The full demand is either $10 mil or unrestricted free agency though. They aren't just demanding more money. I'm as frustrated as the next guy about this thing not being over yet, but I don't think that's all that unreasonable, and we could just as easily be yelling at the owners for not letting these guys become UFAs... it's more out of the blue for Brees and Manning, but those aren't the ones pushing the issue. Jackson seems like an *** in general, but he does have a point here.

Re: Official CBA Thread
I'm not buying that blog. It doesn't make sense for the league and I am not hearing it reported anywhere else. But I have heard a possible $3 million dollar bubble over the $120 mil. cap to help keep current free agents, just for this year. When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
If Mankins and Jackson hold up this deal, they could pass Lebron as the most hated athletes in the world. In the public eyes , they will be deemed as greedy mo fo's . They might even be outcasts to their own respected teams and players. No one is above the league and no one is below the league. These guys are not game changers and they will not leave thier legacy to the game except the fact that " they" held up a season and created financial ramifications to NFL employees , players and fans.
I will hold my final opinion till after Thursday to see if these tools came to their sensesComment

Re: Official CBA Thread
LOL. I agree with the opinions they will be tools if games are lost due to these two. But you have to realize their lawyers are involved here right now more than they are. And the lawyers are trying to do best by their guy. These two guys do get screwed IMO if they get nothing and get franchised this year after getting the screw job last year. When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Any player currently on a roster, could be included in the overage, but I don't think new players would be able to be counted.
As for the demands of the 2 players, the NFL should give them the free agency they want. Then offer them both league minimum contracts for the rest of their playing career.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
I don't care about the public eye though. The public eye is usually far from rational and rarely considered all variables, and that's true in this case too. I want what's best for the public but not in the public eye. Honestly, it doesn't have to be about money. Make the guy an unrestricted free agent and all of this is over, so why not do it? The general public doesn't know his situation last year but we do. Taking the money out of the equation and he's just asking for what he would've gotten if there wasn't a lockout... freedom to go to another team. I'm not happy that these guys are bringing up something that may be holding up the process on the players side, but I also can't turn a blind eye to the fact the owners could easily squash it also and I'd say that would be doing the right thing.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
what he actually said was less exciting.
To give people the time line for the rest of the day:
NFL Owners are expected to hold a ratify vote today between 3:30 and 5:30.
NFLPA is having a conference call at 8 p.m. Mort said on ESPN, summary:
Players will probably agree to settlement tonight but not sure if they will re-certify yet.Last edited by OSUFan_88; 07-21-2011, 01:57 PM.Too Old To Game Club
