If they do that, they need to make it so the linemen play. Have a game with linemen only. Then another game with RB, WR vs LB, DB. Then also switch it up each quarter so that the defenders also get to play on offense.

Most flag leagues I've played has three down linemen (pass eligible) and then 5 others, w/ QB being one. So 8 on the field. That would cover everyone.

Also 8 players is the USFFA official number also.

I think he was saying have a game where linemen play QB, receiver, etc, but maybe I took his post wrong

I happened to be flipping through channels and saw the classy move that they did at the Pro Bowl having Jeff Saturday under center for Peyton Manning for one last time.

Kudos to the coaches and players for that.

Yeah, seems like asking Vince Wilfork and Trent Williams to play WR/CB is asking for a lot of ACL's on 300 pounders to do an awful lot IMO.

Didn't make it through the whole game but it did start off well. Guys were at least trying out there.

After the piece on Saturday I was thinking, the whole thing might be better if they selected entire offensive lines instead of specific players. It's true, these guys don't get to practice together but pass rushers don't need to gel as much with the rest of the front 7.

The pro bowl isnt suppose to be that serious though. Not a fan of entire olines making it.

I dont think you can do all that much to the Probowl to make it better. Nobody wants to go hard because there is no positive in doing so. I dont see a problem with that reasoning.

And nobody would watch flag football.

It wouldn't be to make it more serious. The problem is even though olinemen can be individually dominant, it's much harder for them than any other "group" when they haven't practiced and built chemistry. So you've either got defenders clearly loafing or getting insane jumps. As a pass rusher, you're voted to the pro bowl bc of that skill so not displaying it defeats the whole purpose. The oline and Qb are at a complete disadvantage and then another question comes of how hard does the defender go when they get through.

It's not like other sports... you can't just turn it on and off and just picking and choosing when to turn it on is even worse in this game. It's true for all positions. You see "beast mode" but what makes it impressive is when he does it to defenders trying to tackle him. Everything can't be fixed but I think putting in an actual oline that plays together would at least allow everyone to try without worrying about killing someone.

If it were up to me they'd just vote for all pro and "pro bowl votes" would be for players who would then perform skill competitions. But if the game is going to continue, I think having an entire oline would help it a bit.

Fair enough. And I was one the skills competition boat as well as far as pro bowl activities but I dont think those would draw views. If their goal is to get a bigger viewership for the pro bowl, they would have to make it worth something other than bigger pay days to the players. Im not to sure what they can do to save the probowl in that respect.

That's the real problem. The pro bowl still pulls crazy numbers. I guess people just want to see football. Hell I "try" to watch it every year before getting bored. It'd probably be better to just stop talking about it and leave it be... somehow it already works.

I do think it should be after the SB though. Let the guys on the teams that went the farthest have a chance to play. There are enough fake injuries keeping real pro bowlers out of the game to not have to replace another big chunk of guys.

The numbers have been decreasing every year. This year, it did a 3.3, less than 10 million people, and almost a full point lower than last year's 4.2 (over 12 million).
