I get that you guys are just trying to find some way to say maybe it was designed to be that way, but it just simply isn't the case. This is just an issue with coverage right now. Players in man coverage are just breaking in the wrong direction for some reason right now and hopefully EA can figure it out and fix it quick for all of us.

We saw this last year as well. I’m not convinced it’s a logic issue but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was.

Here’s an example that I recorded. I have CPU pass coverage sliders MAXED but default All-Pro everywhere else. Inline TE breaking quickly outside cause the defender to get turned around every time I called it. It seems to be 100% on all-pro against with any CPU defender that I tested.

I even subbed in a backup LT and got the same result, but I didn’t record.

I know it's a play from the playbook, hence why I mentioned the "Lock" play. The name of the default play is something with "Lock" in the name.

In my opinion, this is how it should be. The only problem may be with defensive coverage logic, but even if that issue was completely ironed out, the seams would still be the soft spot of the defense. That's just real football logic.

Whenever I play defense against against users, I use the seams as bait. Everybody and their momma knows that the seams are gonna be open at some point on every pass play. It's the users job to use this as a chess piece and account for it every play.

Looks like the LB is breaking inside on the TE's fake move inside.

It would be really nice if this is deliberate mechanic in the game, as the fake-out makes more sense for overall gameplay.

The move and fake-out consistently happening on every play maybe isn't intended, but then, maybe it is. Maybe the LB agility is low? Awareness? I saw the sliders set to 100, are any of them backward?
Interesting, I hope to hear feedback from EA.

That was my initial thought; that is until I replayed this play around 50 times and couldn’t generate a defensive win. You can see a little fake with the head followed by the plant foot, but it’s really subtle. The TE is matched up against a superstar OLB on MAXED Coverage Slider though. This doesn’t explain how I substituted a LT at the TE position and achieved the same result either.

I’m going to see if I can record some more instances where I think the developers need to take a look. Maybe someone can forward them along to the right people.

I agree with everything people are saying about the poor coverage. However, I'm gonna wait till the day one patch to see what happens. If it's still bad I have no doubt Clint and the others will get it fixed.

^^^^This is where I am at. I am also hoping that no serious negative side effects result from a day ~1 patch.

I don't recall ever seeing the DB cut away from the WR last year. I only remember the bug where DB's would backpedal towards the sideline on deep routes leaving their guy wide open. However, I have just under 200 hours in Madden 19 and I'd say at least 150 of those are with modded gameplay, so that may be exactly why I didn't see the coverage issues. I modded the heck out of coverage.

Man this is awful if true. I literally stopped playing 100% last year in the middle of a franchise because I was so fed up with pass coverage

I have doubts because it was broke for the whole season last year

Re: Pass Coverage is STILL so broken

Here are a couple of clips I recorded, all from the same game.

Both of these are zone coverages showing safeties playing way too deep. Also, notice where the ball is by the time they actually start to close in on the receiver. It is literally already almost halfway to the receiver.

Here is a zone play where the defender is supposed to be in a hook zone. Instead of covering the receiver directly in front of him, he... I'm not even really sure what he's doing.

Here is a man coverage clip. This happens ALL the time. I've been seeing it happen since NCAA 14.

It seems like in a passing situation, you can either go zone and hope your defenders make a break on the ball, or go man and hope they get broken by the receivers cut. Either way, things need a serious fix. But if they "couldn't get to zones this year" as we heard them say recently, how can we expect them to patch in a fix?

It seems like the issue is definitely more persistent on sharp out and in breaking routes with man coverage. It’s very odd behavior that, if not 100%, it’s really close on every play I replay.

Here you’ll see another example of an out route that just throws the defender’s momentum in the opposite direction. The most curious thing in this example is that the defender initially appear to track the receiver before flipping his hips and driving away from the receiver inexplicably.

This is an in route by a receiver that causes the defender to drive his momentum in the opposite direction of the receiver’s path as well.

Did the receiver or the QB have that super star trait that boosts them on out breaking routes?

I was using Seattle Offense against Jaguars Defense. I’m pretty certain that Russell Wilson is a superstar, but I don’t know about having any increased effectiveness with out or in breaking routes off-hand.

This was practice mode for what it’s worth btw.
