Apparently one of the hangups and why there wasn't as much progress today as expected is that Mankins and Jackson both still want $10m.

Seriously. As if they both don't have more than enough money to live the rest of their lives on anyways?Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Official CBA Thread
Vincent Jackson's head continues to grow **** proportions, and soon will create a gravity field of its own.
Settlement should be "How about I dont put my fist down your throat"Aaron

It takes a lot of balls to hold up a negotiation of this scale because you're being greedy. The guys are millionaires already. Accept the settlement, and make your money when you reach free agency. All theyre doing is being complete douchebags by trying to get money out of this.Comment

In the same vein Brees and Manning's (Peyton) name were brought up as doing the same thing as those two. Brees has denied it on his twitter account but Manning hasn't said a peep about it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official CBA Thread
Brees isn't that kind of guy to hold this up unless he felt it wasn't a fair deal not for personal gain, I feel Manning is the same type of person. Brees has denied it and both happen to share the same agent who said they haven't looked for any personal gain and are behind the players to resolve the negotiationsSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official CBA Thread
I'll play devils advocate for Vincent Jackson. Last year he earned $165,000. He also did things the right way. Singed a contract and played it out. Didn't hold out while he was under contract. Didn't make mention of his contract situation in the media during the season. He played out his contract like many say all athletes should do. He played out a 5 year, $3.495 million deal, and was slated to be an unrestricted FA.
When the defendants in the law suit voted to end the CBA, Vincent Jackson was a "Victim". With no CBA he was now a restricted FA who didn't need to be "Franchised" because this team could tender him an offer that would've paid him about half or even less than half of what he could've received in the open market.
So now that we are about to have a CBA again, what could happen to Jackson again, he could now be franchised and while he will be guaranteed a salary of the top 5 WR for one year his is 28 and lost one of his prime money making years last year. So all he wants is what he believes he has earned the freedom to choose his next employer and the ability to maximize his earnings while he is still in a position to basically name his price. So all this VJ is greedy talk seems off to me.
That said, I want football back as much as the next guy, but I understand why Mankins and VJax want guaranteed freedom or money.Last edited by N51_rob; 07-21-2011, 11:02 AM.Moderator

Re: Official CBA Thread
Edit: I may be wrong. He signed a 3 year deal for 3.495 million. Or $699,000 per season before taxes and agent fees. So he made around $2 Million after taxes.Last edited by N51_rob; 07-21-2011, 11:00 AM.Moderator
