On The Road Vs #13 Aubrun

This is a tough one on the road vs #13 Auburn a win and you should make the playoffs and be favorites to win out. Auburn is led by one of the fastest QB's in the country.

The defense starts out hot getting 3 sacks in the first drive and they punt. We would have had a good drive, but 3 flags on the OL kills the drive and whips out a 40-yard run by our QB. We are closing in on the redzone and they get a sack and fumble. Another big holding call and we have to settle for 3 again flags cost us points. We are down 6 to 3 at half and get the ball so overall still doing ok.

Yet again a flag cost us the 1st and we have to punt. They have it 3rd and goal at the 20 after a sack and somehow score a TD. It's the late 3rd and we are down 10. We are in must score zone and lose 17 yards and quickly have to punt. They quickly answer with 7 fast and that appears to end any chances of pulling the upset. We do finally score a TD on a pass and need a stop and we get it. However, they get us for the rare roughing the punter call and they get a 1st down with just 7 to go. We think we have them stopped as its 4th down and they go for it on 4th and 2 and get the TD. They score some points late to make it look worse than it really was. They scored 41 points with 28 of those in the 4th

      KSU Improves To 4-1

After losing to Auburn, KSU has improved to 4 after 1 beating Georgia Southern 38 to 9 and Coastal Carolina 31 to 17. This now makes them 4-1 heading to a rare big out of conference game at home vs #15 Missouri. Georgia Southern had one of the lowest ratings in the conference but was 3-1 heading into the game. Costal Carolina is just slightly worse on paper then we are.

Georgia Southern was a total mismatch 443 yards off offense to 193 and we won the turnover battle by 1. The defense again was lights out just 9 points and got 3 turnovers with 2 sacks. The offense QB Lyles didn't have to do much just 13 pass attempts which he completed 9 and he did add 60 yards on the ground and 1 TD. It was a balanced effort with a total of 5 players 50 to 76 yards. It was 4 players with rushing TD's including the first for star freshman FB Niswander

More of a defense game here vs Coastal Carolina despite 31 points being scored as we have just 316 yards of offense for us. They held our run game in check just 3.2 per car. The +2 in turnovers for us was the big one and again the defense lead the way as they scored 14 of their 17 in the 4th. The 6'2 CB Bakhtiari had 2 interceptions with MLB Schaw getting 11 tackles. FB Niswander had 51 rushing yards and while Clare was held in check he did get 2 TD's

      Five Game MVP's Georgia Southern
HB Ed Childers = 7 carries for 69 yards
SS Jeremy Runyan = 6 tackles and 1 Int
LB Abdul Brisker = 5 tackles, 2 TFL, and 1 Int
      LB Kris Schaw = 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack and3 PBU
FS Fred Hoke = 3 tackles, 1 Int and 1 PBU

      Five Game MVP's Costal Carolina
QB John Lyles = 8/12, 93 pass yards, 27 rush yards and 2 TD
      LB Kris Schawb = 11 tackles,1 TFL
DE Alex Moe = 6 tackles, 1 TFL and 1 sack
CB Demario Bakhtiari = 2 Int and 2 PBU
      HB Demarcus Clare = 2 rushing TD's

        #15 Missouri Comes To Town

        Clare's National Breakout Game

Missouri is having a better season then expected the rare SEC team coming to our place. They are 5-1 and ranked #15 lead by one of the best dual threat QB's in the country. They have some injuries at DT and the highest ranked guy is just 66 overall so that will clearly be the game plan for us.

We fumble the opening drive and get it back and score on a triple option. Due to the risky nature of that call we don't do it much in the redzone. We get bad news starting rush DE Doug Maddox tears his hamstring. He will miss 7 weeks so should return if we were to make the playoffs. He is a senior and played 5 games so isn't eligible for a redshirt. Power HB Clare scores to make it 14-0 and he is having a monster game 9 carries for 98 yards. They go for it on 4th and inches and our defense holds. Right before half QB Lyles continues his bad game with his 3rd turnover and 2nd interception in the redzone. Things got worse and with just 20 seconds on the clock we blow a coverage, and they get a 77-yard TD. We are up 7 at halftime

Its 4th and goal at the 3 and Clare scores on the power I toss to make the lead 14. With 9 minutes in the game, we miss a tackle, and they get a 55-yard TD pass to cut the lead to 3. It's now 2 minutes in the game so we are up 3 at their 28, but they have all their timeouts. We get it down to the 12 and while they are still 1:48 to got they are finally out of timeouts. We get it down to the 5 on 4th and 3 and decide to go for it since they are just 26 seconds and a TD still beats us. Our receiving back is hurt and the replacement drops the would be TD. We do still hang on for the one of the biggest wins of the Napier Powerbone era.

KSU Holds Serve Now Ranked #20

As expected KSU is racking up the wins in the sunbelt now 7-1 after beating Southern Miss 28 to 7 and South Alabama 25 to 3. A bit of a defensive game under 400 yards of offense and half of the 28 points in the 4th quarter. QB Lyles bounces back 3 TD and 0 turnovers with FB Niswander 2 yards short of 100. Star pass rusher Alex Moe had 3 sacks, but he was matched by 3 from Frese on the other team. Drops were a problem for KSU with 6 on just 19 attempts.

South Alabama is one of the worst teams in the conference so prob should have won by more than 25 to 3. Another pretty slow game on offense under 400 yards with about 5 yards per carry. QB Lyles the rare game he lead the team with over 100 rushing yards and 2 scores. FB Niswander quietly is living up those monster expectations with 78 yards.

          Five Game ball's Southern Miss
          QB Lyles = 10/19, 103 yards, 27 rush yards, 3 total TD
FB Niswander = 17 carries for 98 yards, 5.8 avg
OT Austin Talib = 14 pancake blocks, 0 sacks allowed
CB Tyler Johnson = 7 Tackles, 1 int, 1 PBU and 1 TD
DE Alex Moe = 7 tackles, 3 TFL, 3 sacks

          Five Game ball's South Alabama
QB John Lyles = 13/ 20, 133 pass yards, 104 rush yards, 3 total TD
FB Niswander = 16 carries for 78 yards, 4.9 avg
DE Kevin Kalu = 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 0.5 sacks
          S Jeremey Runyan = 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 PBU
CB Demario Bakhtiari = 3 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 int

Best Game Of The Year Now Ranked #

            QB Lyles Continues Hot Streak

We started off slow with just 3 minutes till half time we had scored 0 points and just had the ball 4 minutes. We score a late TD then get a interception and add a FG at the buzzer. They were moving the ball with a dual threar QB, but we were keeping them out of the endzone. They would have 4 turnovers in the 2nd half and we explode and win 41 to 13. We had a lot of injuries suffered in the previous game so had 6 players miss the game with injury most of them on defense.

We were without 2 of our 3 LB's so had to start redshirt freshman Tommy Gage just a 64 overall grade. He had a big game with 7 tackles and a interception in the endzone. Demarcus Clare our sophomore power back a monster game 141 yards and over 8 a carry. Lyles had 0 turnovers and 4 TD's. When we don't turn the ball over and we can get the FB dive's going we are tough to beat.

              2031 Recruiting Class

              Trenches Highlight Class

Kennesaw has 18 seniors with most of the needs being on defense side plus OL. We don't need much at the skill players outside of 2 QB's. The big news we jumped up this offseason from a 1* to a 2* so we have more of a recruiting budget. We are still limited to 5 high school three * and they must have us in the top 5 preseason. Our grades are getting better, but still they are very poor outside of a few. We have the 44th best class in the country at the moment which will likely go down. We have 11 commits and have maxed out our 3* high schoolers we can sign. Lets briefly go over all of them

              OG Kameron Aviles
His grades might not blow you away for a 3* with just 69 run block and 83 strength. However, he is gem prospect so with our developmental system we are banking on some upside once he gets on campus

              OG Lorenzo Cologne
Another 3* gem and even though his ranking 1,029 is our favorite player we have committed. A unreal 93 strength the #1 thing we look at the high school level. With the depth of OL we have at OL he will take the redshirt year and with the team player badge likely moves to OT as he is 6'5 300 pounds. We expect a 4* starter for him.

              S Cameron Conklin
We said we don't value the S position enough to use a 3*. but we needed a future starter and we couldn't pass him up. A 3* gem from Mississippi with blazing 94 speed and 74 pursuit. We could possible see him start as a true freshman and has the team player badge.

              LB Enrique Baskerville
A 2* gem that will be more of a depth player prob for the next 3 years as we have 2 stud freshman LB's. The 83 speed is low for a pass coverage guy, but we are counting on the gem to get us some upside.

              OT Caleb Yazzie
we needed OT depth and another redshirt guy then compete for a starting job in a year. A perfect scheme fit with 88 strength and 84 run block power. He is a 3* non gem.

              ATH / MLB Gill Kugbila
We officially need more MLB and he prob can't move out. A 2* non gem, but we like the 87 speed and 88 acceleration with 79 tackle.

              S Andre Obomanu
A 2* S zone player with some speed at 88. When you are dealing with 2* like this we like the speed and hoping he has some upside when he gets on campus. If not then he will be a backup type

              MLB George Kaiser
Another MLB thankfully we think he should be ok moving to OLB if not S. He is smalll 6'0 and 215, but the 2* is a gem. He has some speed (87) and 80 tackling and we need bodies at OLB

              DT / C Alex Levine
The final 3* player is a jumbo athlete 6'3 and 303 pounds that we prob will need at DT more then C. He has 87 strength, 80 lead block and 86 impact block. The 75 speed and 65 agility means maybe that limits him as a rush DT. We will have to see when on campus and who get in the transfer potal

              CB Jabari Daly
We love this 2* guy a 6'3 CB with 92 speed and 2 mental badges. We see him being a multi year starter for us.

              ATH / DE Dillon Butts
A power rushing athlete at 6'2 241 pounds with 80+ speed and 84 strength. A 2* gem so we like what we have here as a future pass rusher DE.

Louisiana was supposed to be the easy win and ULM the tougher one as one is about 500 and the other 8-2. Louisiana ended up being a super close one as we win on a walk off TD run that you will just have to take our word on. We had over 400 yards of offense, but gave up more. We come back in the 2nd half outscoring them 20 to 3. With a ton of injuries, it was a new HB that had to be guy Freshman Parker Toone went over 100 yards. Their offense was really tough to stop with a QB over 300 yards and a HB over 100

The UL Monroe game was suppose to be the tough one they had just 2 loses and this was on the road for us. This one was a blowout with another 2nd half runaway 30-0 in the 2nd half. Which resulted in a 44 to 7 win. It was total domination 516 yards to 198 and we had 340 on the ground. With some HB injuries still around HB Parker Toone again over 100 yards.

                5 Game ball's vs UL
                John Lyles - 11/18, 122 pass yards, 61 rush yards, 1 TD
                Parker Toone - 10 carries for 121 yards, 12.1 Avg, 2 TD
                Fred Schulters - 8 carries for 49 yard, 2 total TD's
                Demario Bakhtiari - 3 tackles, 1 Int
                Jeremy Runyan - 1 tackle, 1 Int

                5 Game ball's vs ULM
                John Lyles - 16/23, 109 passing yards, 3 total TD, 1 Int
                Demarcus Clare - 17 carries for 113 yards, 6.6 Avg, 1 TD
                Parker Toone - 13 carries for 108 yards, 8.3 Avg, 1 TD
                Philip Kpassagnon - 4 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks
                Tracey Sylvan - 2 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks

                  Win Out = Make Playoffs

                  QB Lyles Historic Night

It happened again the game that was supposed to be easy wasn't as 4 win Marshall put up a fight. We win 37 to 35 as Marshall QB Bettis (79 ovr) had the biggest game vs us we can remember. He had 410 yards with 3 TD and 0 interceptions with 52 rushing yards and 1 TD. HB Clare lead the way for us with 25 carries for 141 yards and 1 TD. A lot of offense with nearly 500 yards for both teams

We have a long drive to start off and end up settling for a FG. We quickly get the ball back with a interception by our starting CB. However with the ball inside the 3 our QB fumbles and we get no points. Starting DE Doug Maddox has been out since game 5 and returns tonight and gets a sack. We start over at the +42 and up 6 to 0 with 7 minutes to go till halftime. This time QB Lyles doesn't fumble and scores to extend the lead to 13 with 4 minutes to go. We have to settle for a FG again to end the half so its 16 to 0. It was absolute domination with time of possession as we had the ball 18 of the 22 minutes.

We start off the 3rd quarter with a nice jumping interception by our #1 CB and start in the redzone. With the ball at the 1 and our OL playing great we decide to gift the TD to Lyles again on the ground. We call a pass, but the lan is wide open and Lyles scores his 3rd rushing TD of the year and maybe the nicest of his career (30-0). During garbage time we go to freshman HB Phenix who ever time he has played looks great and this time was no different. Since he broke off a 50 yard run we figure he earned a rushing TD.

A historic night just the 2nd conference championship and 1st at Kennesaw State for Napier since this the rebrand. We have ULM # as our offense couldn't be stopped and defense was worlds better than last game. Since we came into this game in the playoffs and ranked 12th this should seal us making the playoffs for the 1st time. This was one for the record books for our Senior QB Lyles who maybe becomes a top 5 overall player ever for Napier with 4 rushing TD's and 90% passing

                    Playoff Bound

This is the 6th year since Napier decided to go with the powerbone offense, Instead of taking shortcut he has done it the hard way with mostly all 2* recruits. That hard work has paid off as Kennesaw State is as is got his team to the playoffs and signed a contract extension. They are whispers his team could be joining a new conference this offseason. This was a dominate team 7th in defense and 11th in scoring. The stars of the team QB John Lyles with 28 total TD and 2,000 total yards and one of the best rated QB's in the country. As of now Sophomore Demarcus Clare leads the nation in rushing yards with 1,067. The defense is 3rd in sacks with Kevin Kalu and Alex Moe having 9 each

The bad news we face the in state Georgia Bulldogs a team that has blown us out twice in recent years. Those game were on the road and so will this one be. While Lyles comes in just outside the top 10 QB's UGA's Akeem Uche is 2nd and had 3,400 yards with 33 TD and 13 Int plus 400 rushing yards. They worry us on defense with 3 DL with 8.5+ sacks. A very talented front 6 so its strength on strength. One advantage we could have is they play a 3-3-5 defense and historically we do great vs 3 man fronts.

Editors Note - I leave for a cruise Friday so the plan is to get caught up both playing and posting before I leave

                      Playoff Time

The time is here for our first ever playoff game and we are big underdogs being on the road. They start off with a drive that takes up half the quarter and we hold them to 3. It's 4th and 3 at the -45 and normally we would go for this, but since it's the opening drive on the road and the 1st drive we punt. They split our safeties and get us deep for a 75-yard TD catch. Senior Alex Moe has 2 sacks this drive and we hold them to a FG again in the late 2nd (13-0). They get another in the closing seconds before half a backbreaker to make it 20-0. The opening drive its 4th and long and we decide to kick the 44-yard FG and we miss. Lyles then makes a costly interception on a bad ball his 2nd interception of the game. They start in good field position and that kills any chance of a comeback. Unfortunately, Lyles career ends poorly a fluky deflection in the redzone for his 3rd interception of the game. It's 4th and goal in garbage time and we don't get it and lose 30 to 0. The total yards weren't all that different, but 270 passing yards for them at half and -3 in turnovers for us do us in. Penn State goes on to win the national championship a rare undeafted season

                          Final 2030 Gradurating Class

                          Major Loss (key starters)

                          QB John Lyles (89 ovr)
Not the way we wanted to go out with 3 interceptions still a 3-year starter that ends up getting drafted in the 4th round. He's 6'5 224 pounds with 99 short accuracy, 96 arm strength, 99 agility and solid 82 speed. His completion % went up each year 52 to 60 to 63 while cutting back on turnovers. His passing yards were never going to be amazing with 5,000 in 3 years. He had 41 passing TD's, 26 Int with 31 more rushing TD's . His improved speed showed this year and he doubled his rushing yards 317 to 606 and finishes with 1,232 for his career. He ranks the #2 all time QB for us and since he owns the career rushing TD mark inside the top 10 all time players

                          FS Fred Hoke (87 ovr)
A productive starter for 3 years and 60+ tackles the 2 years he was fully healthy. He made the move to FS this year but that didn't result in making anymore plays. Whoever starts at FS next year will not be rated this high. We think he could have been drafted late

                          DE Alex Moe (86 ovr)
A crime that he wasn't drafted a power rusher at 247 pounds and 92 acceleration. Just massive stats with 28.5 in 3 years and 12 of those this year. Since he owns the season and career sack #he ranks as Napier's best ever DL and 8th best overall player

                          OG Andy Pitts (86 ovr)
The highest rated overall on our team and starting the last 2 years.

                          DT Philip Kpassagnon (84 ovr)
He never came close to reaching his potential still he was a big time player for us at DT and rush DT. He had 4 to 6 sacks the last 3 year after originally committing to Minnesota

                          Mild Loss (mostly backups)

                          OT Zay Longo (83 ovr)
He missed a year and a half because injuries and split time his senior year at RT.

                          DE Doug Maddox (83 ovr)
One of our first big transfer gets and a injury caused him to mis most of what would have been a big senior year. I guess you have to say he didn't live up to the hype with just 6 sacks in 2 years

                          DE Julius Witherspoon (82 ovr)
He lead with 6.5 sacks our first year then was passed on the depth chart by other players. His playing time was diminished the last few years and at 294 pounds was able to play rush DT

                          TE Anthony Scifres (80 ovr)
A 3-year starter for us, but in this offense is more of a blocker. He had 62 catches in 3 years so had some hands as well.

                          QB Damarius Fayad (79 ovr)
He never started for us and saw his role cut back this year as we gave shortened up the people carry the ball. He was mostly the wildcat QB and even started half a year at WR one year and had 342 yards that year. His 85 speed. 95 acceleration we always wonder what he could have done as the starting QB. It was a big piece of mind knowing we had him as a backup QB. He was huge his junior year with 569 rushing yards and 7 TD on nearly 10 yards per carry.

                          C Josh Blacknall (77 ovr)
He split time the last few years and his upside limited him.

                          WR Trey Lewis (75 ovr)
Easily our most reliable WR and the #1 the last 3 years with about 400 yards per year. He could block and had reliable hands so he will be missed despite never improving any the last 3 years

Small to No Impact (didn't play)

                          S Zach Roach (77 ovr)

                          DT Fred Parish (78 ovr)

                          DE Taj Beckner (76 ovr)

                          OT M. Lodge (74 ovr)

                          WR E. Bliss (73 ovr)

                          WR K. Erving (68 ovr)

                            5 Offseason Storylines

Here it is our final update till about February 11th its 5 offseason storylines / question to monitor

                            1. How much does QB Cory Flood Improve?
The 3* gem with impact development already has 94 arm strength and in the 80's in all speed ratings. His overall is low now (68) but our OC has QB offseason training boost so that should help. We really would like to see that overall grade go up to mid 70's. With a good a offseason he could be our first 4 year starter at QB. If he doesn't maybe we go with a transfer for 1 year.

                            2. Can KSU add a QB in the transfer portal?
We only have 2 QB's on the roster and need to add 2 more and really want a more proven #2 via the transfer portal. We don't have a high school QB committed just yet but 2* gem Deshaun Keenoy is a near lock to be the 3rd. We love Lamichael Hope, but we think the bigger schools will come calling for him and similar story for Courtland Douzable. We like Warren Yelk another scrambler, but may have already fallen behind the one offer of USF. We really need to find a 4th QB via the portal, but it's looking like the 3* guys we will lose out on. It would be dangerous to just have 3 on the roster so might have to get a body that's senior transfer 1 or 2*

                            3. The OL turnover will not be as big as expected. How does that look next year?
We lost 2 starters at OL and one key backup. But we already have our RT replacement the elite dev Jon Bearden (79 ovr) who started down the stretch. We will need to do some shuffling of positions as we currently have 5 OG's 80+before offseason training and just 3 OT's on the roster. Despite being a 2 year starter we don't think C Dom Linder (82 ovr) will start since he is maxed out potential and others don't. Tyler Menzie (83 ovr) is the bet run blocker and likely starts at C next year. It's about a 4 way battle for the other spot so will all hinge on who improves

                            4. How much does the young CB room improve?
We had all freshman and sophomore's at CB last year lead by Tevin Johnson (86 ovr) and Demario Bakhtiari (78 ovr) with 3 more guys really close for the 3rd spot. They are all back and some have + development. We saw UGA carve us up in the passing game so we need the CB group to improve

                            5. Are the rumors of joining the ACC true?
The intel we have says this is likely happening for this offseason

KSU Joins ACC & Bigger Recruiting Budget

The rumors were true after winning the sunbelt and making the playoffs Kennesaw State have joined the ACC. This is a no brainer move a bigger conference as they talent had outgrew the small sunbelt. They will join the ACC south as we have split up into 2 divisions and face a lot of teams in nearby states. The ACC will have 9 conference games so 3 non-conference games. Smoky Mountain Black Bears a rebrand team will also be joining the ACC. The south is the much stronger division where along with us we have Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Smoky Mountain all ranked in the preseason

The last 6 years we have been doing this with 2* players and a max of five 3*. With the success the last few years we have saw our school grades improve we have 4 A's and one B now. With the extra revenue coming in we have been able to up the recruiting budget up a level. We will use 3* as our base and be able to go after some 4*. We will have a transition year of three 4*year a then expand that to 5 next year. They must have us top 3 this year and the next year that shifts to top 5. We lost our DC this offseason so in preparation for this we have hired a new DC that has recruiting skills. We are very excited to see what this offense can do with higher end talent. Since we are going up against higher end talent it could end up being a wash.

                                5 Best Players

                                HB Demarcus Clare
The junior power back improves his speed (90) so add that to 89 trucking, 84 strength, 81 break tackle 87 acceleration paired with a elite OL and its trouble. He lead the nation with 1,154 rushing yards and 9 TD's so we would like to see 1,500 this year

B Back / FB Shamir Niswander
A big time true freshman year with 861 yards and 5 per carry. With a improved offseason he is better with his secondary skills this year. His 91 speed, 88 acceleration, 86 trucking is tough to stop in the FB spot in the flexbone. We expect 1,000 yards on the ground and want to get him more rushing TD's

                                DE Kevin Kalu
He broke out last year going from 4 sacks to 9.5 and returns for his senior year. We will keep him fresh only being a rush DE at 6'3 268 pounds. A pretty good blend of speed and strength just never developed the finesse moves. We would be stunned if he doesn't get 10+ sacks this year

                                LB Kris Schwab
We projected the other 3* gem LB we signed to be the star and instead its Schwab with the highest overall grade on the team. He is just a sophomore and has some room to get even better. He had 87 tackles, 9 TFL and 1.5 sacks and missed some time with injury. The perfect LB for us with 90ish speed, 89 tackle and 90 zone coverage.

                                C Tyler Menzie
The former liberty transfer started at OG last year and moved to C this year. The best run blocker on the team with 89 strength and 95 lead block and some agility. We think he gets drafted this year

                                5 Fresh Faces

                                QB Cory Flood
The 3* gem now a redshirt freshman is QB and we have very little depth at the position after striking out in the transfer portal. His raw talent is off the charts still it scares us seeing that 71 overall rating. The fastest QB we have ever had (87 spd and acc) with 94 arm strength. The accuracy is really low so we will have to protect him with play calling. While he can run we don't want him getting hurt. He still has some upside in key areas like power, quickness and elusiveness

                                FB Rudy Mekari
The sophomore has beat out the blocking FB Schulters who has started the last few years. He has a outstanding 87 run blocking and 83 lead block. He has enough speed and trucking to get some carries. You won't see him show up on the stat sheets, but he is a key part to the offense.

                                DE Troy Swearinger
He is going to be a stud the former 3* gem and is starting at rush DE as a freshman. He has 84 speed, 92 acceleration, 88 strength, 81 finesse move at 280 pounds. A ton of upside to and has star development so watch out in the years ahead. I don't think we have a player on the roster with more upside then him.

                                FS Cam Conklin
The true freshman as won the starting job and has impact dev and a lot of upside. He is the fastest guy on the roster now so his 94 speed is about all he has got. Since it's a weak position for us we go with the upside. We don't start many true freshman so you just want him to survive early and pay his dues for next year.

                                DE/DT Roger Wilkins
He has played some getting 6.5 sacks last year, but moves up the pecking order to be a full time starter. The 288 pounder will play DE and rush DT. Tied for the strongest guy on the team (97) with 87 acceleration and high IQ. We could see him push for 10 sacks and is just a junior.
