So the NFL wont open the books, who is to say that there is indeed $9b of revenue? What im starting to suspect (Only suspect, i have nothing to back this up) is that the Owners see the books, and see closer to $5b or $6b in revenue, and dont want to open the books and let the union see that.. If something like that is the case, and the Owners get that $2b off the top, then your looking at a final split of closer to $4.5b to the owners, with the Union only getting $1.5b. No proof, simply suspicion.

Re: Official CBA Thread
This is all on both sides becoming greedy, but I feel the owners are trying to royally screw the players.
I mean, an extra billion off the top to the owners, PLUS a pay cut for the players?
Not to mention wanting to add things the players don't want, like an 18 game schedule.
To me I think a "fair deal" would be the owners getting 1 billion, then the remaining 8 billion be split 53.75% for the players, 46.25% for the owners.
Owners would be getting 4.7 billion, the players 4.3 billion.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Ready, set, solution:
-Owners get $1.5 billion off the top
-Players take 54% of the remaining $7.5 billion.
-Any new revenue streams follow similar distribution
-Owners and Players chip in that 6% for post career health care
-Rookie Wage Scale
-Increase in Salary Cap Floor
-Removal or Reworking of Franchise Tag
-6 years required for UFA status
-New clauses in all contracts that allow team to recoup Guranteed Dollars in the event of felony criminal CONVICTION (not charges). Includes Salary Cap relief.
-16 Game season
-New LA Stadium is the host of all Super Bowls going forward following 2014 Super Bowl in New York
-Outside mediation for Disciplinary Appeals.
Isn't this basically what both sides are after? How hard is that?Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Count me in the group too. The NFL is just too big for its own good at this point. All these exclusive deals because it's so lucrative to do business with the league. Maybe losing a season or throwing scrubs on the field and watching fans turn their backs on the league for a bit would end up benefiting the fans in the long run.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
My feelings exactly. Football is the only sport I watch (moreso NFL than college), but a big part of me wants this thing to go down in flames. It's time for both parties to realize that fans are the only ones really getting screwed. And what goes unnoticed is that we're literally funding the league with our tax dollars! How do we not get a say when all of the newer stadiums are half-funded by us? This crap makes my blood boil so I'll be stepping a way for now.
Here's a good article that talks about the greed of the NFL and how it treats its fans. It sums it pretty well why I feel the way I do.

Re: Official CBA Thread
Seems like this mediation stuff might be more effective than I thought.

Re: Official CBA Thread
Yep the mediation seems to be working really well. Since they've gone to mediation we haven't heard one peep about the negotiations. This is a great development and may stave off any kind of work stoppage.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official CBA Thread
Hope that you are right SPTO. I am taking the more negative stance though. When mediation fails (if it does. I hope not) both sides will come out throwing daggers. I figure it's been so quiet as a condition of mediation. I really hope that a deal can be reached, but I have this sinking feeling this is the calm before the storm. I really hope that I am wrong though.Moderator

Didn't both sides also agree separately to not talk to the media regarding the labor strife? Not that the meetings aren't going better, but I'm not so certain that we can be sure either way how they are going.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
That may be the case but something ALWAYS leaks out to the media even if there's a self imposed ban on saying anything. I don't think anything of note has been leaked since they've gone into mediation.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
