Re: The NFL and 2K Are Back Together, 'Non-Simulation' Games Will Release Beginning i
As bare bones as APF 2K8 was, I’ve probably spent more with this one game than all other sports games I’ve played combined just from how much enjoyment I get from the gameplay alone, there was a stretch I’ve probably played it almost every single day when I was in an online league from 2008-2012. Since the release of Javo’s APF Editor it feels like a brand new game and gave me the ability to create the 1993 roster and what was a bare bones game is no longer to me, as I now have the ability to create unlimited amount of rosters and content for it.

I agree completely and your rosters are legit(I mentioned that on YouTube already). I have been playing as much as I canComment

'Another BIG voting matter for next week's virtual owners meeting: NFL teams will vote to ratify a five-year extension of their video-game licensing agreement with EA Sports, through the 2026 season.
So, I believe, this would take you through Madden NFL '27."

Re: The NFL and 2K Are Back Together, 'Non-Simulation' Games Will Release Beginning i
I hope that it is just extending the license and not the exclusive license. I feel a feeling that we will know next week the future of 2k football. I believe they will report whether it is the exclusive license or not. if they do announce that it is the exclusive license being extended until Madden 27, then you can kiss the dream of a sim NFL 2k game goodbye. But if it just mentions NFL license being extended and not exclusive, there is chance NFL allows 2k to bid for open sim license to start after EA’s exclusive deal expires
Either way EA NFL license is getting extended. Madden has the brand recognition and sole licensed NFL game, so it will always sell well. The key thing next week is whether they announce that the exclusive deal will continue or not. Not sure if next week’s voting is just on NFL license or overall exclusive deal with NFL license. But have the feeling that we will have idea of future of 2k football after next weekComment

Its a wrap for an NFL 2k game. The owners aren't negotiating the deal. Its already been negotiated meaning the league wants it to continue as well. The vote is just for ratification by the owners.
They've no reason NOT to approve it as the money has been good for them and they couldnt care less about Madden's quality (which is good enough to sell units) nor the potential of 2k making a sim game.
Lol! Might have to re-name this forum "2k Football"Comment

Im curious if 2k can still do an APF 2k type game. It wouldn't have the NFL license attached but could have the NFLPA. You'd have the current and/or retired players on fictional teams in fictional stadiums, etc....possibly different rules...XFL rules for example.Last edited by Kanobi; 05-22-2020, 01:26 PM.Comment

Re: The NFL and 2K Are Back Together, 'Non-Simulation' Games Will Release Beginning i
In the end, the NFL and 2k partnership could still be a win-win for both parties, just not a win for us. Giving 2k a non-simulation license, expands gaming market for NFL and brings in more revenue while maintaining relationship with EA. For 2k, they get back into NFL market and bring in more revenue. So it is a win win for them.
I've been saying that we find out by at the latest end of next year about if EA's license would get extended or not. I just didn't know owners would vote on it this year. So the positive take is we don't have to wait that much longer.
If EA's deal is extended, then our best hope is that 2k can blur the lines of what non-simulation is. I just hope we aren't just going to get NFL Playgrounds and a mobile card game. We'll know by next Thursday.Comment

Here's a description from EA themselves on Madden's own "Arcade" mode:
Arcade is the high-octane version of Madden. This game style delivers a fast-paced, exciting style of play where high scores and spectacular catches are the norm and penalties are very limited. The user-controlled player is the ‘boss’ and will feel like the most powerful player on the field. This mode is perfect for the gamer trying to get in a quick, casual, and action-filled game.
Also, from Albert Breer's tweet, the contract language specifically states "NFL-themed realistic action simulation video games."
But what about the NFLPA? I've always understood the NFLPA to be its own entity. If that's the case then a 2k sim-style game using the current and/or retired players might be possible just not with real NFL stadiums, teams, logos, mascots, etc. But I could be wrong.Comment

Was really holding out hope that 2k was being given a chance to show what they could do before the license would be extended.
Now I know the 2k football games will all be mobile/casual/big head small body arcade games.Comment
