Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
If you're using my QB trait edits then that would make sense cause Goff is a pocket passer type. I'm happy to see Cam Newton start scrambling.Comment

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
I haven't seen many statue sacks tbh. The incidence doesn't stand out to me as an issue right now, but qb decision-making is still off. As I said, they do evade pressure in the pocket, but are fixated on passing, and after evading instead of picking up an easy first down with their legs they will force a pass into coverage, or try to make a more difficult and risky play.
I'm not sure I have a single QB rushing recording against that isn't a read option keeper.Comment

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
For CFM players, you absolutely can't allow many QBs to be Ideal Pocket Presence. In M17 nearly EVERY good drafted QB came in with Ideal, and that's the one thing that leads to the sim engine not generating sacks.
I'll assume it's exactly like this in M18, too.

My thoughts on QB editing:
1. Only 6 QB's in Madden should have the Ideal Sense Pressure Trait, Ideal Force Pass and Throw Ball Away turned ON and CLUTCH set to ON:
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Matt Ryan
Drew Brees
Ben Roethlisberger
Derek Carr
(Yes Derek Carr, he was the least sacked QB last year).
2. The Sense Pressure traits do a lot more to the QB's abilities than you think it does. Ideal makes them play actually better and gives boost to stats.Comment

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
I don't believe anything we do will completely fix what is wrong with the quarterbacks AI. It's something EA can only do, if we are lucky maybe the start of the next decade.
However, there are multiple ways to minimize them. They have all been discussed and are still being tested. Right now, I'm using the red zone gameplans in Josh's thread. I'm also editing each quarterback I play by changing certain traits. What should they be is still under evaluation. Lastly, I used custom playbooks by removing all hb/fb screen plays and verticals/4 verts except in Hail Mary and 4th and long.
The combination of all these fixes helps minimize what we don't like to see by the computer quarterbacks. They are in no way permanent or complete. But they will help.
Its ridiculous EA hasn't properly coded this aspect of quarterback play in the current generation of consoles yet. They have their reasons. I don't believe it's because they aren't aware of them. It's more the result of complacency, knowing they are the only NFL football game on the market targeting the mainstream population, instead of the die hards. Although, the latter are beginning to have some influence on Rex and their team.

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
This is what it looks like to me:
Ideal - Results in scrambles with a scrambling QB (ex. Wilson) but you cant give them to every QB for realism and stats purposes.
Average - Results in statue QBs.
Oblivious - Results in statue QBs.
Paranoid - Seems to result in scrambles if force passes is set to conservative. More testing needed.
Trigger Happy - Results in some scrambles but also results in the QB throwing the ball after the line of scrimmage or throwing when running is the better choice.Comment

It is rediculous though, I agree.
I say it every couple days..... I just don't understand what the problem is. Is it too hard to code this stuff in. I mean he stuck the sim mode in for us! Again, I just don't get it

The changes will possibly minimal. Hopefully more. But every little bit helps. And couple that with playbooks?

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
Been experimenting trying to get QB's to run for some yards under pressure. Having a heck of a time.
The clip is of all the movement I was able to induce from Russell Wilson in my most recent game. He only had one rush in the game—a read option that I blew up which I excluded from the reel. Now, I know Wilson isn't a running QB, but I think he should still be good for at least 40-50 carries/year on the low end at this point in his career. I tried like hell to blitz him, and then I tried dropping everyone in coverage for a bit as well. The ai qb behavior remained the same I'd say.

Some of the scrambles to pass look decent, but I did also have six sacks in the game. I'm not really commenting on anything generally, just trying to get some data out there and see what others think.Comment

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
So I'm playing with the Browns and I'm in Week 2 playing against the Ravens. DeShone Kizer by rookie QB broke his thumb in the 4th quarter, and Cody Kessler came in.
Keep in mind I play coach mode.
In 4 straight plays, Cody Kessler dropped back to pass, nothing was open and he took off running. 4 straight plays, and on that 4th play we were at the 15 yard line and he scrambled into the end zone. My mouth was open the entire time. Like WTF.
His traits are:
Player Type: West Coast
Sense Pressure: Trigger Happy
Forces Passes: Balanced (which is Aggressive)
Throw Ball Away: Yes
Clutch: No
High Motor: No
QB Style: Pocket
His AWR is 75.
My playbook that I'm using on the Browns is: Run n GunComment

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
The issue is this legacy issue does not affect H2H, online, and the competitive community which is what 95% of the Madden Game Changers are, and what Rex is. He plays online / competitive. They don't have to worry about CPU QB AI awareness and scrambling cause their always playing against another user.
THAT is the problem.
We always get the "we're committed to sim" statements from this group, but their actions say otherwise.
Rex claiming he's into sim style play, then showing box scores for 6 minute quarters (which everything is tuned for) while showing scores usually in the 30s and 40s, tells me the real story.
I'm on the verge of just giving the game up completely, as it is starting to look hopeless to me as an OFFLINE CFM player only.
I love football, but I despise playing online.
Hell, all week I haven't even been able to log into my online single player CFM because of EAs crap servers. So, I had to restart a CFM offline just to be able to play again.

Re: As a community we cannot accept the current CPU QB play.
So far, after tuning the QB acc sliders down I'd say missed passes are quite well done. Coverage is another story, however.
QB play is still a huge problem though. Instead of trying to force some of these difficult passes I we need to see QB's throw the ball away, and QB's take the easy scramble. They can do a decent job evading in the pocket, but they are way to obsessed with passing when the running is the better option.
I've played a number of games against QB's who should take easy yards with their feet and they just prefer to throw into coverage or try to fit the ball into a really tough spot. I didn't bother to call any spies or contains. I completely ignored defending Cam Newton and Russell Wilson's legs, and it was of no consequence in the game.
These QB traits just seems to mess everything up.Comment
