Re: Denver A.M.
When 2017 draft day arrived, Rutgers middle linebacker Jeremiah McCay was firmly atop the Denver Broncos' draft board. They believed in his potential as their defensive signal-caller for years to come, and they were undeterred by the New Orleans Saints' selection of McCay with the 45th overall pick. After negotiating for several days, the teams have finally struck a deal that brings McCay to Denver. In exchange for McCay, the Saints are getting the Broncos' 2018 2nd and 5th round picks and middle linebacker Jerrell Freeman. Freeman joins an ILB corps that also includes Paul Posluszny, Rey Maualuga and Erin Henderson and should be more at home in the Saints' 3-4 defense. At Rutgers, McCay played in a 4-3 scheme.
The Broncos are now down to three picks in the 2018 draft- rounds 1, 3 and 4.Comment

Re: Denver A.M.
Lawrence Timmons' wait for a new club is finally over, thanks to the Broncos.
Denver Broncos GM John Elway wasted no time in investing the cap space freed up by the shipping of Jerrell Freeman to New Orleans, signing former Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a one year deal. It may seem like an odd transaction to some, coming as it does on the heels of Denver's sending two picks along with Freeman to the Saints for rookie middle linebacker Jeremiah McCay. "We thought it was criminal that he was still out there without a place to play. We just couldn't do anything about it until now. Getting Jeremiah and Lawrence is a win-win for us. We're very high on Jeremiah, but he's yet to play a down in the NFL. In the long run he'll be a better player for having had Lawrence as a teammate." Elway added that it's not a given that McCay will be relegated to being Timmons' understudy. "We have yet to see how Lawrence makes the transition to a 4-3 after spending his pro career in a 3-4. And we'll find ways for Jeremiah to see plenty of the field."
The acquisition of Timmons means Arian Foster will remain a free agent for the time being.Comment

Re: Denver A.M.
It will be at least 2018 before Denver Broncos franchise quarterback Zac Piper makes an opening day start. A broken toe in the final game of the 2016 preseason delayed his NFL debut until Week 6. In this year’s exhibition “dress rehearsal” game, 41-23 win over the visiting San Francisco 49ers, Piper suffered a dislocated ankle with soft tissue damage in scrambling 3 yards for a first down. For the second time in as many years, it will be October before Piper sees the field in the regular season. With Tyler Bray already sidelined, the Broncos are down to one healthy quarterback, and an emergency acquisition is anticipated. Denver also lost rookie running back Andre Wallace to a back injury, and he is expected to miss the first 4 weeks of real football. Wallace was having his best game of the preseason, averaging 5.2 yards per carry at the time of his injury.

Re: Denver A.M.
With Zac Piper and Tyler Bray both unavailable for the preseason finale against the Jaguars, the Denver Broncos were in need of another quarterback, if only on a short-term basis. The emergency signing is former University of Arizona star Matt Scott. Scott was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 draft. He was cut from the active roster in August and signed to the practice squad, but was back on the active roster at the end of the year. In May of 2014 he was waived by the Jags and picked up off the wire by Cincinnati. He has zero regular season experience and is most famous for puking twice before throwing a touchdown pass in a 2014 preseason game- meaning he was available at a bargain-basement price. Despite his newness to the team, he is expected to see significant playing time against Jacksonville in order to minimize the injury risk to opening day starter Jake Locker.
In other roster moves, the Broncos released LT Bradley Sowell and DT Denard Longino, and signed rookie left tackle Herve Gray. Gray was the Bills' 5th round pick in this year's draft, but was included in their latest round of cuts.
