Re: Official CBA Thread
First AP, WTF WERE YOU THINKING?!
Actually, he probably wasn't.
Although, I do think you have a point as there's a lot more talent floating around today than there was in '87 thanks to the various leagues, the increased talent level of college football so those who were stars in college but didn't go to the pros and decide to be scabs will play a LOT better than the replacements back then.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

It also opened the door for players to cross picket lines, which they eventually did.Comment

This is not a good thing. While I don't fault the NFL perse this is something I hope they reconsider or negotiate to have continue on.

Re: Official CBA Thread
At first maybe, but new players would quickly gain star power.
You forget, to many people football is more then just about star players, and ego's. I actually would welcome new players in every pro sport, if it brought a end to the trend that has formed over the past 15-20 years. Its sickening IMO. They can say its business all they want....but in the end, its just a football game. Thats right, a game. I miss the old school legends, and IMO money and the business side has changed the game.
I realize the owners have done dirty things themselves through the years. Its really too bad.
just my opinions, not attacking others who like the current state of pro sports.
It's simple to me, if the owners are truly losing money and can't afford to resign the same agreement that's been in place since 1997, then they need to open their books to the players and prove it. Especially since all the exclusive agreements that have made the NFL so much money were signed after 1997.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Article trying to explain AP's comments. AP used an AWFUL choice of words but the article does have a point. The NFL is not a free market. Now I know most people are bunkered into the whole "you make 10M, shut up and play" mentality but it's a good read nonetheless.

Re: Official CBA Thread
But for the most part we all pick a field and then we pick an employer in that field. In sports, you don't for the 1st 3-5 years and in football you pretty much never get too until you're old and washed up. I'm all for a draft to keep balance but free agency should be free agency. Those ridiculous franchise and transition tags really push the limits to me, personally.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 03-16-2011, 07:51 PM.NFL - Vikings

He made his choices, he wants to play football, and he can walk away whenever he chooses. He knew the rules going in...I don't feel for him in anyway."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: Official CBA Thread
In my profession they tell me where to go/what to do. I made that choice and I am fine with it. I do not consider myself a slave by any definition (and I actually can't even step down and leave when I want to).

I approve of this post.
Oh, and poor AD certainly did choose his employer, he chose the NFL. No one was stopping him from going to the CFL or to one of the arena leagues.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
