I'm glad the owners won't be able to use that 'war chest' as leverage. I don't like how the owners seem to want to stick it to the players' union. I'm fully on the players' side and hope they get everything they deserve.

Re: Official CBA Thread
That is the reason they want to decertify. That way the league has to deal with each player like a normal employee and cannot lock them out. The league can call them on it though and continue with business as usual without the union and CBA. I'm not sure if there are any legal issues that the owners would have to deal with or if they lose their antitrust exemptions.Comment

Problem with that is it's exactly what they did during the previous labor dispute, and you can't do this as if you are going through the motions, the union could potentially lose. Decertification means the union leaders walk away, and obviously they aren't going to do that, they'd decertify with the intention of reforming once it's resolved.Comment

Here's something I hadn't thought of before but i heard this on ESPN radio the other night and it makes perfect sense. If you've noticed a lot of veterans are getting cut just as the CBA deadline approaches. The thinking is, this is a lowball/screw you move by the owners so that after a prolonged workout these vets will have NO leverage and will sign for more than half of what they made this year.
It's not a HUGE thing but might be something to look out for when the lockout is over.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Yes but the thinking is that these guys will have NO leverage. Let's say the lockout goes into September or early October so there's still a season. Those guys who were cut will have to take any kind of piddling offer the owners give them.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
I'm getting really tired of both sides saying things like, "We're willing to talk," and telling the media that it's about the fans and whatnot... What a bunch of BS.

Re: Official CBA Thread
At least they've extended it for a week. One could be positive and say they're close to an agreement but that'd be living in fantasy land.
It's pretty damn pathetic when billionaires and millionaires are arguing like this when the league makes more money than we could possibly dream of. You'd think they'd come to some sort of agreement. The players aren't being very extravagant with their demands in fact, some of their demands are common sense things.
