    Top 5 Showdown

Tripucka Plays whole game at QB

This is a big one a top 5 matchup vs Nebraska at their place which is the team that beat us in the playoffs. Napier decided to go with Armon Tripucka the field general QB who we got in the portal. We start off on fire as Niswander scores on a short TD. Then Armon and the speedy Godchaux added TD's and we are rolling them 21 to 3 at halftime. The cornhuskers defense stepped up in the 2nd half and we didn't score at all. The road noise got to our freshman Kicker in the 2nd half as he missed two. We also didn't convert a 4th and short. They would add 15 points and would get the ball with a chance to win the game late. A blitz from LB Tommy Gage gets the sack and we win a defense battle 21 to 18.

This wasn't a game with flashy stat, but FB Niswander did go over 100 yards with a TD and Godchaux had 96. The big news could be Armon Tripucka started and played all game at QB and played pretty well since it was a top 5 team on the road. He had 140 passing yards plus a rushing TD. The defense was the story here holding them to 18 points despite just 1 turnover

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

      Tripucka Now QB1 Despite Turnovers

      Worst Half In A Decade

We will be recapping two games here both two of the worse in the ACC Duke and NC State. We don't like winning high scoring games, but we had to again here as the defense gives up 517 yards of offense and 43 points. The Duke QB had a monster game 369 yards and 4 TD. We said in preseason the DB's were the question mark that is coming true. Thankfully big days by QB Tripucka, FB Niswander, WR Atwell also had 500+ of offense and 50 points.

The next game was the opposite on the road vs Pitt which didn't bother us at the time. We had already beat a top 5 team on the road and Pitt had just 1 win. This was the worst half of football we have played including the first year as Army when our team was one of the worst in the country. We barely had positive yards at halftime. Niswander got hurt and the big thing was the crowd and turnovers. Niswander broke up a long TD run to finally get us on the board. A key play in crunch time finding converted TE Pitts would lead to a QB TD run and we somehow escaped 21-10. We end up with 398 yards off offense, but that first half with turnovers was brutal. A huge tip of the cap to our defense who came to play today.

      5 Game ball vs Duke
QB Tripucka = 15/17, 203 passing yards, 35 rushing yards, 4 total TD, 0 Int
FB Niswander = 18 carries for 155 yards, 3 TD
WR Atwell = 7 catches for 122 yards, 2 TD
      C Markus Gastineau = 20 pancake blocks
SS Tyler Baskerville = 13 tackles

      5 Game balls vs Pitt
FB Niswander =15 carries for 160 yards, 1 TD
DE Enrique Andries = 8 tackles, 6 TFL, 3 sacks
DE Dillon Butts = 5 tackles, 4 TFL, 1.5 sacks
DT Abdul Kenyon = 3 tackles, 3 TFL, 1.5 sacks
LB Tommy Gage = 11 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 Int

      --------------------------

Napier has announced the starting QB and its the field general sophomore Armon Tripucka. Which means Barry Cano the first ever 4* QB we signed has got beat out and will likely transfer. Things were looking amazing for Armon after making no mistakes on the road vs Nebraska in the big win. Then a monster day vs Duke with 200 passing yards and 4 TD. Things went south vs Pitt where he had 3 1st half interceptions. He did show some fight with 2 TD's in the 2nd half and leading the comeback. He is sitting at 749 passing yards, 59% 6 TD, 5 Interceptions on the year passing then an extra 135 rush yards and 6 TD. His big arm has helped the passing game and taking shoots downfield. Also WR Nathan Atwell could be our first ever 1,000-yard receiver. Armon is on track to double Cory Flood's passing yards from last year.

One of the big reasons he was named starter was his progression and he has already went up a notch in both IQ and accuracy season the season started. Since he develops quickly we project another step up in one of those same two areas in about 2 weeks. This would put him near maxed out and the speed categories can be where he improves this offseason. He is now at 84 speed, 80 acceleration and 88 agility an if that can improve this offseason then watch out.

        Heartbreak In Recruiting

A hard lesson was learned this year by Napier as he tried to compete in recruiting with the big dogs before having the resources of the other elites. We laid out five must sign guys and we only signed one of them and it was the 5th person on the list. What makes it painful is despite not having the resources we finished 2nd on the other four. So with just a hair of more luck we sign a few more.

Jalen Purvis the #1 MLB made his commitment to Oregon early on and 1 week before he was scheduled to visit us. Jalen wasn’t really a need and we have plenty of bodies at LB this one is ok. The other 3 all hurt a lot and would have been the super elite talent we haven’t had in the PowerBine offense

Cam Wilcox is a guy that hurts as he is in the deep HB class he was #26 and just 277th overall. We Found him in the preseason and was all over him from day 1. It was just bad luck as what he wanted we didn’t do good in. Which meant we couldn’t hard sell him on anything. We narrowly got beat out by Colorado who is in the top 10. We have found 3 other power HB gem’s, it they are 3* and he was a 4*

WR Jason Browee the physical with 97 speed and 93 acceleration and we thought the coast was clear after we beat out Clemson his only offer when we found him. Then Penn State comes in about week 5 and got commit even though they have 11 WR’s on the roster. One thing that hurt us is our athletic facilities are D+ and that’s one of his top 3

This one hurts the most vertical TE Jamichael Maginn who would have been an interesting and potentially game changer with our offense. His 88 speed, 84 catch, 89 acceleration at 6’5. We just knew we had him then out from nowhere in about 2 weeks bama offers and gets the commit after he had visited us. Bama only has two TE’s on the roster so he does have playing time. It’s to late in the year to find a TE like him.

We only have five commits at the time and all four * and the class is currently only ranked 78th. The only other 4* we are going after this time is a OT Cole Candidate with his 93 strength. We are after some 3* we like and some new ones we haven’t scouted. But this isn’t going to be the year we finish in the top 10 in recruiting and bring in elite talent

KSU 8-2 Heading Into Key Game

KSU is following a similar story to the last few years win a bunch of game early then drop 2 in the middle of the season. It was a 24-10 win over NC State then two losses to ranked Miami and Smoky Mountains. The ship is back to smooth sailings with two blow out wins 44 to 14 over FSU and 56-21 over Georgia Tech. We aren't going to take time to go over the specifics of the games.

This sets up the 3rd top 10 matchup this year vs Clemson and the winner gets the ACC South and will go up against a unranked team in the title game. The ACC isn't even with 4 teams ranked in the south and none in the north. This game and the next vs 5 win Wake Forest are on the road. A loss here for KSU means they easily could miss the playoffs and a win means they likely get a 1st round bye.

One main reason for the success is B back Senior Shamir Niswander who became the first ever play to be in the top 5 of the Heisman. He has fell out of the race after some just ok games and the two losses. He still is leading for the HB of the year something Demarcus Clare didn't do. Shamir also will probably break the records by Clare last year and is currently at 1,202 yards (record 1,596), 17 TD (record 21) and 6.8 avg. Armon Tripucka has played good not great as the starting QB. He has already at 1,515 yards with 11 passing TD, 8 Interceptions then a extra 12 rushing TD's. Despite more interceptions than you want he is making plays downhill and progressing very well. Enrique Andries the sophomore was in the running for major awards with his 8 sacks before getting hurt and missing the 2nd half of the year. The DL has played amazing Dillon Butts 8.5 sacks and true freshman Amari Pettis 6 with both rush DT's at 5. We have 9 differnt people with a interception.

            2033 Recruiting Update #3

We talked about the heartbreak last update so now lets try and focus on the positive. Despite losing out on 4 of our top 5 targets we spent a lot of time on. We are only ranked 80th overall with four 4* and one 3*. We do expect that number to go up once we got a lot of three * commits. We do like the class we have its just not going to have the elite 5* type players we had hoped for

            DT Philip Enunwa
The highest ranked player we will sign at 77th overall. We have a lot of DT bodies, but none of them are special. Philip is a power rusher with 91 strength, 81 tackle and 78 acceleration. If Swearinger comes back to school he will redshirt. He is a 4* that's not a gem.

            OLB / DE Jackson Mueller
The four * gem a run stopping OLB we may move to rush DE at 6'3 and 234 pounds. He has mid 80's speed, 86 pursuit, 85 tackle and 83 strength. We aren't sure where he will fit in and the rush DE spot isn't one we will need next year. He likely will not want to redshirt so will have to find a way for him to play.

            HB / WR Andre Ha
A deep threat WR at 5'10 and 184 pounds that was a high school WR. He has a total of 5 badges and just a speed guy at this point 95 speed and 95 acceleration with 82 catch. He is a 4*, but not a gem so the upside is anyone's guess. Since he is moving to a new position he will redshirt next year. This will allow 2 years of separation between him and Godchaux who made the similar move to HB.

            TE Lenzelle Spears
The lone player of our top 5 targets we got and it was the 5th person a 6'3 244-pound blocking TE. His ratings don't really blow you away with strength being the only one in the 80's. However, he is a 4* gem so basically like a 5* player. We are counting on some upside here and hoping for some athletic ability and not just a blocker. He could play next year as we need help at TE.

            HB / FB Duke Ekanem
The heartbreak missing out on Wilcox to Colorado pushed Duke to the top spot. He will need to play next year as backup power back unless we find one in the portal. He is a power back with 93 speed, 86 acceleration, 84 strength just trucking and break tackle in the 70's. He is a 3* gem with just 3 badges and not the power you would like. He is a athlete so might could end up at FB or HB.

            Others

            OT Cole Canidate
We lead comfortable for the last 4* on our board a OT with 93 strength and 78 run blocking

            TE Nick Tyson
After we lost the stud vertical threat TE we had to go down to the 3* ranks. We found Nick early, but now Michigan State has joined in the fight. A 6'6 TE gem with 84 speed, 86 agility and several others in the 80's.

            TE Diego Boozer
Similar to Nick he is a little faster (86), but his hands aren't as good. We are his only offer so we like our odds to get him.

            WR / ATH Hunter Teague
We are shocked to find a physical WR with 96 speed that's a 3* gem with catch ratings in the 80's and 88 acceleration. Let's make Browder regret going to Penn State and being stuck on the bench while he starts day 1.

            ATH / HB Mykel Bulaga
A 3* power back with 90 speed, 91 acceleration, 84 trucking and 78 break tackle. If get everyone then we just play him at OLB.

            CB Kenyon Warner
A 6'3 3* gem CB we have been on for about a month. We lead for him with Kentucky coming in late.

            CB Baraka Tripp
Another 3* gem that will need a few years to develop. He is 3 inches shorter and worse zone coverage compared to Kenyon.

            HB Matt Vales
A 3* gem power back with 90 speed, 89 acceleration and trucking and break tackle in the 80's. We will keep him at HB and should sign him

            ATH Cedric Money
A 3* non gem LB with 89 speed, 7 acceleration and 77 tackling

            LB Ezekiel Gibbs
A 3* gem power rusher at 6'4 255 and slow he would be a DE for us

              Domination In Must Win Game

In maybe the biggest surprise in years we went on the road vs a top 5 Clemson team with everything on the line. It was complete domination as we win 41 to 10 and the lone TD they had came late. We now will go on to play Pitt for the ACC and a win gets us a 1st round bye and are heavy favorites. Clemson since they don't play in the title game is still projected to make the playoffs. In fact at this time we have 4 teams we faced all projected to make the playoffs with Miami, Nebraska and Hazzard all as of now in it.

We had 476 yards of offense and they had 299 as always we had 300+ on the ground. HB Phenix should have got 2 TD's instead officially he gets 1 and QB Tripucka gets credit for 2. He played just like we want him to 76% passing with no turnovers and made some passes at 146 yards. Niswander goes a long way in breaking Clare's records from last year with 121 yards and 2 TD's including a highlight TD. We had just 3 sacks with half of those from Swearinger (89 ovr) who might go pro after his recent hot streak. We had 28 minutes of T:O:P compared to 15

Wake Forest a 5 win team also on the road played us closer then Clemson and we won just 31 to 23. The total yards in this one were even. and they held us to just 3/11 on 3rd down. Their up tempo offense always seems to give us trouble and seems like it always will. QB Tripucka again no turnovers, but outside of 2 rushing TD's didn't get many stats. Thier DL gave us big time trouble and they had 6 sacks a season high. We tried to rest Niswander a bit in this game giving him just 19 carries for 110 yards. It was the first action for true freshman Forrest Burfict and he was super impressive almost getting 100 yards. #2 TE Warren Fontain continues to do way better then he should leading the team in yards today. We had 5 sacks of our own with 3 each from DE's Butts and Pittis. It wasn't all good news starting Lorenzo Cologne (89 ovr) tore his bicep and will miss the season.

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

HB Forrest Burfict Is Going To Be Special

If you have been following along since year 1 you know power HB's is where the attention is for us. We want that over speed, but still look for 90 speed and acceleration. The reason being teams always load the box and we want those extra few yards and falling forward. We have been doing it with 2* players for our career and just barely missed out on our first 4* guy to Colorado. So take the over on us playing them in about 2 years. We have a guy that saw his first action vs Wake Forest that we couldn't be more excited about. He has better raw talent than the previous HB's Clare and Niswander who had big time careers.

His name is Forrest Burfict a 3* gem from Florida and get use to hearing his name as he will be a major part of the offense. He will be the #1 power HB next year unless something unexpected happens in the portal. He is redshirting this year and during his first game has 18 carries, 96 yards, 1 TD and 5.3 per carry. He broke one tackle and had 30 yards after contact. His overall grade (72 ovr) is low now, but with our coaching skills and his impact development that should be high 70's before next year. We are losing four power HB/FB and have just 2 that will get the benefit of training camp.

The most exciting thing about Forrest is the upside he has in power and elusiveness with 3 bars in each. He already has 90 trucking, 84 break tackle, 79 strength which means when he reaches full potential that's mid-high 90's. His 82 agility, 77 change of direction, 79, juke and 80 spin all could use some work so it's good to have the elusiveness upside. The 86 acceleration is a little lower than we would like, but the 92 speed will make up for it. The catching and IQ potential will help boost that overall and help get him drafted and win awards. Once those ratings go up you will see the abilities like headfirst, downhill and workhorse kick in.

One major reason why the run game is so successful and will be next year is the OL. We are starting player with overall grades 87-89-89-89-88 and none of them are seniors. Even if one of them go pro we have depth the not skip a beat. The OL next year will be epic as just one of those 5 are a maxed out player and most have star development.

Comparison to Niswander who is going to break school record this YEAR as a senior to the true freshman before he has the offseason training boost

                  Speed = Burfict +2
                  Acceleration = Niswander +2
                  Agility = Niswander +2
                  Trucking = Niswander +1
                  Break Tackle = Burfict +6
Change Of Direction = Niswander +7
                  Carry = Niswander +18
Ball Carry Vision = Niswander +8
                  Strength = Niswander +1

Passing Game & DL Step Up

It was a low scoring 1st half just 7 to 3 vs the ranked Pitt who isn't as talented as we are. The 1st half was sloppy we had a turnover, missed FG and a turnover on downs coming up a yard short. The lone TD coming on a 68-yard TD run by the QB. The 2nd half Pitt was loading the box and we started throwing it and Tripucka had the biggest passing game we have in forever. He found our FB on a wheel route down to the 1. So we had to reward him on the next play since he is a senior. He then found Godchaux out of the backfield and later the #2 TE for a 75 yard TD. You also saw Niswander with a TD his 20th of the year. In the end we win 35 to 10 and clinch a 1st round bye.

It was domination 537 yards to 261 with both teams having 1 turnover. The story of the game a season high 7 lead by 2 from Amari Pitts and the filling in senior Josh Forsett. Dillon Butts continues his major season with 4 TFL and 1.5 sacks. What a time for Armon Tripucka to have his best game of the year he was 85% passing, 276 passing yards, 90 rushing yards and 3 TD.

                      5 Game Balls
QB Armon Tripucka = 12/14, 276 passing yards, 3 total TD, 0 Int, 11 carries for 92 yards
TE Warren Fontaine = 3 catches for 104 yards, 1 TD
DE Amari Pettis = 6 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks
LB Josh Forsett = 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks
CB Shawn Cantu = 10 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sacks,

Niswander & Butts Win Major Awards

Why Is TE Fontaine Good ?

Napier's players have won a few awards over the year most notable LB Sua Mix winning LB of the year the 1st year at Kennesaw State and Tyler Baskerville last year. This year some major awards FB Shamir Niswander won HB of the year and didn't make any all conference teams. He had 227 carries for 1,525 yards so a 6.7 avg with 20 TD. He needs 71 yards to break the school record for yards. He needs 2 TD for Napier's rushing TD's and 8 for the school record set before we got here.

Sophomore DE Dillon Butts who is the former 2* recruit with 99 strength and low 80's speed. He won defensive player of the year and DE of the year. He finished 2nd for the Lombardi. Some others in the running true freshman Amari Pettis was 3rd in defensive player of the year. Senior Tyler Baskerville was 3rd for DB of the year and Jabri Daly 9th. Dillon had 41 tackles, 23 TFL and 12.5 sacks as a DE. He is only a redshirt sophomore so now we are a little worried that he goes pro after this year. We think we can talk him to come back which would help his draft status since he has upside and 2 years of eligibility.

Sometimes thing don't make sense and we needed a #2 TE as Freshman Athya Kumerow keep on dropping passes. Senior Donalds Pitts a converted FB with 95 run block is TE #1, but we run a lot of 2 TE sets. If you don't know we don't put up much stats with our TE's they are mostly blockers. However, we are throwing it more this year and Tripucka has thrown for 2,000 yards

We didn't have any good options as we are redshirting the one TE with upside. We decided to just put junior Warren Fontaine in since we are up big on Georgia Tech. He is a 6'5 221 possession TE that even with boosts is only a 72 overall. If you check out his core ratings its around 80 for power, hands, quickness and 69 for blocking, route running and IQ. He does have the best catch, catch in traffic but his route running is about the worse on the team.

We can't explain it but in just 4 games playing Warren is 2nd on the team in yards. He has went over 100 yards in 2 of the 4 games and scored 4 TD's. He is getting the big play as well 20 yards per catch which is more about the offense then him. We can't explain it and despite his low overall grade he will be TE#2 for the playoffs. He ends up 2nd team All ACC and a top 12 finalist for TE of the year. He was expected to give up football at the end of year and now will be brought back and could even start.

                          2033 Playoffs

                          Godchaux's Coming Out Party

Clemson's a more talented team then us on paper and we destroyed them 41 to 10 on the road in week 12. That always scare you when facing them a 2nd time even when its a neutral site game

Armon makes a bad decision to try and pitch late and they pick it up and return it for a TD. Then they find thier #1 WR for a 49 yard TD catch and we are down 14-0 after 1. Armon finds the speed HB Godchaux out of the backfield then Niswander scores a short TD. That would tie it up at 14 at half. The 3rd quarter Armon was bothered by injuries so we play it safe and give him some rest since we have a quality backup. Cano more of a mobile QB steps in and on back-to-back plays has two perfect pitches to Godchaux on the option. He takes both of them to the house the longest being 71 yards. Niswander would add another TD in the 3rd and just like that we were up big. While trying to run clock late Godchaux breaks a tackle and has his 4th TD on the game. He is the highest rated HB on the roster as a freshman and is laying claim to being the guy next year.

The headliner here is clearly Morgan Godchaux a monster day 227 yards and 4 total TD's. It came in huge as a lot of players were banged up including both QB's and Niswander. It feels like KSU just has Clemson's number. at this point. We will go on to play Nebraska next round a team we also beat during the year, but they beat us in the playoffs last year.

                            2033 Playoffs - Semifinals

                            Game Of The Decade

Some games you remember and this is one of them a rematch in the playoffs vs the team that beat us last year. Nebraska a very talented team that runs a pro style offense. The first half a low scoring game 10 to 3 with the one TD coming from a short QB run. They would score 2 TD's in the 3rd and we went into the 4th down 7 points.

About midway through the 4th quarter we had it 4th and 5 at the 13 and a odd angle with a freshman Kicker. We decided to go for it because we didn't like the angle and even if we made it, we still needed a TD. We run our favorite passing flexbone play, but last games hero Godchaux can't hold on to it. Our defense holds and we get the ball back and are soon down inside the 5-yard line. QB Tripucka scores a TD on 3rd down to tie it with just a few minutes to go and we can take a deep breath. However, the rare review overturns the call and its now 4th and goal at the 1.

A big decision here we know they are selling out to stop the up the middle run. Do we still call it or get cute and pass it? If we fail on a pass we will definitely 2nd guess ourselves. We decide to go power with our stud Niswander and he isn't even close to getting a TD. For the 2nd time in the 4th we are in the redzone with no points to show. We are a little ahead of the 2 minute warning so still time and they are backed up.

We see they are in iformation so we call a blitz out of the 4-3 and guess up the middle run. They get cute and play action pass and we have 3 people in the endzone for the sack. This is massive because now we are down 5 and can win it with a TD.

We now have it 3rd and goal at the 3 and to make things even harder our star Niswander is injured and can't play through it. We go to our goal line heavy pass which puts a WR in motion and audible one TE. Now both TE's are doing quick outs as we know the pressure is coming. We look for our TE Fontaine and he catches it and we can see the story book ending in our head the lowly rated hero. However, the refs rule him a inch shy of the goal line.

It's now the final play of the game 4th and one inch with our star HB/FB injured. Do we power it with a worse power HB or try another pass. Even though its just 1 yard with a decade getting to this point it feels like 10 yards. We stick with goal line heavy and QB power and the transfer Tripucka scores easy. They have a few seconds to go and Swearinger gets a sack to officially end the game

Wow a classic game and the best I remember us playing. We now move on to face undeafted Notre Dame for the national championship. A gritty performance where the OL is the hero all 5 with 10+ pancake blocks

                              2033 National Championship

                              Finally A National Title ?

On their opening drive its 3rd and long in the redzone when ND scores on a TD pass. We got a wild sack where they lost 30 yards so we start at the +40, but are forced to settle for 3. It's still the 1st quarter and our DT Swearinger (89 ovr) is having the quarter of his life 6 tackles, 4 TFL and 2.5 sacks. We would later tie it up on a short TD run by the QB with 5 minutes in the 2nd. They would take the lead back by 7 on a TD run. Its 3rd and goal at the 7 when Niswander gets the edge for a TD before the half ends. He has made a killing out of that I-Formation wing set this year. It's tied at 17 at the break

They punt in the endzone and we foolishly hit the punter giving them a new set of downs. A costly mistake as we rarely go punt block. They get it inside the 10, but we hold them to 3. We go up by 4 points in the early 4th on a 1-yard TD by Niswander. They have it 3rd and 10 and throw it away and we take over with 8 minutes at the 33. We hit the TE Fontaine for 21 yards to midfield a huge play as TD basically wins it. Then Godchaux the freshman hero from last game says he isn't done. He breaks off a 33-yard TD run from the pistol and we are up 11 with 6 minutes to go. This is the biggest play in a decade and the national title we can smell. DE Dillon Butts won every award you could think of and gets a force fumble on a sack and we recover. We weren't really trying to score again, but they load the box and Godchaux again breaks off a long TD run.

That's it after close to a decade Billy Napier and his powerbone offense has finally won a national title.
