    Re: Official CBA Thread

That idea is stupid, straight up. You're forced to sit a player for 2 games a year? That's just assinine. Not to mention, like others have said, fans would be outraged. It's not good for anyone except the players, and I'm sure they don't want to sit out either. They're competitive as hell, they want to play. They just want to be fairly compensated if there is a longer regular season.

This whole 18 game season is so stupid. It would be cool in the video games because you don't have to worry about real people. But in real life, these are real human beings putting their long term (and short) health at risk to play a game. Yeah, they get paid handsomely, but still. It's stupid and reeks of pure greed on the owners and NFL's part. Sickens me. Get that trash out of here.

I'm to the point that I really don't care if there is a lock out. I'll be ok with college football and high school football.

That's my camp as well. I wouldn't mind seeing the league brought down a notch or two.

That's my stance as well. Not so much on the CFB and HS football stuff because I'm really into NFL football and only slightly dabble in college athletics, but to see the league get bumped a notch or two would be nice. In the end, us as fans lose. So if they lock out, it hits both the players and owners where it hurts most: the pockets. The owners might be able to get one over on the players by saying it's the NFL brand that sells, and the players may say they are the ones who make the league, but neither are anything without OUR money. But for some reason, we have no say in any of this BS. Go figure.

Sitting a player out for 2 games is the worse idea ever!

I think a deal will get done and we see football this year. They don't want to take the route of the MLB in 94 and lose fans.

Really a depressing thought. The BCS and it's cronies are more corrupt and sad as both parties in this ordeal, imo.

No football on Sundays next year...I might just cry myself to sleep over the thought.

Definitely. I think its a horrible, ridiculous, unfathomable idea.

It's fairly obvious; the NFL owners think this cash cow prints money regardless of what they do. I've already heard ESPN radio folk trying to spin it as something to be outraged about because of the loss of football games over billions of dollars, not as a result of the problems within the CBA and not as a result of the problems with owner conduct in how they treat their teams and fans as mere renewable resources.

For those thinking that this could be resolved and everything will be alright well....I doubt filing a grievance with the NLRB is the regular business of negotiating.

Yeah, I don't think the NFL will operate next year.

As someone else said, the NFL at this point thinks it's king of the hill and it can pretty much do whatever it wants. Now, I've no doubt that 95% of the people here on OS will continue to watch the NFL even after a full year of lockout, but the average football fan is going to lose interest. The NFL would take a huge hit if it didn't play for a year, and it would take awhile to recover, or even allow other sports to jump in. I see the owners as making a huge mistake not only in terms of simply promoting the game, but also in terms of making a profit.

The only reason I remain optimistic is because both sides have too much to lose.

They may make MUCH more money than us "normies" but at the end of they day, the players still have lifestyles and bills to pay that are based on a salary they will not be getting.

If you are used to being able to go out and spend 5k a night and not think twice, would you want to give that up? For every player that doesn't have a mortgage, my guess is that at least 5 others do.

My concern is how long will it take (aside from the obvious concern that it won't happen at all). If they make this an 11th hour agreement and teams are told they have 3 weeks until the season starts, where does that leave us?

It might not be terrible for teams that are relatively established and have very little to do, but think about the affect of a late agreement would have on a team like the Broncos (or really any team with a new coach).

Ok, we have a new agreement, now go sign your second overall pick along with the rest of them, sign your free agents and install a new defense in 3 weeks...GO!

No sympathy for either side. The fans are the ones getting screwed while the Owners debate for the Majority share

The NFLPA made a very reasonable offer with the 50/50 share. The players have already agreed to take a cut and now the owners want more? Wow, man I don't know if something is gonna get worked out. Either way its gonna leave a sour taste in my mouth about the league after this. The Greed is overwhelming
