      Game Notes
Like the Broncos, the Texans are a team recovering from a bad first part of the season. 1-4 after week 5, Houston put together a 5 game winning streak that ended last week with an upset by the Cardinals. That loss could be attributed to a banged-up o-line and the absence of Brian Cushing from the defense, but QB Lance Swartz's injury may be a blessing in disguise. Odds are Denver takes this one, but the Broncos have shown a penchant for unpredictability.

          Broncos SCarr Texans, 38-21

Preying on an injury-riddled offensive line and an inexperienced quarterback for 10 sacks by 8 different players, the Denver Broncos gave Houston Texans fans flashbacks to the David Carr days in a 38-21 victory at Reliant Stadium. And it wasn’t just the Denver defense which brought its A game- Zac Piper completed 20 of his 24 pass attempts for 221 yards and a touchdown and Montee Ball gashed the Texans for 154 yards and 2 scores. The Broncos took a 17-0 lead before the Texans found the end zone in the second quarter.

In the game’s opening series, a 15 yard catch by Alshon Jeffery gave Denver a first and goal at the 2, and Montee Ball punched it in from there. Sacks by Martez Wilson Quanterus Smith on second and third down dealt the Texans a three and out and after a punt out of the end zone the Broncos were sitting pretty at the Houston 42. After finding Jeffery for a gain of 22, Piper scrambled to the 11. Lex Hilliard converted the second and 1, but a holding call erased the first down. Piper then tucked and ran for another one, but lost a fumble on the play. On third and 8 from the 7 second string Houston quarterback Nic Richert hit Dez Bryant for 18 yards, but then threw a 37 yard pick-six to Aqib Talib on the next play. Another Houston three and out, with sacks on first and third down by Boris Toodle and Taylor Mays, helped the Broncos make it 17-0 on a 51 yard Matt Prater field goal. The Texans finally got on the board after digging out of a third and long caused by a Danny Trevathan sack. A 35 yard reception by DeAndre Hopkins put Houston in a first and goal at the 2, and Arian Foster scored on 2nd down after an incomplete pass. Denver answered with another touchdown, with Piper hitting Virgil Green for a 14 yard touchdown after getting sacked on first and goal. Bryant then went 58 yards after the catch for another Houston touchdown, but the Broncos responded by driving to Ball’s second touchdown run for a 31-14 halftime lead.

Each team only scored once in the second half, with Foster’s 2 yard third quarter run cutting Denver’s lead to 31-21, and with the game’s final points coming with Brayden Lawson scoring from 2 yards out with 12:08 to go after Ball set up the score with a 36 yard dash. In the final minute of the game Piper took a knee for a “turnover on downs” at the Houston 5. On the next play Talib had the opportunity for another pick-six, but instead of running into the end zone he chose not to rub salt into the wound and intentionally stepped out of bounds at the 20.

LMAO. I suppose you could say that it being against a team with a winning record is cause for a minor celebration.

On one hand I really hated seeing all of those guys go but on the other it's been fun working on such a complete overhaul.

AD On The Open Market In 2017?

Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings have terminated contract negotiations, with Peterson's agent saying the parties are "still miles apart". Despite AD currently being second in the league in rushing, Minnesota is reluctant to invest a very significant portion of its payroll in a player who will turn 32 during the offseason and who has the mileage that he has accumulated.
