Michigan always brings the defense. should be a good matchup with your high power attack with GNK vs their defense. But you also have a pretty stout D so that should give you an edge.

I love how all of your receivers are always involved. I'm hoping a few of the recruits I brought in can help even the offense out cause I can definitely feel the pressure when Branch is getting doubled.

One more win to cap an epic 1st season in lubbock

RED RAIDERS WIN NATTY @ HOME

All week sports reporters have been talking about the unfair advantage that Texas Tech would have against Michigan because of the fact that this year's National Championship Game was being held at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Even Michigan Coach Sherron Moore mentioned it several times in a pre-game interview.

      Coach Scott
"I get it, yes there where more Red and Black in the stands vs Blue and Yellow but host Stadiums are picked years in advance and no one in their right mind even gave TTU a 2% chance of being here today when that decision was made. It's not like we can up and move the location of the game because we are here today"
      GAME RECAP

Home field advantage or not, Texas Tech did what they have done every game in the playoffs so far and that is take a lead into the half as TTU as GNK throws 2 TD's to Erich Schumacher to give the Red Raiders a (14-7) halftime lead. For Schumacher it was his 22nd and 23rd of the season, as he sets a Texas Tech Single Season Record.

Texas Tech would extend the lead to (21-7) as GNK finds LJ Johnson for a 8 yd score. For GNK it was his 60th TD pass of the season and a new school record for most Passing TD's in a season. For Johnson's #13 matched his career high from his Soph season in 2026.

For GNK 60 TD's was a new Texas Tech Single Season record, but still far from the National Record of 67 set by Cade Klubnick (Clemson) in 2025.

Back to the game.... Michigan down by 2 scores went into the 4th needing to mount a comeback and did as SO RB Steven Good scores twice including a 20 yd TD run.. Michigan however wasn't looking for a tie and elects to send the offense out for the 2pt play but comes up short.

TTU looked to put things away as GNK drives the ball down the the 10 but his pass to Schumacher is tipped into the hands of FS Jacob Oden. Oden however in his excitement steps out of the endzone and is tackled at the 2 yd line.

Facing a snap in the endozne, QB Warren Gano tried to get the pass off quick but the combo of Baadknews and Pippen were there as Baadknews gets credit for sack and safety to make it (23-20) with 4 minutes to play.

Texas Tech not taking any chances would look to keep the ball on the ground and Kenyon Enis comes up big rushing for 63 yds of his 103 yds on the day on the final series including a 31 yd long as he extends the lead to (30-20) with under a minute to play.

Gano got the Wolverines in FG position and facing a 4th and long, Michigan actually attempted a FG with 14 seconds to play. The only thing Coach Scott could figure was if they had made it, they could try for a onside kick in hopes of scoring a TD on that series to tie the game.

The kick however was wide right... Texas Tech is your 2028 National Champions!!!!!!

      FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-30 MICHIGAN-20

      KEY PLAYERS
      QB GNK-20/24 269 yds 3 TD 1 INT, 37 yds rushing
      RB-K. Enis-13 carries 103 yd 1 TD 1 rec 10 yds
      WR E. Schumacher-12 rec 198 yds 2 TD
      WR C. Myers-2 rec 18 yds
WR LJ Johnson-2 rec 14 yds 1 TD
      TE T. Kugbila- 2 rec 25 yds

        END OF THE YEAR REPORT

        OC PRUITT LEAVES FOR OKLAHOMA

Well Coach Scott was turning down interviews and opportunities to leave Lubbock,, Offensive Coordinator Clairence Pruitt decided he was a 1 and done at TTU.

Pruitt who previously coached at North Texas before joining TTU this season, announced his decision actually prior to the Red Raiders Playoffs, but Coach Scott felt it best to wait to tell the players and fans after the season was officially over.

        Coach Scott
"I will never hold a coach on my coaching staff back from putting himself in a position that he thinks will better his career. Coach Pruitt did a amazing job for us this season and I wish him the best"
SCOTT HIRES FORMER FAU OC CHARLIE FRYE AS NEW TTU OC

Texas Tech is excited to welcome former QB Charlie Frye to Lubbock as the Red Raiders new OC.

        Coach Scott
"I was super excited when Charlie accepted the offer.. Despite being let go by FAU after a 2-10 season, Frye brings a wealth of knowledge at the QB position and I believe will help expand our offensive playbook next year. Frye was a outstanding/record setting QB at Akron (Holds 54 records). He spent 5 years in the NFL after being a 3rd round pick by the Browns but injuries cut his career short. As a Coach, Frye was the OC/QB Coach at Central Michigan before going back to the NFL to work as the QB Coach for the Miami Dolphins. Then came back to the college ranks with Penn State as a Offensive Analyst in 2022 before taking the FAU job in 2023. We are excited because he expands our connections to some other pipeline states including the East Coast"
        MARTINEZ LEAVES EARLY FOR DRAFT

JR Defensive End Miguel Martinez (88 Ovr) announced his decision to Coach Scott after the National Title game, and Scott wished him the best...

Martinez ended up going in the 6th round along with fellow DE Branden McGhee (86 Ovr). Martinez finished the year with 36 Tackles (13 TFL) and 4.5 Sacks well McGhee had 20 Tackles with 8 TFL and 5.5 Sacks. McGhee played in just 7 games well Martinez played in 12.

COLLINS SELECTED IN THE 1ST ROUND/ROOT IN THE 2ND ROUND

Despite missing several week with a injury, Isaiah Collins (91 Ovr) made big plays when it mattered most and those plays were scene by NFL scouts who made sure he was a 1st Round Pick He leaves TTU with over 122 Tackles in 3 seasons and 8 INT's.

Former TE Bart Root (91 Ovr) moved to Fullback this season and didn't really do much recording just 1 carry for 2 yds but his time spend at both positions (TE in 2026 had 53 rec for 596 yds 3 TD) showed someone enough to get selected in the 2nd Round.

        TTU LANDS #5 OVERALL CLASS

Texas Tech went into the off-season with just 10 departures from this year's roster (9 Seniors plus Martinez leaving early) but Coach Scott and the TTU staff went hard in Recruiting bringing in a total of 28 Recruits (3-5*,8-4*-17-3*), which means Coach Scott will have to make some hard decisions with encouraging current members of the roster to hit the transfer portal.

Some late additions to this year's class in the final weeks included 4* QB George Hahn (#46 Overall/#4 QB) from Coppell Texas (#7 TX) a 6'3 234lb Field General who will look to battle 4* Dee Fuller (#53 Overall/#5 QB) from La Habra CA as GNK understudy.

4* TE Deon Irvinng (#65 Overall/#3 TE) was another late addition. Irving listed at 6'3 235lbs is from Aurora IL (#2 recruit). He is expected to redshirt but could be a starter in 2030.

COLLINS AND GNK NAMED NCAA ALL-AMERICANS

Collins was named to the 2nd Team All-American well GNK was named to the All-Freshman team.

NCAA ANNOUNCES MAJOR CHANGES TO BIG 12/PAC-12 AND AMERICAN/MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCES

TTU's Quest for a 2nd National Title just got harder well Boise State's quest for #3 might have just gotten easier.

TTU will now play in the Big 12 (was American last year), as the American and Big 12 swap 50% of the teams.

The new look Big 12 will be Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor joining Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in 1 Division well TCU, Houston,SMU will be joined by Kansas State, Nebraska and Colorado.

The American Conference will now be home to 6 Texas Schools in 1 Division

Rice, North Texas, UTSA, Texas State and Sam Houston will be joined by UTEP who is leaving the MWC.

The other Division will be home to Iowa, Iowa State, Tulsa, Illinois, Northern Illinois and Kansas.

The Pac-12 was 14 teams for the last 3 seasons, but they are shrinking to just 12. Arizona and Arizona State are being welcomed back in and will join USC/UCLA/Stanford and Cal in the Southern Division, well the North will lose BYU leaving it Boise State, Utah, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State.

The Mountain West gets back 4 former teams as BYU, Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State all return.

The new divisions will be UNLV, Nevada, Wyoming along with the 3 California schools (San Diego State, Fresno State, and San Jose State).

The other division will be BYU joining Colorado State, Utah State, Air Force, New Mexico and New Mexico State.

Hawaii is moving to the Independent well Army is leaving the Independent to join the MAC.

Changes were not done yet. The SEC also saw 2 teams leave 2 teams join and 2 teams swapped divisions.

FAU and FIU are headed to the Sun Belt and are being replaced by Louisiana (ULL) who has won 3 Sun Belt titles in the last 5 years along with Tulane.

They will join Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, and Missouri in the SEC East well Georgia and Georgia Tech are moving to the SEC South Division joining Florida, Florida State, Miami, UCF and USF.

The MAC didn't just add Army, they also added Temple but in the process lost UConn who replaces Temple in the Big Ten North.

The ACC and CUSA remained unchanged for now...

                7 games against Pre-Season Top-25 teams and only 1 team rated below a a 82 Overall (Rice at 77).

                ROSTER PREVIEW

                QUARTERBACK
SO George "GNK " Nkansah (81 Ovr) returns as QB1 after record breaking Freshman campaign throwing for 5433 yds with 60 TD and 22 INT. GNK also added 428 yds on the ground.

                Coach Scott "
GNK is a Heisman favorite if he can cut down the INT this season. This teams success will ride his arm all season long"
RS JR Nate Sun (80 Ovr) returns as QB2, but Sun saw little action last season completing just 2/6 for 22 yds with 1 INT.

RS FR S. Hollman (77), and RS FR D. Biggs (77) will rotate as the #3

FR D. Fuller (77), G. Hahn (77) and J. Heredia (71) will all redshirt. Odds are 1 of the 3 could be looking at a encouraged transfer next season.

                BACKFIELD

RS SR Kenyon Enis (81) returns as RB1 after leading the team with 810 yds on 225 carries (3.6 Avg) with 4 TD's last season. Enis had 6 fumbles though and could be pushed for a wider share of the carries by RS SO Sal Trejo (83) who had a great spring.

RS SR M. Doelgala (77), RS SO E. Robbins (79 ad RS FR M. Rosario (79) provide excellent depth.

FB- Texas Tech doesn't deploy a FB often but when they do RS FR Sam Asiasi (73) will take over for B. Root who is gone to the NFL. TTU added 3* Diego Bierra (67) for depth, but he will redshirt this season.

                Coach Scott
"Coach Frye and I talked and getting production from the ground game this year is something we would like to improve on. With Enis and Dolgala both set to graduate it will also be important to land a RB or 2 in this year's recruiting class after not signing one last year besides Bierra at FB"

                RECIEVER/TIGHTEND

Gone is LJ Johnson and C. Myers but returning are 2 (1000+ yd) receivers as RS SR Erick Schumacher-85 Ovr (89 rec 1638 yds 23 TD) takes over as WR1 and SR Miguel Cashman-88 Ovr returns as WR2 (61 rec 1001 yds 9 TD)

RS JR A. Manzo (82 Ovr) will start the year as the #3 but look for RS SO S. FInau (78 Ovr) and RS SR R. Burks (77 Ovr) to push him for catches as they rotate as the team's #4. Burks finished last year with 11 rec for 121 yds and 1 TD

RS SO C. Wimbley (75) and RS FR G. Ingold (74) provide solid depth as well. Wimbley will likely see some action on Special teams as a return specialist.

FR's P. Ekwonu (67) L. .Murray (67) and D. Davis (66) are all 3* recruits added late and will redshirt this season with hopes of replacing the 3 departing Seniors unless TTU add's more talent in this year's class.

                Coach Scott
"Last year we saw Schumacher break out and have a monster year after starting the year as our #4. We are hoping we could see something similar from Finau or Manzo. Both guy's are projected to be our top WR's next year and we will need to see some growth from each player.
RS SR T. Kugbila (81) returns as the starting TE, a role he covered all last year recording 39 rec for 459 yds and 4 TD.

RS SO D. Frost (80) moves up to TE2. He recorded 3 rec for 41 yds last year as a Freshman. RS FR T. Carreon (72) will be the team's #3.

4* D. Irving (73) and 3* E. Speed (65) will btoh redshirt. Reports are Irving the best blocker of the group could potentially move to FB next season.

                O-LINE

5* Recruit (#1 Overall) Deontay Myers (78 Ovr) will start the year as the team's starting LT. RS SO R. Mallory (78) and RS SO J. Bias (76) are slated to back him up.

SR M. Best (88) returns as the team's starting LG. He will be backed up by JR's D Ashmore (83) and E. Tyler (80) as well as RS FR J. Todia (79)

SR R. Lorello (89) returns as the team's starting Center. SR J. McNeill (80), and RS FR G. Amadi (75) provide solid depth, well 3* Recruits N. Session (67) and L Pifter (65) both redshirt.

                JR R. Treggs (87)
had a huge spring and will move into the starting RG role. SR D. Soriano(82) who started last year will back him up. 4* T. Valdez (75) and 3* G. Igwenagu (66) will both redshirt.

SR S. Rome (79) returns as the teams starting RT, well SR G. Hope (78) will be the primary backup. 4*'s A. Wooten (75) and L. Brooks (75) will both redshirt with the expectations that 1 of them will take over the starting job next year.

                D-LINE

RS SO G. Hendrix (79) takes over the starting LE spot. Hendrix had 19 Tackles including 6 TFL and 5.0 sacks last season as a reserve and part time starter.

RS SO M. Biggums (73) will be his primary backup. Biggums also saw extended PT last season because of injuries finishing with 23 Tackles (7 TFL) and 6 sacks. 4* Recruit F. Gash (76) will redshirt and provide more depth next year.

SO A. Stick (81) will start at RE. Stick ended up playing in 7 games last year as a true freshman recording 7 tackles with 1 TFL and 1 Sack.

4* B. Guillermo (75) will start the year on the active roster as the primary backup on the right side. 3* recruits T. Leon (73) and K. Conners (72) will both redshirt.

SR R. Pippen (84) and SO S. Robinson (86) are the starters when TTU runs a 4 Defender Front. Pippen had 35 Tackles with 7 TFL and 6.0 Sacks last year. Robinson was pulled from his redshirt and played in 7 games last year recording 1 Tackle.

Reports are for now, Coach Scott plans on keeping 5* Enrique Nunn (78 Ovr) on the active roster as the #3 despite having JR G. Lekkerkerker (77) returning as depth.

                Coach Scott,
I have always been a believer no matter what 5* Recruits shouldn't be redshirted.. If Nunn doesn't see action in more then 4 games we can always add the redshirt later Last year we had alot of injuries on the line and we had to pull Stick and Robinson off their redshirts. My hope is we might be able to add one to Nunn if we can stay healthy but for now he will be Active for Game 1..
                LINEBACKERS

SO C. Gee (79) will start at LOLB. Gee recorded 9 Tackles as a true freshman last season. JR M. Ingold (74) will the the primary backup. 3* M. Vizcaino (68) will redshirt.

                D. Vanover (81) had a great spring and takes over as the starting MLB. He recorded 28 Tackles (22 Solo/3 TFL)) last year .
RS JR B. Gibbs (76) will be the primary backup and could push Vanover for more time after starting most of last season finishing with (52 Tackles/43 Solo/2 TFL with 1 sack)

JC Transfer JR T. Patten (70) will the the # MLB, well 3* C. Cormier (69) will redshirt.

                Coach Scott
"Last year I felt like we had a lack of depth at Linebacker forcing us to play alot of 4-2-5 and 3-2-6 Defense. I feel like this year the depth is good enough we could open up our play style and add in some traditional 4-3 as well.

                DEFENSIVE BACKS

The Fowler Brothers JR Evan (82) and SR Daquan (81) are back to starting together with the graduation of Collins. They combined for 133 Tackles with 4 INT last season.

5* Recruit Matt Sorah (78) will the the team's #3 and could push for a starting job by mid-season.. Former 4* RS FR B. Castilllo (78) redshirted last year and willl be the team's #4 but like Sorah could push for a bigger role by year's end and a Sorah for a starting job next year, after having a great spring.

RS SO C. Lopes (74) will provide additional depth well 3* B. Ricks (64) will redshirt.

SR R. Peppers (81) returns as the team's starting FS. Peppers recorded 57 Tackles with 1 INT last season. RS SO K. Guy (79) moves over from CB to become Peppers primary backup and starter next year. He will see the field when TTU runs a 6 DB formation. He Had 31 Tackles and 1 INT last year as a Freshman.

                RS SO R. Lampkin (73)
                will be the team's #3, well 3* J. Bermudez (68) will redshirt.

SR C. DePola (85) returns as a starter after recording (75 Tackles/58 Solo) with 2 TFL and 1 INT last year. He was named a Defensive Team Captain.

RS SO L. Bravo (74) will the the primary back, Bravo redshirted last year.

                SPECIAL TEAMS

RS SO K. Bean (68) takes over as the team's primary FG with the graduation of W. Eckert (19/22 FG's made). 3* Recruit D. Khaled (66) will redshirt but could be pulled from it if Bean struggles.

Another option could be SR Punter T. Pride (78) handling all kicking duties. Pride will do kickoffs as well as Punts. Last year he was called upon a career high 65 times and averaged 41.6 yds including a long of 63 yds with 11 pinned inside the 20 yd line and 9 touchbacks.

RS FR RB M. Rosario (91) will be one of the primary Kick Returners, well True FR CB Matt Sorah (89) will also join him. Sorah is currently listed as the #1 Punt returner.

running game seemed to be off in week 1, but GNK more than made up for it.

Actually 96 yds and 3 TD's is typically more then we were getting from the ground game last year. I honestly would like my offense to be a little more balanced like it was at BSU,. My Air Raid OC left for Oklahoma and Charlie Frye (FAU) comes from more of a traditional spread offense, so I honestly am not sure what I will run this year. So far I am still running the West Virginia Air Raid playbook which does have 2 Formations from the Pistol, 17 from Shotgun, 1 Split T, 1 Wildcat and 1 Full House.

                          SLOW START TURNS INTO BLOWOUT!!

                          GAME RECAP

Sam Houston played a great 1st Quarter, holding the Red Raiders scoreless after Kenyon Enis fumbled inside the 5 yd line.

Enis would find some redemption early in the 2nd Quarter scoring on a 8 yd run to put TTU up (7-0). Then it was Sam Houston who had turnover issues as they gave the ball right back as Texas Tech adds to the lead (14-0) on a GNK 41 yd TD pass to JR WR Adrian Manzo. TTU would make it (21-0) after a INT by OLB B. Gibbs off SO QB K. Lokombo (76 Ovr), GNK would find Manzo again for their 2nd TD of the day.

A 3 and out by the Bearkats with 48 seconds to play in the half left just enough time for TTU get 3 more on the boards as FR K. Bean hits from 25 yds out with 2 seconds play making it 24-0.

TTU came out of the locker room and went right back to work scoring 3 times in the 3rd Quarter with GNK finding Cashman and Schumacher for scores of (35 and 16) yds to make it 38-0 before Sam Houston would finally get on the scoreboard with a 38 yd FG to make it (38-3) but TTU was not done as GNK runs in his 1st rushing TD of the day with a 12 yd keeper to make it (45-3) going into the 4th.

The Bearkats would actually score twice in the 4th with SR RB K. Alvarez (75 Ovr) punching in 2 short runs for scores. Sam Houston would attempt the 2pt conversion on their 2nd one coming up short leaving it (45-16)..

Texas Tech at this point just wanted the game to be over with and escape injury free. Enis would carry the ball 6 times on the final drive before giving the ball up to fellow SR RB Mateo Dolegala for a 1 yd TD plunge.

FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-52 SAM HOUSTON-16

                          KEY PLAYERS
                          QB- GNK 16/20 251 yds 4 TD, 67 yds rushing 1 TD
                          RB K. Enis-19 carries 61 yds 1 TD 1 Fumble
                          RB M. Dolegala-1 carry 1 yd 1 TD
                          WR A. Manzo-5 rec 129 yds 2 TD
                          WR M. Cashman-5 rec 77 yds 1 TD
                          WR E. Schumacher-3 rec 26 yds 1 TD

UP NEXT TTU @ (1-1) North Texas.

                          Coach Scott
"Honestly I am not sure their reasoning for going for 2pt's other then maybe they had a play they wanted to work on."

Yeah he is. I moved Schumacher to WR1 and Cashman is #2, so we have alot of plays that run Manzo over the middle and he has legit speed that helps him get a step on the LB's trying to cover him. Schumacher is struggling against the best CB on the other team. To be honest, I might move Schumacher back to the #3 and see what happens. I would love for him to try and top his 23 TD's from last year.

What I do with Branch to keep him from always being matched up against the top corner is have him be the #1 slot receiver, but also the #1 receiver on the depth chart. That way in 2WR lineups he's still on the field, but with 3 or more he lines up in the slot. Then plays designed with the RB or TE in the slot he kicks back outside.
