Run Down:
The Panthers played thier worst hockey this year during the last 14 games going 7 and 7. 500 hockey is nothing to complain about but after 40 and 7 over the last 47 games this could signal some trouble.
Thompson is on the road to hit 163 pts this year (52pts short of Gretzkys alltime title) while linemates Booth and Lukes are on pace for 96 and 88, both career highs. 8 Panther players are sporting 40+ point seasons right now, while another 5 could hit the mark after 82 games.
Strong man Belak, after missing some games this month due to injury, is 2nd in the league with 244 pims while Smith leads all NHL d-men in +/-.
Since the trade on Feb 9th with Colorado (more details down below), Horton has added 2 goals and 3 assists while on the 3rd line with Matthias and Reinprecht.
The Panthers have a few games left before the Trade Deadline. You can expect some movement if the team continues to play like they did the last 14 games. Hoping I can move Brashear, haha
Team Notes/Events:
Moore (Feb 1 2011):
During the Panthers first game back from the Allstar Break against the Wings, Moore took a Lidstrom shot off the Elbow and left the ice. Reported as a bruised elbow, the 4th line center will miss some time -scheduled back on the 3rd of Feb. Center Tough Guy Clint Smyth (A 120th pick in last years draft, 0 pts, -4 7 pims with Rochester) will take his place.
Moore (Feb 3rd 2011):
Quickly recovering but still sporting an elbow brace, Moore was cleared to play and will take his usual postion on the 4th line.
Semenov (Feb 3rd 2011):
With one player coming back another heads for the press box. During the game against Nashville, Semenov was taking a pass and didn't see Arnott coming. Falling to the ice in significant pain, Semenov was diagnosed with a broken hand - scheduled back on Feb 25th. Once again Clint Smyth will dress for the Panthers.
Belak (Feb 7th 2011):
The injury bug bites again as Tough Guy Belak sustains a briused wrist against Carolina - scheduled back on Feb 12th. This time Grinder Victor Oreshovich (9 pts, 64 pims in 54 games with Rocherster) will get the call.
Belak (Feb 12th 2011):
Cleared by team doctors, Belak heads back to the 4th line against Ottawa.
Belak (Feb 15th 2011):
Belak can't stay healthy as the tough guy sustains a bruised shoulder against Pittsburgh - scheduled back on Feb 24th. Grinder Brady Calla (8pts, 39 pims in 57 games with Rochster) is called up to take his place.
Belak (Feb 24th 2011):
Once again cleared by team doctors, Belak will man the 4th line against the Devils. Calla sent back to Rochester.
Semenov (Feb 25th 2011):
After missing 8 games, Semenov is back in the lineup with Moore and Belak. Clint Smyth sent back to Rochester.
Colorado Trade Brings back Panther (Feb 9th 2011)
Today a former Panther comes back to the elite squad as the Panthers traded RW Rostislov Olesz and D Victor Oreshovivh to Colorado for RW Nathan Horton, Colorado's 2nd round pick, and Anahiem's 2nd round pick.
The Panthers gain an experienced 26 year RW who has worn this jersey before (was traded in 2009 to Colorado for thier 1st round pick - Panthers used that pick to select Ed Schnieder). Having amassed 45 pts in 51 games with Colorado this year and 81 points last year, Panthers management are estatic to get him back. The Panthers also acquired Colorado's 2nd round pick (Currently the Avs are tied for 2nd last in the NHL) and Anahiem's 2nd round pick (Currently the Ducks are 2nd in the league in pts behind the Panthers), perfect for future help.
In exchange the Panthers lose young right wing R Olesz (19 pts, 12 pims, and +7 in 51 games with the Panthers) and Rochester D prospect V Oreshovich (9 pts, 64 pims, -9 in 52 games with Rocherster).
After a quick look it seems that the Panthers are the clear winner here, definately an excellent trade after 64 games.
Panther Forward lines:
