They wouldn't be talking for 6-7 hours a day if they weren't going well.

Prior to having a mediator they were talking that long and getting nowhere.

Personally I'm positive, but it doesn't mean the discussions have gone well just because they have had long sessions.

They aren't talking because of 2 options.

1- The mediator told them not to talk about the meetings and both sides don't want to be the ones to break that. Once it is broken, then everything will come out and mediation will end.

2- They actually are making progress and don't want to risk any issues. If that was the case though, good news usually will be leaked.

One thing that worries me about these sessions is the fact that no owners are attending them. Even if Smith and Goodell reach an agreement, if the owners don't sign off on it, then it won't matter.

Yeah the owners need to have their own mediation just so they can come to some kind of agreement on what they want.

They have made some progress and will resume talks on Tuesday, so that only leaves a few days.

No they weren't. They had sporadic meetings where they disagreed with each other and the sides parted ways quickly and took shots at each other in the press afterwards. The meetings right around the Super Bowl were so bad that the owners walked out right in the middle. These negotiations are totally different.

What inside knowledge do you have that the rest aren't privy too?

There has been no discussion as to what has gone on in those meetings due to the agreement other than the mediator saying there has been "some progress" but "very strong differences remain"?

And with most of the owners not even there, the owners you mentioned to have walked out, is it a surprise the negotiations would go a little differently?

I don't need inside knowledge. You can infer what's going on by the signs on the outside, and the signs on the outside say that they're going well, or at least better than before.

Will a deal get done? Probably not. But the lashing at each other by each side in the media has subsided and that's a step.

All signs are pointing to a lockout.

If a deal does get done before the deadline, it'll be at the last minute/11th hour, IMO.

Players don't want OTA's they are gonna do a favre and sign 2 weeks before the season would normally start.

Yeah certain leaders of their own teams will organize practices and get ready for the season as they feel in case a deal doesn't get before the season starts.

PFT is reporting, via Adam Schefter of ESPN, that the NFLPA will decertify if no deal is in place by March 4.

Well looks like Armegeddon has hit the NFL.

Hopefully they iron something out before the season starts.

I wonder if the decerification is going to backfire. Sure they can now sue the NFL, but what happens when individual players need money or don't really like or think they need the union. This could rip apart the NFLPA.

If that happens it'll probably be the guys who are near the league minimum who try to cross the lines as they're gonna need the money and really it seems the union works harder to make the richer players more rich which leaves the other guys in the cold.

It'll be interesting to see how strong the union really is if they do decertify and it doesn't look like a solution to the CBA is at hand.
