Re: Official CBA Thread
Absolutely ridiculous for them to not appear. If I were a top prospect, I'd tell them to shove it.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
From an NFLPA standpoint I love it. Why shouldn't they try to make the NFL's life miserable? What better way to stick it to the NFL then to strike a decent (not huge) blow to their last scheduled televised event. If they were going to lock me out then I'd do the same thing.
It puts the rookies in a tough spot but these aren't 15 year old kids. These are 21,22,23 year old men (really tilts me when people call college athletes kids). I say it's just the beginning of a long life of tough decisions and office politics for them. Get used to it.NFL - Vikings

Re: Official CBA Thread
Why? The NFLPA will be the same body they rely on once their players. If they will do whatever to help the players. That billion will be money they split. We are looking at a rookie scale so it will be difficult to make that money up if they are giving money back to the owners.Last edited by da ThRONe; 03-15-2011, 11:12 AM.You looking at the Chair MAN!

I think a better statement would be to have them appear and just take the jersey and hat but don't even acknowledge goodell. Don't take a picture with him, don't shake his hand and just pretend he's nowhere in sight.
That would have more of a chilling effect than not being there. I have a copy of the first round of the '83 draft and NONE of the big name players were there so it's not like the draft always had the big names there to shake the commish's hand.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official CBA Thread
The NFLPA is dead wrong for this. You have basically agreed to a rookie wage scale, which is sticking it to these new players, now you are asking them to boycott THEIR day. The draft is a once in a lifetime experience, for these guys and the NFLPA shouldn't have even thought to ask these kids to skip it. To be in New York City with your family and friends, have you picture taken be announced and the player an NFL team wanted. To be shown the city, and all that it has to offer.
Moves like this move my needle away from the NFLPA and back to center. Like someone mentioned, have the players ignore Goodell, but don't ask them to skip the draft. They will never have this chance again.Moderator

Re: Official CBA Thread
I agree that draft day is special ,but you don't have to go to enjoy it. There are other options. They have to decide what's more important potentially increasing the earning pool or showing up for the draft.
If I were the parent of a top pick I would advise them to think about the future and not just one day.Last edited by da ThRONe; 03-15-2011, 11:37 AM.You looking at the Chair MAN!

Re: Official CBA Thread
Yeah actually sure it's nice to be in New York and there when you get drafted, but I'd think i'd rather be at home surrounded friends, family, good food, etc.
Either way it's still there day no matter if they show up or not.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Let me clarify. It's totally the players choice. I probably would go myself, regardless of what's going on. You play well and you'll win back the player's that resent you for going.
But I do understand why the NFLPA is doing this. The owner's want to LOCK THEM OUT. Which means no medical, no paychecks, no rehab. You're seeing a neurologist for your ongoing concussions, tough. You're in physical therapy because your ACL is repaired, good luck. If the owner's want to play hardball then I have no problem with the NFLPA throwing some mud back. I'm pretty sure the NFL wants to cut back rookie salaries AND veteran salaries. So, in essence, they are worse on rookies then the NFLPA. Goodell works for the owner's. Why would you even want to shake his hand?Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 03-15-2011, 11:54 AM.NFL - Vikings

Re: Official CBA Thread
I can be surrounded by family etc anytime I want, I'm not giving up the opportunity to be at the draft, unless there is a chance I will fall in the draft an look stupid like Aaron Rodgers/Brady Quinn lol. They don't have a chance of increasing the earning pool by sitting out. They already agreed on a rookie wage scale so it really doesn't matter.Comment

You do make a good point about them getting to FA quicker though.Moderator

Re: Official CBA Thread
Can you clarify this? I don't see how attending the draft will have a negative effect on them. They aren't a part of the NFLPA right now, and are being used as leverage point. I don't really care one way or the other, but to me it's selfish for the PA to ask them to do this.

Players attending the draft is all for the player... not the NFL, not really the fans... just the player.Comment
