Bon Jovi has backing from MLSE who DO want to move the team. Basically the theory is that Bon Jovi, Tim Lieweke and the folks at MLSE are all working together and there's a bit of a quid pro quo kind of thing going on where Bon Jovi is being asked to help facilitate a full time move to Toronto.

There's just as many teams in Florida (Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Miami) as there are in the NY market (Buffalo, Giants, Jets)...Bills makes the most sense to move to Canada.
Carolina Panthers - NC State Wolfpack - Charlotte Hornets - Brisbane Roar FC - VfB StuttgartComment

Yeah but nobody in that FL market cares. A majority of the people in FL either don't like NFL, only really follow college, or cheer for an out of state team.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The NY market isn't really crowded so much as upstate NY is just the ruins of 19th century industrialism like the rest of the rust belt making it highly undesirable for a franchise. If the NFL started up today, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Detroit would probably not have teams. The NYC market isn't really crowded either because it is one of a handful of cities that can support two franchises in one sport.
I'm really hoping the alumni club can get more backers to help them buy the team because the Bills leaving Buffalo can only hurt a city that is already in a real bad spot.Last edited by Kaiser Wilhelm; 11-25-2013, 11:37 AM.Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

They aren't going anywhere for around 10 years. After the lease ends, maybe, but not until then.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Im telling you. The players are all over the fans for booing but some of these guys havent seen Hostle fans yet! Reporters asked Antonio Smith if he thought they would blow up the team and he tried everything to get around the question but in the end said"It wouldnt Surprise me". Kubiak has to go, depending upon who comes in Wade Phillips may be out and players like Foster and Johnson could be shopped. I feel bad for Andre. I really want him to get a ring or atleast make it to the SB.atleast..Its not DelawareComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
In other news, a sports business guy from Toronto was on another station and he was talking about how Toronto will definitely need a new stadium for this to work. He said that Toronto will make a HUGE push for the 2024 Olympics and regardless if they get the games or not the new stadium would then be converted for NFL use.
This story has a lot of moving parts but this is the most serious and closest the Bills are to moving to Toronto.
BTW as for the market thing, I really don't consider Buffalo a NY market team neither does the NFL. They (and I) view it as a regional team encompassing the Golden Horseshoe/Toronto in Ontario through most of upstate NY. That's very different from being a NYC type market which taps into the media and business opportunities. I tell you though, if Buffalo had access to that there would be NO talk of this team leaving.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
Something that popped in my head while watching a little Grey Cup yesterday. Is the Canadian Football League suffering from financial issues? I could have sworn I heard something about the league having some problems in that area.
Why wouldn't the NFL purchase the league and turn it into some kind of minor league system for their franchises. Obviously I'm not educated at all on the topic, but it's something that crossed my mind. Would put them in complete control of the market in Canada. I don't know, just a though.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Jason La Canfora (who broke the story) was on the radio here this morning and said that the NFL sees Buffalo as a regional market and that if worse comes to worse we may see Buffalo and Toronto split the home dates 4 to 4. That's not exactly a great idea but if that's what it takes to keep the Bills in Buffalo I guess that would be preferable to completely tearing the team away from the area.

This year saw a slight softening of the TV numbers and some people being a little dissatisfied with some of the scheduling of games. (mainly not having the Argos/Ti-Cats Labour Day Classic due to scheduling conflicts) Having said that, the league is still on very solid financial ground and with the new Ottawa team tapping into the football rabid Quebec City market as well there's going to be an increase in revenue. We've already seen a new stadium in Winnipeg, Hamilton's got a new stadium for next year and Saskatchewan will be playing in a new building as well.
The CFL is too successful now for the NFL to just gobble it up and make it a developmental league.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
The CFL was last in real financial difficulties in 2002 since then it's been extremely healthy with great TV numbers, corporate support and the emergence of Saskatchewan as a merchandising powerhouse. That franchise alone more than doubles in merchandising etc etc than every other team in the league. The league is also returning to Ottawa next year and doing it the right way too this time with local DEDICATED ownership.
