The Twins have traded JC Romero, Mike Ryan, and Michael Restovich to the Astros for Jeff Bagwell and Shane Reynolds. The Twins, 1st place in the AL Central, have bolstered their line-up and added some power with the addition to Bagwell in their efforts to win the World Series this year.
