Re: Dear APF Dev Team....wheres the defense?

I said this in a thread a few weeks ago also. This is the first football game in a long time that you dont see anyone complaining about sliders and money routes and glitches that give an unfair advantage. The game is not without its quirks but none of them are game impacting to the degree where you feel taken advantage of..at least I dont.

What would be nice if the devs would share their views on their thinking behind these things, then we could make alot of progress, because we would also know where they are coming from in what they have to deal with when programming thee games.

Nail on the head right there. All 2k games become works of beauty when any area is played as it was intended. Where they fail is in explaining that and making it still appear right in all areas when you don't play as intended. That's why so many people think the games suck before really getting into them. I don't have a problem with the fact that some "video game style" playing doesn't work. That's actually a PLUS, but if I don't know how I should be thinking, help me figure it out.

I think the Isomotion in the nba2k series is the BIGGEST offender of this, but the football version of isomotion with the right stick is a close second... and there are many more in all their games.

Good luck on that one. As much as I'm proponent of 2K's games I've been saying for years that their games play in such a detailed manner that they should be explained. When things happen what was the reasoning. I think they'd be surprised how many "OH So THATS why" they'd hear and how pleased people will be with the game.

I don't care about issues like that. Barry can shake him all 20 times for all I care.
THe thing that irks people is how slow and stupid the defenders react to the play.
That jessie tuggle video was a prime example. It's not just that one play either. I've seen that reaction from the MLB so many times in this game.
Someone said it well before, I shouldn't have to "game" the game to get what I want. I should be able to use fundamental football knowledge to win the game.

Just played a game using "fundamental football knowledge". I made no manual blitz attempts. I only called my plays and made hot route adjustments to my blitzes when I felt needed.

Reggie White: 2 sacks(with MANY hurries)
              Derrick Thomas: 1.5 Sacks(Many hurries)\
              Karl Mecklenburg: 1 Sack
              Keith Millard: 2 sacks(many hurries)
generic DT: 1 sack(thanks to Reggie Whites Pursuit from the outside)

Thats 7 sacks in one game with no manual blitzing, No "gaming" the game. A 27-3 victory by
the up and coming Gladiators. I could almost hear the CPU crying uncle.

I understand how you feel about the crazy stuff you sometimes see in the game. Drives me batty to sometimes. Until they fix it what do you propose we do ?

From what I am seeing the match ups in this game are really crucial. If you are running a pure pass rush OL againts a defensive line with a few legends, if you call plays(without even having to manually blitz) that set up one on one matchups the Legend player will win his battle WAY more times than the Generic. If the generic gets help that negates the Legend...as it should be.

As for the sometimey weird unexplained moves some players make and what makes them take crazy angles sometimes I agree 100% with you on that, NO ONE is argueing yall that point. Until they fix it what do you propose we do ? Sit and watch it and whine or take control of the situation ourselves ?

Again, I aint disagreeing with you on the quirks in the game.

Too anybody that doesn't think theres a problem.

I have a defense with Woodson/Thomas/Lloyd/Barney/Martin/Simmons on it. I slanted strong side all game. I blitzed, I went into 4-4, I went into Bear.

The halftime stats for my last game vs Campbell.
                    7carries, 211 yards, 2 TD 10 Broken Tackles

I held Campbel to 25 yards on 5 carries in the first half. Then the guy quit.

I called gap right/gap left all game and audibled so they slanted to the strong side. IE, they go strong right I make sure my slant is going to the right.

I'll do ya one. After practicing last night I played a random guy. He had Earl, Tom Rathman, Jerry, Don Maynard and Randall Cunningham. I was like oohhh boy here we go. But nahhh, I had this kid on lock until the 4th Qtr. His D was pretty good too. So going into the 4th it was still a 7-7 game. Earl had 1. 8 yds per carry. Then out of nowhere, Earl busts a 43 yd run for a TD. What pissed me off was HOW it happened. Earl gets the hand off and I got my MLB charging right up the gut untouched. He hits Earl 2 yards behind the line. Broken tackle #1. I come over with the OLB and hit Earl, Broken Tackle #2. Fat a$$ Dan Saleamua grabs Earl from behind, Broken Tackle #3, then of course Leroy Butler is going to get pimp slapped. Earl is gone for 43 yds and a TD. I was like aint this some bullsh#t. Mind you Earl up to this point also had 10 catches for 61 yds. Now there should be very severe fatigue issues. Anyways, he missed the Xtra point, I come back and score quickly. I end up winning the game 14-13 and of course i got negative feedback because he loss, stupidity. Earl had 74 rushing yards, 43 off one stupid a$$ run. I only got 1 Sack but multiple pressures - wanted the damn sacks - take off speed needs to be tweaked that's all.

But let me return to the run before moving on and I will put on my best Steve Harvey impersonation. OK, EARL had just got the ball ya'll. And a 251 lb Middle Linebackah was running right down tha PIPE! SOMEBODY PLEEEEZZZZ TELLLLL ME!!!! HOW IT IS EVEN REEEEE - MOTE - LEE POSSIBLE, THAT HE BREAKS, NOT JUST THIS TACKLE!!! BUT EARL STEPPIN OVER AND SH@TTIN ON EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE WAY!!

Anyways I think guys can be contained, but it's when the bullish happens and then you got some guy talking like he's all that on the mic, drunk as hell when the A.I basically GAVE him the run. Yeah that reminds me I played some guy the other day, his gamer tag was Bunchadrunks LOLOL. I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my eyes.

Ha! It's a good day when he only has ONE of those runs on you in a game. No one else seems to pile on the ridiculousness like Earl. Hitting him square in the hole had to be frustrating; I get mad enough when I hit him at the line but at an angle. I'd be cussing a blue streak if I hit him square in the mouth right when he got the handoff and he still ran through me.

I've played against him a few times recently and think I've just gotten lucky, because he hasn't done all that much lately. I've got a d-line focused group and they tend to swarm and tackle pretty effectively. I'm sure if I gave it ten games, though, that I'd have a story like that to tell.

What cracks me up is how good he is on swings and screens--the guy was NEVER a receiving threat, look at his career numbers. But on this game, he's murder out there on little dbs.

Yeah that was the one thing too. I was like where is the fatigue man. He already has 10 receptions for 61 yards, how is he even breathing. Earl was good at running and all and even then he ran recklessly and suffered several big hits. The one thing I did take delight in though was I did get two good hits on his punk a$$. HAHAH!! You will not believe who got one of them however. It was Lem Barney. On one of those swing passes I had Barney guarding the flats. He gave up 3 yards but I switched over charged up and hit that b@thc right under the chin and he went flying backwards. But then later Earl runs over my linebacker running full speed untouched right up the middle? How can I hit him like that with Barney, but then with Norton Jr he just throws me off They were both head up too. Trust me, I thought with Barney I was gonna be doomed all alone out there in the flat vs Earl.
