True on both counts. I do like how it worked out how both we and the Raiders were 9-4 when the second game was played.Comment

Re: Denver A.M.
With one week left in the regular season, the Denver Broncos still lead the Oakland Raiders by a game in the AFC West, but the visiting Kansas City Chiefs did not make it easy for them. For the second time this season, Denver spotted KC a 17-7 lead before coming out on top. In Zac Piper’s Week 6 debut, the Broncos scored 24 consecutive points on the way to a 31-24 win. This time the game remained in doubt until the Chiefs’ failed onside kick attempt in the final minute.
The game began with touchdowns in the first three series, which put the Chief up 14-7. In between Delone Carter’s 1 yard run and Nick Foles’ 6 yard pass to Marcedes Lewis, Denver fullback Lex Hilliard scored on a 34 yard catch and run. But with the Broncos driving to answer Kansas City’s second touchdown, Piper was picked off by Brandon Flowers. Denver’s defense negated the turnover by forcing a three and out, but the next possession ended with Piper intercepted in the end zone by Kendrick Lewis. This time, the Chiefs did convert the takeaway, getting a 31 yard field goal by Ryan Succop with 4:49 remaining in the half. The Broncos answered with a 49-yarder by Matt Prater with 13 seconds to spare, cutting the deficit to 17-10 at the intermission.
Piper capped the first drive of the second half with a 17 yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery, and KC followed with a three and out that included a sack by Taylor Mays. After the punt the Broncos were at the Chiefs’ 45, and they found the end zone in just 3 plays. Montee Ball ran for 9 yards, Hilliard converted the second and 1, then Piper lofted a rainbow to Virgil Green in the back corner of the end zone for a 24-17 lead. The Chiefs responded in the next series, scoring on a 14 yard pass from Foles to Robert Meachem, sending the game into its final frame in a 24-24 tie.
The fourth quarter was less than a minute old when Ball scored his second touchdown of the game and his 16th of the season from 3 yards out. It was a stalemate much of the rest of the way, until Prater drilled an easy 27 yard kick two plays after the two minute warning to give the Broncos some cushion. It was cushion they would need, as the Chiefs then drove to Foles’ 3 yard toss to Lewis with the clock down to 33 seconds. With KC down to one time out, it was do or die on the onside kickoff attempt, and die it was.

1 weekGame Notes Winning streaks of 6 (Jacksonville) and 7 (Denver) games collide as the Jags pay a visit for the final game of the regular season. The Jaguars have been waiting for this game for almost a year, ever since the Broncos eliminated them from the 2015 playoffs. Five of Jacksonville's last wins have been by double digits, while the Broncos were victorious by 4 points or less in five of those seven games, and got taken into overtime in another one- and this game could be more of a mismatch than many might think.

Re: Denver A.M.
Against the stubborn Jacksonville defense, the league’s highest-scoring team could put up only 17 points, including a mere field goal in the second half. Zac Piper looked more rookie than budding superstar, going 21-of-41 for 253 yards with no touchdowns and a pick, while the Jaguars’ Russell Wilson completed 25 of his 29 attempts for 280 yards and a pair of TD’s without being picked off. Despite the disparity in QB performance, the Broncos took a 17-14 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Jags posted the game’s final 10 points to leave Denver with a 24-17 victory, a 12-4 record and a first round bye in the playoffs. A 12-4 record and a bye would have belonged to the Broncos had they managed to hold their lead until the end. Instead, what was just the second career loss for Piper dropped the Broncos to 11-5 and put them in an AFC West first place tie with the Oakland Raiders, who trounced Tennessee 28-3. But with a division of record of 5-1, Denver won the tiebreaker for its sixth consecutive title, setting up a wild card duel with the Raiders in Denver next week. No other team has won the AFC West in this decade.
A 32 yard reception by Mohamed Sanu in the opening series put the Broncos in a first and goal at the 2 and Montee Ball punched it in from there on the following play. The score remained 7-0 into the second quarter, when Wilson’s 4 yard toss to Rakayle Shaafat evened things up at the 8:57 mark. Denver answered with what eventually proved to be its only other touchdown of the game- another Ball run, this one from 8 yards out. Wilson then dirtected his hurry-up offense to Justin Blackmon’s 1 yard TD catch, sending the teams to their locker rooms with the score tied at 14.
The Jaguars opened the second half by reaching the Denver 49 before punting, after which the Broncos drove to Matt Prater’s 47 yard field goal. They didn’t know it at the time, but the Broncos were done scoring. With Prater’s kick being the only score of the third quarter, the Jaguars would have been going for a tying field goal had the Broncos not been assessed a facemask penalty that put Jacksonville in a first and goal at the 6. Instead of a field goal, the Jags got a go-ahead touchdown run by Bryce Brown on the next play, with 11:54 left in the game. With Piper getting sacked on first down, the Broncos followed Brown’s touchdown with a three and out. After a Jacksonville punt, the Broncos marched into Jaguar territory, but a sack and a strip by Taz Trodder gave the Jags the ball at their 33 with 4:37 to go. At the 2 minute warning they were at the Denver 25, but then a holding call led to a 4th and 16 and with a 47 yard kick, Josh Brown gave them a touchdown lead with 1:37 to play. Exavier Shade enhanced Denver’s chance of forcing overtime by returning the kickoff to the 41, but after three consecutive incomplete passes, the Broncos were in a 4th and 10 at the Jacksonville 42. Piper’s pass to Alshon Jeffery converted, but on the next play Paul Posluszny got a pick-six off a tip by Kameel Cofield. The touchdown was erased, however, because the Jags had been offside on the play. Thus spared, the Broncos got within striking distance, but with 8 seconds to go Brandon Browner sealed the win for Jacksonville with an end zone interception.
