Why exactly won't LA want NFL? I thought NFL is popular across all of USA....If NHL can have success within California, why won't NFL?

Re: NFL Off Topic
I don't know. People still think LA is full of casual sports fans who aren't interested in supporting a sports team because the weather is so nice, and there are so many things to do, I guess. It's not really supported by facts, but whatever.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Carson is offering the NFL a lucrative deal. Besides the stadium, they would get extra land, which could be used to host the NFL Network and the draft.
NFL apparently wants the Chargers in LA above the other two teams, even though San Diego is trying to offer a deal to keep the team.
They supposedly do not want Conkey to build the stadium on his own, on the land he already owns, because he'd be doing it with all his money and they don't want to set the precedent of building a new stadium without any public money.
So there's a potential lawsuit, Conkey forcing the issue.
The Raiders appear to have the least juice. At best, they can hope NFL makes the deal for them, so that they would share the Carson stadium with the Chargers.Comment

It will be a novelty that wears off when the team loses and they'll ditch LA when the lease is up. Rinse and repeat.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I doubt it. The NFL isn't what it was in the 1980s and early 1990s. You had strikes, a psycho Al Davis running amok, and nowhere near the money they have now. I think it'll work.Last edited by dubcity; 08-12-2015, 07:07 PM.Comment

How many teams are going to have to move away for people to accept the fact that LA isn't a pro football town?Last edited by coogrfan; 08-12-2015, 09:11 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Or they can't get the city to pony up for a new stadium. Vikings and Jaguars talked about moving to LA. Vikings got a stadium deal but not sure what's happening in Jacksonville.
Then there are all these billionaires with money to buy sports teams, believing they can replicate their business success in sports. With NFL TV money, it's kind of hard to lose money.
NFL attendance is soft in many cities so if LA doesn't pack the new stadium or stadiums, it won't be anything new. Owners are optimistic they can make a lot of money in LA, especially with the sweetheart deal but if not, they can have a good 10-20 year run and worry about moving if they need to.Comment

People in Los Angeles don't deserve a professional football team. Let them spend their Sundays doing hikes, visiting trendy cafes and posting pretentious pictures of both instead.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 08-12-2015, 11:44 PM.Comment
