    WEEK 9 RECRUITING UPDATE

    TEXAS TECH

It was just 3 weeks ago that Texas Tech and Coach Scott were talking to 13-5* Recruits about joining the Red Raiders hunt for title #2.

Well 2 of those 13 said yes. 8 others have declined and will be taking their services elsewhere.. Here is a look some of them.

5* QB Garrison Irving (#28 Overall/#1 AZ/#7 QB) from Peoria Arizona was the first one to say yes.. In turn that meant fellow 5* QB Alani Levrone (#16 Overall/#3 TX/#3 QB) said "No" as he will take his services to Austin and the Texas Longhorns..

    5* Athlete Antwain Allgier (#11 Overall/#1 OK/#1 ATH)
will be joining Irving in Lubbock. Alliger is listed at 6'3 263lbs and is probably best slated for DE/OLB..

Well Allgier said yes, CB John Baggett (#8 Overall/Ohio State), fellow DE Enrique Stoneburner (#22 Overall/Oklahoma) and LG Marco Poujade (#24 Overall TCU) all said no.

This left 3 players still undecided.

DE Damien Bettis (#6 Overall/#2 FL/#1 DE) still has TTU listed #2, with a Week 10 visit scheduled for Lubbock.. He will visit FSU this Week, the Seminoles are #3 on this list with Iowa State currently still #1 with a Week 12 visit scheduled with the Cyclones.

FS Stefon Freeland (#7 Overall/#1 TX/#1 FS) still has TTU #1 and has a Week 10 visit scheduled as well, but Freeland is keeping his options open with Texas #2 (Visit in Week 11), Baylor #3 (visiting this week) and K-State #4 (visiting Week 13)

WR Rico Hatfield (#10 Overall/#2 TX/#1 WR) still has TTU #1 and also has a Week 10 visit scheduled, well narrowing his schools down to a Final 3. Oklahoma is #2 and currently has him scheduled for Week 12, well North Texas is #3 and will host him this week (Week 9), as the Mean Green hope to secure his commitment before he ever gets to Lubbock.

Despite signing 2-5* players, 247 Sports currently has the TTU class ranked #83 Overall with 49.75 pts.

Well TTU has just 2 players committed, several schools have already hit double digits. including the entire Top-10 currently.

Georgia holds the #1 spot with 15 signings (1-5*,13-4* and 1-3*)

Miami holds the #2 spot with the most 5* signings (3) as well as 9-4*

    Notre Dame is #3 (12 signings, 1-5*,11-4*)
    TCU is #4 (12 signings, 1-5*, 10-4*, 1-3*)
    Penn State is #5 (11 signings, 2-5*, 9-4*)
    Michigan is #6 (11 signings, 1-5*, 10-4*)
    USC is #7 (11 signings, 1 -5*, 10-4*)
    Oregon is #8 (11 signings, 1-5*, 9-4*, 1-3*)
    Arizona State is #9 (11 signings-1-5*, 5-4*,4-3*,1-2*)
    Kentucky is #10 (12 signings, 4-4*, 7-3*,1-2*)
    Alabama is #11 (9-4*)
    FAU is #12 (14 signings, 1-4*, 10-3*, 3-2*)
    Nebraska is #13 (8 signings, 1-5*, 6-4*, 1-3*)

*USF is currently #20. They have the most signings so far with 18 (2-3* and 16-2*)

This year's #1 Overall is 5* QB Tyrone Russ from Vacaville CA. Russ had scholarship offers from Stanford, Washington, Oregon, USC, Illinois as well as many more but currently has his list narrowed to 3 schools. #1 Stanford, #2 Washington and # Oregon.

Besides, Irving and Levrone, 5* QB Geroge Kumerow (#25 Overall/#6 QB) has also signed (Penn State).

The Top-3 RB's have all signed. 5* J. Cherry (Notre Dame, TTU finished #2), 5* Johnnie Haas (Michigan) and 4* Max Peters (Auburn).

Man.... that game had to be nerve-racking. Had me just reading it. Feel sorry for A&M. They will be getting the wrath next week. Nice pick-ups in recruiting, though. Seems the team is starting to come together, and depth is just starting to pile up.

I honestly have never had a game in all my years of playing where I felt like when it was finished, that the CPU had done everything they could to beat me. I wish I would've taken a video of the fumbles and some of the INT's. It was unreal.. I also can't say I have ever been called for double digits penalties well the CPU gets 2. My sliders didn't change.. It also didn't help that the crowd level was so loud that over 80% of the game I had no clue if I was picking the right receiver. I think its a huge reason why my TE led the team in receptions

Played both the TAMU game and my Oklahoma game. Don't want to spoil it but yeah the Wrath didn't come out against TAMU on the scoreboard, but my TV and controller almost felt it...

          4TH QUARTER COMEBACK!!!

3 weeks ago this matchup was getting more press, with TTU ranked #1 and TAMU ranked #9. But loss's by both teams (TTU to Nebraska and TAMU to K-State saw this matchup as #9 vs #14.. But honestly rankings and records can be thrown out the window when these 2 teams meet.

TTU jumped out to a early (7-0) lead, as in Play 1, as GNK hits Eric Shumacher on a 84 yd bomb to open the game. But like the game against the Cornhuskers last week, INT's would plague GNK in the 1st half as the throws 2 as the Aggies score 10 unanswered to close out the half leading (10-7). INT's made an appearance again in the 3rd Quarter as GNK throws #3 and SO QB Kevin Coronado (75) throws his 1st. as the score remains (10-7) going into the 4th.

After basically 3 quarters of scoreless offense, GNK would snap out of his funk, throwing a pair of scores hitting both Schumacher and Manzo for touchdowns to give TTU the (21-10) lead midway through the 4th.

But Coronado would fire back leading the Aggies on a pair of touchdowns himself to give TAMU the (23-21) lead with 2 minutes to play.

Despite a 3 INT on the day, GNK would lead the perfect 2 minute offense completing 5/6 pass's to set up SO PK Kenn Bean for a 41 yd FG that gives TTU the lead and the victory.

Coronado finished the day just 10/25 (40%) with 117yds with 2 TD, 1 INT passing and 16 yds and 1 TD on the ground.

          FINAL SCORE TTU-24 TAMU-21

          KEY PLAYERS

          QB GNK-24/34 (70%) 329 yds 3 TD 3 INT, sacked twice, 32 yds rushing
          RB K. Enis-12 carries 26 yds 1 Fumble
          RB M. Dolegala-3 carries 21 yds
          RB S. Trejo-5 carries 7 yds, 3 rec 18 yds
          WR E. Schumacher-4 rec 109 yds 2 TD
          WR A. Manzo-5 rec 85 yds 1 TD
          WR M. Cashman-7 rec 81 yds
          TE T. Kugbila-3 rec 23 yds

          IINJURY REPORT

RB Sal Trejo was hurt midway through the 2nd Quarter, status is he should return next week against Oklahoma. Also CB D. Fowler and MLB D. Vanover are both cleared to return to action next week, leaving just FS Keke Guy and OLB Carlos Green out.

          TOP-25

With the win, TTU moves to #5.

GNK's picks have been on the rise, hopefully he can calm down and it doesn't bite you when it counts.

But he did what he's supposed to do in leading the game winning drive. Nice win overall

TTU WINS BIG IN FRONT OF KEY RECRUITS!!

Well the Oklahoma vs Texas Tech matchup doesn't have a cool rivalry tradition like the Battle for the Saddle or the Chancellors Spurs, or even a cool name like the Red River Shootout, the game does mean more then your typical Week 10 conference matchup. One Oklahoma player when asked his opinion said it best "Texas Tech is just one of those teams you like to hate"

For TTU, the feelings are mutual and having Offensive Coordinator Clarence Pruitt leave TTU after last year's National Championship to join the Sooners staff added some extra fuel to the fire.

Texas Tech opened up the game with a 11 play drive capped off by a 4 yd TD run by Sal Trejo who was back in action after missing the 2nd half of last weeks game. A pair of Juan Maramarosa (86 Ovr) INT's would lead to the a pair of touchdowns from GNK 1 with his feet (30 yds) and the other with his arm as TTU takes a (21-0) lead.

The Sooners would battle back though as Maramarosa throws a 30 strike to JR WR R. Kennison (85 Ovr) to make it (21-7) at the half.

Oklahoma opened up the 2nd half with the ball and Maramarosa went back to work leading the Sooners down the field capped off with a 9 yd TD to Esteban Kalil (84 Ovr) to make it (21-14), then after a GNK INT the Sooners would add 3 more to the scoreboard to make it (21-17).

GNK however would bounce back from his INT with a pair of Touchdown throws to SR Miguel Cashman to extend the Red Raiders lead to (35-17) as we head to the 4th.

Oklahoma got back on the board as Maramarosa dives in from 5yds out to cut the lead to (35-24) and then after another GNK INT, the Sooners cut the lead to (35-31) with just over 4 minutes to play.

Again GNK would bounce though as he connects with Adrian Manzo for a 2nd time today to extend the lead back to 2 scores (42-31). Then after a huge stop on 4th down, GNK would take back over finding Manzo for TD #3 on the day as TTU cruises to the win with 6 recruits on the sidelines watching the victory in person.

              FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-49 OKLAHOMA-31

              KEY PLAYERS

              QB GNK-27/34 322 yds 5 TD 2 INT, 10 carries 69 yds 1 TD
              RB S. Trejo-12 carries 33 yds 1 TD 1 Fumble
              RB K. Enis-5 carries 29 yds
              WR E. Schumacher-5 rec 98 yds
              WR A. Manzo-6 rec 83 yds 3 TD
              WR M. Cashman-6 rec 41 yds 2 TD
              WR S. Finau-5 rec 34 yds
              TE T. Kugbila-4 rec 63 yds

              INJURY UPDATE

#2 WR Miguel Cashman's season is most likely done. He is out 7-8 weeks with a Partial PCL Tear. He could come back for the playoffs, if TTU continues to win and make it back, especially with a potential 1st Roud Bye.

Cashman a Offensive Team Captain had 44 rec for 561 yds and 5 TD after posting 61 rec for 1001 yds and 9 TD last season.

With Cashman out, the current plan is to leave Adrian Manzo in the #3 slot, promoting SO Salesi Finau to the #2 spot. Finau has 15 rec for 124 yds and 1 TD on the season. TTU might also use SR Randal Burks (77) who has yet to record a catch this season.

WITH THE WIN (8-1) TTU MOVES UP TO #3 IN THE THE POLLS. THE RED RAIDERS ARE BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN IN WEEK 11 AS THEY HEAD TO AUSTIN TO TAKE ON THE (7-2) #12 TEXAS LONGHORNS.

Both the Nebraska game and TAMU game was tough cause the crowds are considered the best in the game and were causing issues with being able to see the receivers routes and of course it didn't help getting called for 14 penalties against the Cornhuskers. Sadly the INT's all but killed his Heisman campaign. He isn't even in the Top-5 anymore. His yards (2826) are 5th in the nation and he is tied with Hollenback (Vol's QB) with 33 TD's, but Hollenback has 1 INT vs GNK's 14 which is tied for the 2nd worst in the nation. Only ULM QB SR J. Marrero (17) has more.

TTU TAKES THE LEAD. LUBBOCK BEING A 5* CITY!!!

After the Red Raiders win Saturday over Oklahoma, Coach Scott and Texas Tech got 2 more huge commitments for next season.

5* WR Rico Hatfield (#10 Overall/#2 TX/#1 WR) from Agrgyle Texas is skipping his Week 12 visit to Norman as he signs on the dotted line.

Joining him is 5* FG Stefon Freeland (#7 Overall/#1 TX/#1 FS) from Carthage Texas. Freeland had a Week visit scheduled his week with the Longhorns in Austin but will no longer be making the trip.

Well Hatfield and Freeland are joining TTU, 3 other key recruits announced they are not.

5* DE Damien Bettis (#6 Overall/#2 FL/#1 DE) has signed with Iowa State. Fellow 4* DE Travis Breida (#33 Overall/#5 TX/#4 DE) has announced his decision to sign with SMU. 4* TE Ben Officer (#40 Overall/#7 TX/#2 TE is signing with TCU..

TTU's current class despite 4-5* is only ranked #47

                    WEEK 10 PROJECTED PLAYOFF SEEDS

#1 Georgia (9-0) continues their strong hold ono the #1 seeding..

                    #2 Michigan (9-0) is currently seeded #2

#4 Maryland (9-0) is currently the #3 seed

#8 Tennessee(9-0) currently is projected as the #4.

#3 Texas Tech (8-1) is currently the #5 seed and it appears they will face a familiar opponent.

4 weeks ago Boise State was rumored to have Coach Spencer Danielson on the hotseat but the Broncos have won 4 straight including wins over Top-25 ranked Oregon and UCLA, climbing to a 6-3 record and the potential #12 seed despite being #19 in the National polls.

#5 Miami FL (8-1) is currently scheduled as the #6 seed. They will face #11 (8-1) Michigan State.

#7 West Virginia (9-0) is ranked #6 but could have to settle for the #7 seed. They are currently scheduled to take on #10 (7-2) Penn State.

#7 (8-1) Arkansas would love the opportunity to beat #9 (9-1) Georgia Tech.

                        BATTLE FOR THE 12!!!

The Texas-Texas Tech Battle for the Chancellor Spurs dates back to 1928 and the tradition still lives on today, but today's matchup of #3 TTU vs #12 Texas had more on the line for the 2nd straight year.. The Longhorns beat the Red Raiders last year and along with won their spot in the Conference Championship vs TCU. With both teams entering today's game at (4-1) in Big 12 play the Division crown as up for grabs yet again. For Texas a spot in the College Football playoffs is also most likely on the line as the Longhorns can't afford a 3rd loss on the season.

                        GAME RECAP

Texas Tech jumped out to the early lead as GNK finds Adrian Manzo for his 14th TD of the season. TTU would then later add a 31 yd FG by Kenny Bean to make it (10-0) at the end of 1 Quarter of play.

Texas would hit the scoreboard early and often in the 2nd Quarter as SR QB Davarius Loyd(86 Ovr) connects on a pair of TD's to give the Longhorns the lead (14-10, but TTU would battle back as GNK throws 2 TD's as well hitting Eric Schumacher on both to give Texas Tech the (24-14) lead with under 2 minutes to play. A Rashard Livings (82 Ovr) fumble would give the ball back to the Red Raiders in scoring position but a GNK INT ended any thoughts of adding to the lead, and instead led to a 44 yd FG by Texas to end the half (24-17).

Texas opened up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly scored to tie the game (24-24) which is where it stayed as we head to the 4th. TTU would loose JR WR Adrian Manzo early in the 3rd Quarter with what was later disclosed as a Broken Wrist. Manzo is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Texas opened up the 4th by scoring on a 40 yd Jet Sweep by SR WR Kevin Chickillo (90 ovr) to take the lead (31-24) but Texas Tech answered back as as GNK finds backup WR SR Randall Burks for his 1st TD of the season (25 yds) as TTU ties the game up (31-31).

A Loyd INT late in the 4th allowed for TTU to try and win the game in regulation but Bean's 52 yd attempt fell short.

                        Coach Scott
"We knew it was probably out of Kenny Bean's abilities, but he does have a 50 yd kick in his career, but the wind wasn't really in our favor"
Texas Tech would win the toss and elect to play Defense. Texas opened up their series with a trio of runs, but the TTU D comes up big stopping the Longhorns on a 3rd and 2 forcing the FG.

For TTU a touchdown would win the game and GNK wasted no time as he hits RS FR Glen Ingold for his 1st career TD.. Ingold (the former 3* from Seattle WA) would finish the game with a career high 5 receptions for 42 yds.

                        FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-37 TEXAS-34

                        TTU STAYS AT #3

With the win TTU secures the #1 spot in the division with 2 games to play and stays at #3 in the Top-25 poll. The win also changed the playoff seeding projections with Texas Tech now projected to claim a Top-4 seed and 1st Round Bye.

                        MANZO OUT

With Adrian Manzo joining Miguel Cashman on the IR for the rest of the season, Coach Scott will have to get created with his WR room. Rumors are backup QB Nate Sun could see some action at WR this week against Oklahoma State, as he is currently listed as the Red Raiders #5 WR.

Manzo was leading the team with 52 rec for a team high 942 yds and a team leading 14 TD's.

With Cashman and Manzo out, TE Trevor Kugbila (39 rec 455 yds 4 TD) is the only receiver with more then 17 receptions besides #1 WR Eric Schumacher (43 rec 777 yds 12 TD).

losing manzo for the rest of the season hurts. Schumaker is going to have to step up big to keep the Raiders rolling

For sure. When Cashman went down, I was like okay, no big deal, this will give me a chance to see some of the depth that will be fighting for the #3/4 job next year. Then Manzo get's hurt and all of a sudden I am looking at my depth chart and I am like holy crap my backup QB is better at WR then some of the guy's I have to consider playing, so Nate Sun is officially getting on the field for the Oklahoma State game just not behind center. There is a chance both Cashman and Manzo could return for the National Title game because they are currently 5 and 6 weeks out, but I have Baylor, then a Week 14 Bye, then the Big 12 Title game, then potentially 1st Bye week if I get a Top-4 seed.

                              THE SUN SHINES IN TEXAS!!!

When former 3* Athlete Nate Sun arrived on campus, the former coaching staff made him a QB. Sun a nature athlete did it all at Frisco High. Sun's debut at QB didn't go so well last season, playing in Week 1 he completed just 2/6 pass's for 22 yds well throwing a INT and getting sacked twice. Since then he has watched GNK throw for close to 10000 yards and over 100 TD's, cementing the rest of his career as QB2. Well today, the Sun came out lining up as WR2..

                              GAME RECAP

Sun made is presence know early catching the first pass of the day for a 8 yd game and then later in the 1st it was Sun catching his 1st career TD as a Red Raider as he puts TTU up (7-0) in the 1st Quarter.

Sun and Texas Tech wasn't done. TTU went on to score 24 unanswered points including Nate Sun's 2nd TD of the day, in the 2nd Quarter taking a commanding (31-0) lead with less then a minute to play and the offense was still out on the field, until SR CB Eli Vilian (80 Ovr) snagged a INT on a pass in the redzone intended for Sun. Vilian would take it back 101 yds for the Pick 6 getting the Cowboys on the scoreboard as the 1st half comes to a close (31-7).

After dominating the 1st Half, the TTU offense would struggle in the 3rd Quarter as they settle for a 31 yd FG by Punter Tyler Pride who had to take over FG duties after PK Kenny Bean was hurt on a earlier miss FG to make it (34-7)..

OSU continued to send out their punt team who saw plenty of action in the 1st half but with 1:32 to play OSU finally found the endzone as SR QB Darren Longacre (79 Ovr) (decent name) finds JR WR Tre'Vante Veal (75 Ovr) on a 53 yd yard pass and catch. OSU would leave the offense on the field for the 2pt play to make it (34-15)

Texas Tech would open the 4th Quarter scoring with yet another FG by Pride (32 yds) as we learn that PK Kenny Bean will miss the remainder of the season with a Dislocated Ankle. Bean just a Sophomore was 11/15 this year (73%) and had made 54/55 XP.

Leading (37-15), some wondered if Coach Scott would pull his starters but Oklahoma State answered that question real quick as the Longacre finds his SR TE R. Diaz for the score. Again OSU would convert the 2pt play making it (37-23). OSU then surprised TTU with a early onside kick attempt but Sun playing on the return team makes the recovery.

TTU would look to just run out some clock and they did a pretty good job taking it all the way down to the 2 yd line to set up a First and Goal. Kenyon Enis was stuffed for a 2 yd loss on 1st Down, Sal Trejo took the next handoff and got stood up on the goal line bringing up a 3rd and 1. Trejo took the handoff and plunged forward, but the ball popped out as OSU recovers and rumbles 52 yds before GNK tackles the defender.

Longarce already with 2 TD's on the day then finds SR WR Tyler Pinerio (73 Ovr) on a 38 yd strike to make it (37-29). OSU would connect on the XPT making it (37-30) with 2:02 to play. Again the Cowboys would attempt the onside kick but the TTU hands team was ready..

TTU opened up the drive with a 3 yd run by Enis to bring up the 2 minute warning. A 8 yd pass gave TTU the 1st Down as OSU is forced to burn their 1st timeout, A 3 yd run by Trejo forces Timeout #2 and its followed up by a 5 yd run by Enis for Timeout #3. Facing a 3rd and 2, GNK keeps the ball himself as he slides in bounds to keep the clock rolling. Most of the fans started to file out as many assumed TTU would just run out the clock, but GNK wasn't done, as GNK throws TD #5 hitting Eric Schumacher for the 26 yd score. For Schumacher it was his 11th reception of the game and his 2nd TD of the game.

                              FINAL SCORE TTU-44 OSU-30

TTU STAYS #3 NOW PROJECTED #3 SEED

TTU now (10-1) on the season holds strong at #3 in all 3 poll's this week and now in the latest playoff seeding projections have earned the #3 seeding and a 1st Round Bye, as they will play the winner of the #6/#11 matchup in the Fiesta Bowl.

                              TTU LOCKS UP THE DIVISION

The Red Raiders still have (4-7, 1-6) Baylor next week to close out the regular season as TTU honors it's 17 Seniors for "Senior Night" The Bears despite their record I am sure will bring their best efforts to try and pull a upset. However even if TTU loses, they will share the Division Crown at worst with the Longhorns but will head to the Big 12 title game holding the tiebreaker win over Texas in Week 11.

                                PUTTING IN THE WORK!!!

"Out Work Everyone" has been a Motto of TTU before Coach Scott arrived in Lubbock but it was something he wanted this team to continue to believe in. In Year 1 the team bought in as Coach Scott lead the School to it's first ever National Title. Then after the season was over Scott continued to put in the Overtime as he brought in the #5 Overall Class in the nation landing some of the nations Top 5* Recruits including #1 Overall LT Deontay Meyers who has so far started 10 games recording 707 snaps, CB Matt Sorah who is 4th on the team with 48 Tackles and leads the team in Pass Deflections with 7 since taking over as CB1.

Scott hasn't stopped there. Scott continues to prove to the nation, he can recruit with the best of them as he secures 4 early commitments this season from 4 more 5* recruits (currently the most of any school) and now we are here to announce he has landed 4 more verbal's as TTU moves up to #23 in the nation despite only 8 players signing.

Leading the way is a Trio of 4*'s all ranked in the Top-100

OLB Anthony Saaveda (#39 Overall/#6 TX/#1 OLB) from Missouri Texas, looks to be potentially a Day 1 starter. He had scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Houston, Texas and K-State.

DE Quantavious Rozeboom (#45 Overall/#8 TX,#5 DE) from DeSoto TX is listed at 6'4 290lbs and could see a move to DT in his future. Rozeboom had scholarship offers from both Arkansas and Texas and is skipping previous scheduled visits to commit early.

FS Paul Brownlee (#97 Overall/#14 TX/#5 FS) is from Waxachie TX. Listed at 6'1 203lbs, Brownlee could potentially start at SS next season next to 5* Stefon Freeland and along with Sorah gives TTU a deadly and talented secondary for the next 3-4 years.

With 3 Wide Receivers graduating and TTU currently lacking in depth with backup QB Nate Sun joining the WR room, adding more depth became key. Despite 5* Rico Hatfield already signed, Coach Scott went looking for some talent in a deep WR class and he found a good one in 3* Eric Lopes (Green Gem)

The 6'3 189lb Lopes is from Rosenburg TX and was rated just #524 Overall and the #71 WR in this year class.

                                Coach Scott
"I believe this kid was overlooked by alot of schools and I think alot of coaches are going to be kicking themsevles after they see the kind of career he has here at Texas Tech. Our program loves 3* WR's. Schumacher was one, Manzo was one, Finau was one, and Ingold was one. We also have 3 currently redshirting this season that will push for a potentially for a #3/4/#5 role next season, but let me tell you Lopes could be good enough to skip his redshirt year and play Day 1 for us. In fact I might even go as far to say he could have a better career then Rico and could even push Crabtree as one of the best to play here"
With 8 players signed, Coach Scott currently has 10 players left we are told on his target list before potentially adding some transfer portal players late in the off-season..

                                Coach Scott
"I said at the beginning of the year. We had 17 Seniors, and typically always leave 5-6 more scholarships available because of the Portal. Those are still are target #'s. Last year we signed a few extra guy's as we made the push for a Top-5 class.. Well we would love another Top-5 class, we are not going to just cut players to open up more scholarships."
