RED RAIDERS UPSET BUFF'S IN BOULDER!!

It's been a rough start for the former Top-25 ranked Buffalo's. Colorado dropped their Week 1 opener to UMass (28-14) and then moved to 0-2 on the season with a loss to Texas Tech in Week 2 as Coach Scott picks up his 1st career win over a Top-25 program as a Head Coach.

    Scott
"It feels good to get #1.. I mean I have had alot of success as a OC winning big games, but it felt sort nice, almost like getting some revenge handing the Buff's another loss and starting out 2-0 is better then I could have imagined"
TTU's offense continued to struggle in the 1st Quarter as they manage just 3 points on a Wade Eckert FG but the Defense comes up huge once again holding the Buffalo's scoreless as TTU takes the (3-0) lead into the 2nd Quarter.

Texas Tech would extend the lead to (10-0) as GNK throws what would be the first of 3 TD's on the day and then after another Eckert FG making it (13-0) GNK was back at it hitting WR Miguel Cashman for his 2nd TD of the game. Coach Scott left the offense on the field and GNK converts making it (21-0).

Colorado would finally get on the scoreboard kicking a 49 yd FG to make it (21-3) and then after a GNK INT the Buff's would strike with their only TD of the day to make it (21-10) at the half.

GNK opened up the 2nd half with his 3rd TD of the day finding JR WR Erick Schumacher for the 17 yd score to make it (28-10) but another INT later in the quarter would kill another scoring opportunity. TTU and Coach McCardell's Defense however played well against the no huddle offense led by SO QB Tory Tobias (84 Ovr). as they sack the QB 4 times and hold him to just 197 yds on the day.

2 more GNK INT's would limit TTU's scoring opportunities but as both teams settle for 3 points each in the 4th.

    FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-31 COLORADO-16

    KEY PLAYERS
    QB GNK-20/37 (54%) 300 yds 3 TD 4 INT, sacked 6 times.
    RB K. Enis-15 carries 99 yds
    RB M. Dolegala-15 carries 56 yds
    WR M. Cashman-5 rec 173 yds 2 TD (1 from 67 yds out)
    WR E. Schumaker-4 rec 38 yds 1 TD
    WR C. Myers-2 rec 33 yds
WR LJ Johnson-4 rec 21 yds
    TE T. Kugbila-3 rec 26 yds

CB1 I. Collins led the team with 11 Tackles

    Coach Scott
"I said last week we need more yards through the air and some big plays and GNK delivered both with 300 yds and a 67 yd bomb to Cashman, but our O-Line play tonight was horrible in the passing game. The Buff's got credit for 6 sacks and picked off GNK 4 times but 3 of those were because he was forced to make the throw with not having enough time to make the right reads. Also 4 holding penalty's is unacceptable. I am proud of our Defense tonight, our D-Line was hit hard by injuries but the team pulled together and some backups we didn't expect to see much action made some big plays."

    INJURY NEWS

TTU lost 3 members from the Defense tonight. Starting DT R. Pippen (82) is out for 3-4 weeks with a Partial PCL tear. Starting MLB B. Gibbs (76) is out 3-4 weeks with a Broken Thumb and backup DT G. Lekkerkerker (75) is out 3 weeks with a Pulled Groin.

    UP NEXT
Texas Tech will take on Wyoming in Week 3. The Cowboys are off to a 2-0 start with a (59-0) win over South Dakota State (FCS) in Week 1 and a (13-6) win vs Akron in Week 2.

      RED RAIDERS MOVE TO 3-0!!!

517 Yards of Total Offense, 28 1st Downs,432 yds Passing leads to a perfect 3-0 start to Coach Scott's career in Lubbock. You would think he would be happy, but he is not...

Why you ask? Well all of the above stats are great, Coach Scott is pissed about 2 others and those are 5 Turnovers and 7 Penalties for 60 yds.

TTU led (7-6) and the end of the 1st Quarter and (17-9) at the end of the half as they held the Cowboys to just 3 FG's.

The TTU Defense playing in a new 3-2-6 playbook for most of the game with a depleted D-Line and a already depth lacking Linebacker core continued to put in work holding Wyoming to just 174 yds on the day.

After a somewhat sluggish start TTU would find the endzone twice in the 3rd Quarter coming up with a huge play as RB Kenyon Enis lines up in the Wildcat and pitches to fellow RB Mateo Dolegala who takes it 45 yds for the score. The stat book gives Enis credit for a pass making the RS SO 1/1 on the season. The Defense also came up big recording a safety on the Cowboys putting 2 points on the scoreboard.

Leading (33-9) in the 4th Coach Scott would pull GNK and insert #2 QB Nate Sun as the Redshirt Sophomore see's his first live action. Sun would complete his first pass for 22 yds to his own teammate but pass #2 was into the hands of a Cowboy Defender who takes it 101 yds for the Pick 6 INT to make it (33-16).

      Coach Scott
"We had it 3rd and Goal from the 2 yd line. In hindsight we should've just tried to run it but I felt like we drew up a solid play, but the Cowboys came up with a big catch and in the excitement the defender left the endzone and our guy's didn't make much of a effort to tackle him"
Things went from bad to worse for Sun on his 2nd series, as the QB this time fumbles the ball, and SS Manny Williams (86 Ovr) is all over it as he scoops up the ball and runs it 82 yds for the score..

Wyoming now trailing (33-23) with 2:48 to play would try for the onside kick but Myers secures the ball as TTU takes the field. 3rd string QB Vai Motuapuaka leads the offense. But Coach Scott was done watching his team turn over the ball, as Motuapuaka hands off to Enis 6 times forcing Wyoming to burn all 3 timeouts before taking a knee to end the game.

      FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-33 WYOMING-23

      KEY PLAYERS
      QB GNK-28/43 (65%) 365 yds 2 TD 3 INT sacked twice
      QB N. Sun-2/6 (33%) 22 yds 1 INT,1 Fumble sacked 2 times.
      RB K. Enis 1/1 45 yds 1 TD, 27 carries 109 yds 1 TD
      RB M. Dolegala-1 carry 5 yds, 1 rec 45 yds 1 TD
WR LJ Johnson-5 rec 110 yds 1 TD
      WR C. Myers-6 rec 106 yds 1 TD
      WR M. Cashman-6 rec 43 yds
      WR E. Schumacher-5 rec 34 yds
      TE T. Kugbila-4 rec 48 yds
      TE D. Frost-2 rec 33 yds
TTU Defense had 11 TFL, 4.5 Sacks and SS P. Morgan had a INT in the endzone to kill what could've been a 3rd TD by the Cowboy's in the 4th Quarter.

      Coach Scott
"There was alot of things that happened in this game that I liked and there was alot of things I didn't. GNK now has 7 TD's on the season to go with 8 INT's. Sun didn't exactly show us he is capable of running the offense if something was to happen long term and our Defense isn't going to be able to continue to carry us like they have the past 3 games. They are beat up and we are running out of guy's to put out there"
      INJURY REPORT

The TTU Medical staff is putting in some Overtime as 2 more players hit the IR. Starting DE Branden McGhee (86 Ovr) is out for the next 9 weeks with a Partial PCL Tear and backup DE Gill Hendrik (71) is out for 2 weeks with a Torn Labrum.

With the slew of injuries, Coach Scott will have to consider pulling the Redshirt off FR DE Adrian Stick (75) or FR DT Sean Robinson (75) or possibly both..

      UP NEXT

TTU WILL HAVE WEEK 4 OFF BEFORE RETURNING TO ACTION IN WEEK 5 VS ARIZONA. THE WILDCATS ARE OFF TO A HORRIBLE START GOING 0-3 TO START THE YEAR WITH A WEEK 1 LOSS TO WASHINGTON STATE (21-17) ON THE ROAD THEN A (28-26) LOSS TO BALL STATE AT HOME IN WEEK 2 FOLLOWED BY A (51-17) LOSS TO NEBRASKA IN WEEK 3.

GNK got a little Favre in him lol

ive noticed once the first interception is thrown, especially with a lower AWR qb, the 2nd and the 3rd come quick

SOLD OUT CROWD CHEERS TTU TO VICTORY!!

TTU fans where in full force on Saturday to watch their 3-0 Texas Tech Red Raiders take on (1-3) Arizona at Jones AT&T in what turned out to be a good old fashion shootout, as the 2 teams combined for 750 yards of Total Offense including a combined 656 yds through the Air with a total of 9 scores.

Arizona despite their (1-3) start (they beat Air Force in Week 4, 49 to 7) like Texas Tech have one of the Best young QB's in the nation. SO Kerry Cheek (78 Ovr) showed off his skills last year playing in 5 games throwing for 1333 yds with 16 TD and 4 INT. Entering today's game, despite a (1-3) record Cheek already had 1346 yds with 10 TD and just 1 INT.

          Coach Scott
"Kerry was a huge reason why I even went to Tuscon for a Interview last season before taking the job here in Lubbock. The kid is the real deal"
Reports are part of the reason Coach Scott left Arizona without taking the job was because of a conversation he had with Wildcat's star RB M. Glenn (93 Ovr). Glenn said he would transfer if Coach Scott took the job because he didn't feel like his play calling was going to help him reach his full potential at the NFL level. (when I took the job and messed around with recruiting he actually went in the portal). It didn't matter in the end because after Coach Scott signed on with TTU, Glenn announced he was leaving Arizona early and joined the NFL draft (ended up going 3rd round).

          GAME RECAP

Tied (7-7) after 1 Quarter of play, and tied again (14-14) as both QB's match score for score, TTU would take a (21-14) lead into the half as GNK throws touchdown #3 to SR WR LJ Johnson..

Texas Tech would open up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly extended their lead to (28-14) as GNK throws TD #4 hitting JR WR Miguel Cashman for his 2nd TD catch of the day.

Arizona answers back though as Cheek fires his 3rd TD of the day hitting SR WR T. Fisher (82 Ovr) on a 76 yd bomb to make it (28-21)..

GNK almost perfect on the day so far (no INT and 17/21 fires back with his own big play just 1 play later as he hits JR WR Erick Schumacher for a 74 yd bomb to make it (35-21)

After 3 Quarters of steller play the 4th Quarter, GNK reverted back to his earlier season play as he completes just 4/9 pass's including a INT that leads to another Wildcat touchdown as Cheek throws TD #4 to make it (35-28).

Coach Scott was done throwing the ball for the day as he served the Wildcat Defense with a healthy dose of Keynon Enis despite his limited success (12 carries 20 yds (1.7 avg) as the Red Raiders hold on for the win.

Arizona QB Kerry Cheek finished the day 16/30 for 323 yds with 4 TD.

          FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-35 ARIZONA-28

          KEY PLAYERS

          QB GNK-21/30 (70%) 333 yds 5 TD 1 INT, 35 yds rushing
          WR E. Schumacher-2 rec 143 yds 2 TD
          WR M. Cashmans-8 rec 107 yds 2 TD
WR LJ Johnson-2 rec 14 yds 1 TD
          WR C. Myers-3 rec 28 yds
          TE T. Kulgbila-2 rec 21 yds

          INJURY REPORT

Well Texas Tech finally make it through a game without losing a Defensive player to injury, but that doesn't mean less work for the medical staff as TTU will be without both their starting Offensive Tackles next week for their matchup with TCU. JT LT Santiago Rome (79) is reported to have a dislocated elbow that will sideline him 1-2 weeks, but SR RT Jacob Ponton (79) career is over as he has a broken ankle that will sideline him for 20 weeks (5 months).

Reports are LG Miguel Best will move from LG to LT with JR John McNeil joining the starting lineup, well RS SO Devin Ashmore will take over at RT until Rome returns.

          UP NEXT

(4-0) TTU will travel to #5 (4-0) TCU in Week 5 for the "Battle of the Saddle"

These 2 schools have been playing each other since 1926 and the Battle of the Saddle was first awarded in 1961. Texas Tech leads the series with 33 wins vs 30 loss's but TCU is a heavy favorite to win this season, despite the Red Raiders hot start.

            WEEK 5 'THE BRAND" UPDATE

"The Brand" started back in 2020 as a all-access docu-series to give TTU and fans across the nation a inside look at Texas Tech Red Raider Football. We are bring in back starting this year with giving fan's a opportunity to ask Coach Scoot more in depth questions if they would like, with updates in Week 5,10 and 15 of each season as well as a Team preview episode at the start of each season.

Here is our first sit down with Coach Scott..

Interviewer- Coach Scott you guy's are off to the best start in TTU history winning your first 4 games of the season already matching last year's win total. How are you feeling about the season so far.

Scott- As proud as I am of my team and the start we have had so far, I am still not 100% happy because I know we could be even better.. We have been lucky so far but our luck is about to run out if we continue to play at the level we have been playing.

Interviewer- Coach you have talked about luck.. So far the team hasn't been very lucky when it comes to injuries. First you lost 3 starters on Defense and now you just lost 2 guy's from the starting O-Line. What kind of adjustments will you have to make.

Scott-Well we already made some against Arizona. Coach McCardell typically ran a 4-2-5 Defense in Wyoming and I was part of a 3-3-5 Defense well at BSU. We have adapted and have used a 3-2-6 Defense the past 2 games and honestly our team has been playing some pretty solid ball. Cheek still make some big plays for the Wildcats with 2 TD plays for over 70 yds each, but if you take away those 2 plays he finishes the day with like 200 yds passing and 2 TD's. We will make those adjustments. As far a the O-Line goes, our play has been sloppy all year between penallties (holding calls) to giving up huge sacks and forcing bad throws early. Hopefully the adjustments we make will allow this unit to gel and start playing line we know they are capable off.

Interviewer- Coach Scott when you arrived on campus you hired former North Texas OC Clairence Pruitt who was know for his Air Raid Offense with the Mean Green and you stated it was your desire to bring back the success that Coach Mike Leach had at TTU running the Air Raid as well.. So far you are middle of the pack with 1165 yds in 4 games through the air and are averaging just 30 points a game. Are you guy's sticking with the Air Raid or will we see something different this season from the offense?

Scott- Well I love the concept of the Air Raid, Coach Pruitt and I havn't really found a solid playbook that we both love. There are alot of schools the run a variation of the Air Raid, (Washington State, West Virginia, USC, Clemson, Oklahoma, Purdue, Miami FL NC State,,Colorado State, La Tech, Marshall, Western Kentucky even teams in our own conference like TCU, Baylor and still North Texas.. It's true we want to be known as a team that likes to throw the ball, we can't ignore the fact we got a couple of solid RB's on this team and Kenyon Enis (61 carries 246 yds (4.0 Avg) has shown us that he gives us a option to generate some yards on the ground. Even GNK has show the ability to make plays running the ball besides just running for his life. When I was at BSU we used a what I like to call a Multiple Offense Playbook and moving forward that is really what we will do. When our offense is clicking with the passing game, we will pass, when Enis and Dolegala are proving they can get us 4+ yds a carry then we will run. My goal is to known as a Air Raid Offense, my goal is to be one of the most feared Offenses in the game and be known as a team that scores points.. lots of points..

Interviewer- Coach So far this season GNK has done a pretty good job of spreading the ball around and not locking onto 1 particular WR despite his 9 INT's. Your BSU offense was well known for doing the same thing after having 3-1000 yd receivers the past 2 years at BSU and 3 out of 4 years there.. How does this team's WR core compare to your units at BSU.

Scott- The guy's we have this year are more balanced. At BSU we had big bodies 6'2-6'5 who could make plays over the opposing DB's. This year's unit We have 5'10 M. Cashman (22 rec 338 yds 5 TD), 5'10 LJ Johnson (15 rec 188 yds 2 TD), 6'2 E. Schumacher (14 rec 241 yds 3 TD) and 6'3 C. Myers (14 rec 191 yds 2 TD). These guy's are more know for their route running then for their physical size and big play potential.

Interviewer-Speaking of LJ Johnson. He is listed as your #1, yet has the fewest yards and only 1 more reception then your #4 Schumacher. Johnson excelled last year with 949 yds and had 1280 yds and 13 TD's as a SO after posting 735 yds and 9 TD as a true freshman. Rumor is he was thought to be a 3rd round pick last year had he left early. Do you think he regrets his decision not to leave.

Scott- It's true Johnson was thinking about leaving and I talked him out of it because I truly thought a year with me would make him better. I still think that and we still have alot of football games to prove it.

Interviewer-GNK's season so far has been mixed results despite a 4-0 record. Is he your QB for the next 4 years and do you think he can lead TTU to a National Title.

Scott- I am going to be completely honest.. There are times where GNK looks like a Patrick Mahomes, but as great as Patrick was, you have to remember he left TTU with a losing record and no bowl wins. For GNK to go down in TTU history we need him to have a season like BJ Symons or a career like Graham Harrell.

I love GNK potential but there is a reason why I am still recruiting 3 QB's in this year's glass despite having 5 guy's on my roster as FR or RS FR. I don't know yet if we have greatness on this squad.

Interviewer-Speaking of recruiting. You only have 9 Seniors on the roster and already have 84/85 roster spots filled. How many players do you plan on recruiting this season?

Scott- We are trying to take a quality over quantity approach this year. I personally would like to sign 15-16 guy's but honestly it's apparent we have guy's on our current roster who don't need to be on it next season. If we find the right guy who will make us better then we are not going to shy away from a 20+ recruit class. That's what the transfer portal is for. I understand these kids made a commitment to a former coach and sadly not always to the school. Obviously our hopes and hearts are to find kids that want to play here and play hard.

COACH SCOTT LANDS FIRST RECRUIT OF THE SEASON

With 3 of their first 4 games at home, Coach Scott used the early home schedule to bring in several top recruits to Lubbock during both the Wyoming game and Arizona game in Week 3 and 5, including 5* DE Ben Paulo (#16 Overall/#2 DE and #1 AZ) from Peoria Arizona. Paulo was impressed and has TTU #1 but so far is still committed to taking a visit with his #2 school Arizona State in Week 9, and a Week 7 visit to Colorado his #3 school for now.

5* DT Enrqiue Nunn (#5 Overall/#1 DT, #2 TX) from Austin was also on the sidelines for TTU's Week 5 victory and like Paula has TTU #1 but like Paulo still has a Week 9 visit scheduled with TCU.

Reports are 2 more 5* Recruits currently list TTU as their #1 school..

CB Matt Soroh (#10 Overall/#1 CB, #4 TX) from Lindale TX has a Week 8 visit scheduled, but still has scholarships from Texas, TCU, TAMU and Baylor with visits scheduled with both Baylor and the Aggies.

LT Deontay Meyers (#1 Overall/#1 LT/#1 TX) also has TTU #1 on his list but has yet to accept a formal invite to the school's campus keeping his options open. He has scholarship offers from LSU, Missouri, Ohio State , Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Georgia with those schools 2-8 on this Final 8 list.

              Coach Scott
"Obviously landing the #1 player in the country is a dream for any college coach, but to be able to land someone like Meyers despite the fact he is just a Offensive Lineman is a game changer for this program."
Well TTU has yet to secure the services of any 5* Recruits this season, Coach Scott did land his first 4* and he is a pretty good one.

4* DT Faitele Gash (#355 Overall/#18 DT and #5 HI). Gash was being recruited by USC, BSU, Cal and Utah.

              Coach Scott
"Despite being in Texas, I want to continue to put my Pacific Northwest (Pipeline) connections to good use. We are excited that Gash choose us. He had alot of options including BSU, so you now he has talent that other scouts saw (he is a Green gem)."

                TOP-25 WEEK 5 UPDATE

#1 Georgia continues to hold on to the top spot after a 4-0 start including on another big win over Top-25 ranked Cincinnati in Week 4.. The Bulldogs will take on (1-4) FAU in Week 6, but have #10 (4-1) LSU in Week 7 followed by #22 (5-0) Arkansas on the road in Week 8 followed by #4 (4-0) Auburn in Week 9 plus Alabama and Georgia Tech to close out the year.

#2 Nebraska is off to a perfect start yet again going 3-0 through Week 5 after finishing with a perfect season last year before their 2nd round loss in the CTP. Can they do it again?

#3 Wisconsin is also perfect at (4-0) but they face #18 (3-1) Ohio State in Columbus this week.

#4 (4-0) Auburn is coming off a big (44-3) win over USF. Can they do it again over UCF this week?

#5 (4-0) TCU is coming off a (38-0) shutout of Colorado State, but can they stay perfect and win the Saddle against rival Texas Tech who is also perfect on the season and at home in Jones AT&T.

#6 Boise State started their Defense of their back to back National Titles with a Week 1 loss to Cincinnati but have bounced back to win 3 straight moving to 3-1 as they get ready to start Pac-12 play hosting UCLA.

#7 (4-1) Michigan) also started their season with a loss but have won 4 straight going into Big Ten play including a (73-7) victory over some poor FCS program this past week. I am guessing #21 (5-0) Penn State will put up a more difficult fight.

#8 (4-0) Tennessee is still perfect after a (24-20) victory over Purdue. Next up is Northwestern...

#9 Florida lost in Week 1 as well but has won 3 straight (3-1) including a SEC win over Georgia Tech (20-10). They will face Alabama in the Swamp this week.

#10 (4-1) LSU is coming off a (31-24) win over FIU and will face G.T. this week before taking on #1 Georgia in Week 7

#12 (4-0) UConn. The Huskies once again are showing last season was no fluke as the Offense explodes with a (62-14) win over Temple.. They will take on Wake Forest this week.

#13 (3-1) Texas A&M. The Aggies are coming off a (55-10) win over East Carolina last week and start American Conference play vs Houston this week.

#14 (3-1) Texas. The Longhorns started American Conference play earlier already picking up a (17-14) win over SMU. They will play @ Baylor this week.

#15 (5-0) Oregon. The Ducks started the year ranked #25 and had some people laughing. Those people are not laughing any more after a perfect 5-0 start including a (35-3) win over Cal last week. They will face San Diego State this week looking for win #6.

#16 (4-1) Kansas State. The Wildcats fell to Tennessee State in Week 4 but rebounded with a nice win over instate rival Kansas (42-21). They face Oklahoma this week.

#17 (2-2) Iowa. They are one of 2 team in the Top-25 with 2 loss's, both coming to Top-25 ranked opponents (Wisconsin and K-State) They face Illinois this week.

#21 (5-0) Penn State. The Nittany Lions are off to a great start matching Oregon as the one of 3 teams in the country at 5-0 teams in the country but they put their perfect record on the line this week against #7 Michigan.

#22 (5-0) Arkansas is the last of the 3 (5-0) teams. Without knowing their schedule you might wonder just how good are the Hogs. Well they beat Top-25 ranked Notre Dame and former Top-25 ranked Miami both on the road.

#23 (4-1) Notre Dame. Speaking of the Irish, their only blemish is a loss to the Hogs who are ranked 1 spot ahead of them. Notre Dame takes on instate rival Indiana this week.

#24 (2-2) West Virginia, is the other 2 loss team still ranked. They fell to #8 Tennessee in Week 1 and then to #18 Ohio State this past week going from #19 to #24. They will play on the road this week @ Liberty.

#25 (3-1) Virginia. The Cavaliers had climbed all the way to #10 with a 3-0 start on the year but lost to Old Dominion 20-14 this past week. They will face Boston College this week.

**Washington fell out of the rankings from #23 and Rutgers was #24 last week they are also out. Despite a 4-0 start TTU has yet to receive any Top-25 votes**

MISTAKES WERE MADE AS TTU FALLS SHORT

#5 TCU stays perfect despite trailing most of the game as TTU makes some costly mistakes in the 4th Quarter as they come up short in their upset bid and a chance keeping the West Texas Championship Saddle here in Lubbock.

                  GAME RECAP

For a game that featured 857 Total Yards of Offense, we didn't see much scoring in the 1st Quarter as TTU takes a (3-0) lead into the 2nd. TCU would tie the game (3-3) with a FG of their own but Texas Tech answers back as Kenyn Enis punches in his 3rd TD of the season with a 1 yd run to make it (10-3) and then it was GNK finding LJ Johnson for a 6 yd score as the Red Raiders extend their lead to (17-3) with 1:53 to play in the half.

TCU however would manage a couple big plays of their own setting up a 39 yd FG by David Matlock with 5 seconds to play as the Horn Frogs go into the locker room down (17-6)

TTU opened up the 2nd half with the ball but a GNK INT quickly gave it back to the Frogs who once again had to settle for a 38 yd FG by Matlock making it (17-9).

GNK however would bounce back from his early INT to find TE Trevor Kugbila on a 32 yd bomb with 3:55 to pay in the 3rd making it (24-9). However with less then a minute to play in the 3rd, GNK would throw INT #2 and this time it would lead to TCU's Hauss Hejny finding Dozie Ezzukamna on a 52 yd pass and catch play as TCU cuts the lead to (24-16) as we head to the 4th.

GNK's 3rd INT of the day would lead to another Matlock FG (35 yds) as TCU cuts the lead to (24-19). If it was INT's killing drives it was Holding calls as the TTU O-Line once again is called for 6 penalties, leading to a forced punt as TCU takes over with just over 5 minutes to play.

The Horn Frogs who had just 29 yds rushing in the 1st half couldn't be stopped in the 2nd and this drive was no different as TCU runs 11 plays (9 rushes) covering 72 yds for the go ahead score as Nate Palmer scores from 1 yd out.. TCU would attempt the 2pt conversion leading by 1 but fail to convert making it (25-24) with just over 3 minutes to play..

With 3 2nd half INT's fresh in his mind GNK continued to look shaken on the final drive and on 3rd and down he takes a sack setting up a choice for Coach Scott. 4th and 16 or attempt a 56 yd FG with 1:58 to play... Scott put the ball in the hands of GNK as SR PK Wade Eckerts career long was 48 yds.

The Horn Frogs where ready and tip the intended pass for the Kugbila as TCU takes over on downs. Still armed with all 3 timouts, the ball game was now in the hands of a tired TTU Defense. A Defense that had already given up 140 yds in the 2nd half to the Frogs backfield... Make that now 160 yds as the Frogs pick up 20 yds on the final drive before kneeling on the final seconds of the clock.

                  FINAL SCORE #5 TCU-25 TTU-24

                  INJURY REPORT

Shocker another D-Lineman goes down as SR DE Branden McGhee (86 Ovr) season is most likely over (8 weeks) with another Partial PCL Tear.

The injury is forcing Coach Scott to once again remove a redshirt, this time from Freshman Adrian Stick (75 Ovr) who takes over as LE joining FR DT Sean Robinson (78 Ovr) who made his first start against TCU.

**I currently have Injuries set at 55, however I noticed that my injuries seem to be coming in games where the CPU Offense is running a no huddle and my guys are just gassed. I am not sure if I should just bump the sliders or figure out a way to sub in my backups more often.**

                  UP NEXT

Now (4-1) on the year TTU will take on (3-3) Texas State.

                  SIGNING UPDATE

Despite the loss, TTU did get some good news, as 5* DT Enrique Nunn signs leaving TCU to finish #2 in the recruiting process as he cancels his Week 9 visit.

                  Coach Scott
"TCU might have won the Battle for the Saddle today, but signing Nunn away from the Frogs is a sign that TTU is going to win the war."

Yeah GNK is a bit like that.. One moment he looks like Patrick Mahomes and the next he looks like Patrick from SpongeBob Square Pants.

Sadly no 5* yet only a 4* but I am excited to have 4 guys with TTU #1 on their list, so I feel like we have a pretty good shot at getting at least 1 of them.

                        A COSTLY "W"

The Texas Tech Red Raiders left San Marcos with a (5-1) record but it cost them dearly to do so.

Already missing both the teams Week 1 starters at Defense End, RT Jacob Ponton and RG Diego Soriano, 2 more key players including Defensive Team Captain CB1 Isaiah Collins and #3 WR Chandlin Myers both join them.

Collins is out with a Forearm Fracture that will see him miss at least the next 5 games well Myers is out with a Quad Tear that should sideline him 7-8 weeks.

                        Coach Scott
"My heart feels for both players. Both these guy's are Seniors and have been a huge reason why we are having the success we are. Collins has led our team in tackles multiple games and has been a huge part of our return game well Myers has been a key weapon for GNK (19 rec 293 yds 2 TD)"
                        GAME RECAP

The Red Raiders jumped out to a early (10-0) lead in the 1st and added another score early in the 2nd to make it (17-0) until the Bobcats found the endzone with 48 seconds to play in the half to make it (17-7).

Neither team would generate much offense in the 3rd Quarter. Texas State narrowed the lead to (17-13) after connecting on a pair of FG's but TTU added 3 points of their own to take a (20-13) lead into the 4th. Texas State would tie the game midway through the 4th (20-20) but with TTU answers back as GNK hooks up with LJ Johnson on a 62 yd bomb for the score to put the Red Raiders back on top.

Texas State actually had 2 chances to tie the game but both times end up turning it over on downs including the last one inside 1 minute. Out of timeouts all they could do was watch as TTU ran out the clock.

                        FINAL SCORE TTU-27 TSU-20

                        KEY PLAYERS
                        QB GNK-21/33 268 yds 3 TD, 16 yds rushing
                        RB K. Enis-11 carries 51 yds
WR LJ Johnson-4 rec 86 yds 1 TD
                        WR E. Schumacher-6 rec 59 yds 2 TD

                        TE T. Kugbila-7 rec 70 yds

                        DEFENSIVE/DEPTH CHART UPDATE

With Collins out and the D-Line starting to get healthy with the return of DT Ray Pippen, Coach Scott announced TTU will most likely go back to a 4-2-5 Defense rather then the 3-2-6 the Red Raiders have been runing.

JR Daquan Fowler (81) moves up to CB1 well his younger brother SO Evan Fowler (77) will join his brother in the starting lineup, leaving RS FR Keke Guy to take over CB3.

With Myers out Erick Schumacher moves up to WR3, with SR Trey Jackson (79) moving into the #4 spot and RS SO Adrian Manzo (79) taking on the #5 WR role. Neither Jackson or Manzo have recorded a catch yet this season.

                        UP NEXT

Texas Tech returns home to Jones AT&T to host the #16 Texas A&M Aggies in a Week 8 matchup. The Aggies are (4-2) on the season and 1-1 in Conference play (lost to Houston (23-20) in Week 6 and beat N. Texas (53-35) in Week 7..

                          A RIVALRY BORN!!

Well there is no official record in the game of NCAA25 as these 2 teams being rivals, trust me they are. TTU and TAMU have faced off against each other since 1927. The Aggies dominated the early meetings winning 12 of the first 13 matchups, but the Red Raiders won 11 out of 14 meetings from 1995 to 2008 with the official series still going to TAMU 37 wins 32 loss's and 1 tie in 1960 (14-14).

                          GAME RECAP

Tied (10-10) after the 1st Quarter of play, TAMU took the lead (13-10) early in the 2nd Quarter but TTU would manage to score twice before the half to take a (24-13) lead as SO CB Evan Fowler making his first career start takes a INT and turns it into a "Pick 6" to close out the half.

The Red Raiders came out of the locker room still on fire as GNK throws his 3rd TD of the day to extend the lead to (31-13). TAMU fires back was FR WR Kerry Erving takes a the pass 77 yds to the house to make it (31-20).

GNK was unfazed and after the kick return leads the Red Raiders onto the field for just 1 play of their own hitting Miguel Cashman for a 75 yd bomb to make it (38-20).

Still down by 18 entering the 4th, the TAMU SR QB Will Hammond (81 Ovr) hits JR RB Garrett Parker (91 Ovr) out of the backfield for a 13 yd score to make it (38-27). GNK however was doing his best impression of BJ Symons as he fires his 5th TD of the day again to Cashman to make it (45-27) with 4 minutes to play. The Aggies were not going down without a fight though as Parker breaks a 35 yd gain to take the Aggies down to the 1 yd line as SR SS Peyton Morgan tackles him with a shoe string dive. It would matter though as Hammond keeps it himself and dives in from 1 yd out to make it (45-34).

TTU would look to run off some clock but on 2nd and 6, Kenyon Enis would get the ball knocked out of his hands and the Aggies recover. Trailing by 2 scores TAMU knew they need to go to the air and score quickly. The TTU Defense had different plans as reserve CB FR Caesar Lopes (68 Ovr) picks the perfect time for his first career INT as he picks off Hammonds with 2:12 to play.

Despite leading by 11, GNK wasn't done.. There would be no kneel downs to run out the clock. GNK was looking for the killing blow and he found it hitting Schumacher for a 31 yd score. This 6th TD of the day and the day wasn't over yet.

The win wasn't just celebrated on the field.. This win was more then that.. This win was a building block to a legacy being born in Lubbock. This was a day Coach Scott would remember for the rest of his life.

                          AFTER THE GAME

5 potential recruits were on the sidelines for the Red Raiders upset win over the Top-25 ranked Aggies including 5* CB Matt Soroh (#10 Overall/#1 CB) from Lindale Texas. Soroh had a Week 9 visit scheduled with TAMU, a Week 11 visit scheduled with TCU and a Week 13 visit scheduled with Texas.

But Soroh wasn't going to make those trips, as Soroh celebrated with his new teammates. Sorah was going to be a Red Raider and the Day wasn't over yet..

The Fans had stormed the field, and the party was still going on at Jones AT&T when Coach Scott got the phone call. Soroh wasn't the only one committing to TTU today.. 5* Enrique Nunn had seen all he needed to see and the best part was the Austin Texas native hadn't even heard about Soroh's decision yet. The Red Raiders now had 2 5* recruits coming to Lubbock and the best was 5* LT Deontay Myers (#1 Overall/#1 TX/#1 T) was still in the mix. He was leaving Lubbock without a commitment, but he saw what was happening and what Coach Scott was building. The Aggies dropped to #3 and he canceled his trip. Now only #2 LSU was standing in their way from securing GNK's Blindside for the next 3 years.

                          UP NEXT

The Texas Tech/Houston game was suppose to be be another Top-25 Battle for the Red Raiders, but #20 Houston fell to UTSA (30-23) on the road in Week 8 and dropped out of the Polls. TTU however will still make it a Top-25 showdown though at the (6-1) Red Raiders are announced as the #25 ranked them in the Polls this week.

Liking what the future holds in Lubbock. Sucks it includes some big injuries to some key players right now. Congrats on the 5* pick ups. Hope you can get the blind side locked up.

MAHOMES BRINGS THE MAGIC AS TTU BEATS HOUSTON IN WEEK 10!!

The Texas Tech Red Raiders got a surprise visit from former TTU great Patrick Mahomes this week. The former QB spent time with GNK as the Freshman prepared for the Cougars and then joined the Red Raiders on the sidelines in Houston for the game.

                                PM
"Coach Scott is the real deal and GNK is going places. This kid has so much potential. Yeah he has made some mistakes this year but the kid is a gunslinger and when you play at TTU that's what you got to be."
Tied (7-7) after the 1st Quarter of play, TTU would score 3 times in the 2nd Quarter as GNK with TD #2/3/4 for GNK as the Freshman is fired up playing in front of the former TTU great. GNK wasn't the only one playing at a elite level as the TTU Defense comes up big with 2 INT's and allowing the Cougars just 3 points as Texas Tech takes a (28-10) lead into the locker room.

The Red Raiders opened up the 2nd half with the ball but a GNK pass is tipped at the line and the Cougars recover but once again have to settle for a FG making it (28-13). Unfazed by earlier INT, GNK goes back to the air and quickly leads TTU down the field for his 5th TD of the day to make it (35-13).

Houston would battle back scoring on their next series to make it (35-20) and then after another GNK INT cut the lead to just a touchdown early in the 4th making it (35-27).

After a couple quick play adjustments and a little pep talk from Mahomes, GNK was back out there firing as he extends Texas Tech's lead to (42-27) with his 6th TD of the day finding JR WR Erick Shumacher for his 4th TD catch of the day..

A turnover on downs would by the Cougars late in the 4th would seal the deal but for good measures TTU would add a 30 yd FG by SR Wake Eckert just to pour a little salt in the Cougars wounds.

                                FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH-45 HOUSTON-27

For the 2nd straight game TTU finished the game without a injury. TTU now has just 4 players left on the IR.

                                UP NEXT

Texas Tech moves up to #18 with their win and improves to (7-1) on the season. They will host the (3-5) Baylor next Saturday. Baylor opened the year with a (31-29) win over N. Texas but then lost to #6 Oregon (52-24), Lost to #3 Auburn (31-29), beat Oregon State (39-34) and FCS West (54-10) before losing their next 3 games #13 Texas (24-21), UTSA (41-28) and Rice (32-17).

                                Coach Scott
"Well the Bears record isn't impressive, we can't overlook them. They played Auburn tough losing only by 2 and the Longhorns only beat them by 3. We have spent alot of time watching both games, but we also have been enjoying the game film from the UTSA game and we believe like the Road Runners we have found their weakness"
