    Update

    Straight From the Coach
"Not a bad game. Now we've got a bowl game probably. We've got to practice, because we don't want to look like fools when we get there.

      HOUSTON BOWL - Houston, TX
UL Monroe (7-6) vs Houston (9-3)

How would the Houston defense perform? How would QB Aaron Anderson perform? A bowl win would be huge for this team. The coach didn't know what to expect. Houston would receive the ball first and their offense quickly went to work. In a drive that ended with Daniel Rojas banging his way into the endzone, the Cougars showed everyone why they were in a bowl game. 7-0 Houston's lead. Anderson off to a beautiful start. 3 and out by the Houston defense. After one quarter, it was 7-0. ULM tied it early in the second quarter. Anderson's second interception made it 14-7. Unbe-freaking-lievable. ULM tried a long pass but Jeremy Duncan made them pay with an INT. Anderson repaid the favor. With 3 minutes left, Webster intercepted ULM and returned it all the way to the 20 yard line. Cougars miss the field goal, what else is new? The punt from ULM gave Houston the ball at midfield. With 23 seconds left in the half, Daniel Rojas (FB) punched it in the endzone to tie it back up at 14.

      HALFTIME: 14-14

*Note: John Thorburn - 56 yards rushing in 1st half
*Note: TE Chance Brown breaks NCAA Record for receptions! More later...

      SECOND HALF:
ULM got the ball first. Two straight sacks by LB Jason Mullins forced a punt. ULM drove deep but Lane got an interception in the endzone. With 1 minute left in the third, Aaron Anderson hit Jermelle Smalley for a nine yard touchdown as Houston reclaimed the lead 21-14. The Houston defense came up with a 3 and out led by Jason Mullin's 3rd sack. Midway through the 4th, Daniel Rojas busted it up the gut for his third touchdown of the game. This gave Houston a comfortable 28-14 lead. The defense, however, did not let up on ULM. Jake Weese intercepted it and brought it to the 27 yard line. A failed 4th down conversion gave ULM the ball with just inside 2 minutes to play. With just over a minute, ULM made it 28-21 on a big pass play. With just under a minute, ULM got it at the 9. They had 52 seconds to go 91 yards. The Houston defense held strong.

      FINAL: Houston wins 28-21!!
Greatest Games Score: 585 (Not bad)

      PLAYER of the GAME
With 7 tackles and 5 sacks, LB Jason Mullins is your player of the game. An outstanding defensive performance from this young Freshmen All American.

      SURPRISE of the GAME
The entire Houston Cougars team did a good job the majority of the game staying focused and not letting the bowl game hype get to them. LB Jason Mullins led a scary defensive unit.

      Mentionable Performances
TE Chance Brown - 13 rec, 107 yards, 0 TD

*NOTE: Chance Brown broke the NCAA record for most receptions in a season. He totaled 148 for the season.

      Straight From the Coach
"What a great way to wrap up the season! Chance Brown breaks a record. Jason Mullins is insane on defense and he's still a freshman. And oh yeah-- we won a bowl game! The Houston Bowl no less. Beautiful. Now it's time to talk to the players who think they want to leave and then get some new faces in here."

            Extended!
Once the season was over, the head coach was approached with a 3 year contract extension. He accepted the offer!

Easton, I'm not necessarily turned around just yet. My schedule isn't too tough and I'm confident that with that season I'll be able to recruit some people who can make an immediate contribution.

I'm just happy I won a bowl and got a contract extension!
