What a shame Junior Seau not being around on his big day is.

No one explicitly stated it, but it can be implied because Bettis got in and Pace didn't.

Eh, the NFL HOF isn't like baseball IMO. The whole first ballot thing doesn't apply nearly as much. Now if we're sitting here 8 years from now and Pace isn't in the Hall than we've got a beef for sure.

That's....mindblowing. I can't imagine that's the general consensus. Eh, whatever.

What does the ballot have to do with it? He's not going to become a better football player next year or the year after. Throughout his career he was a better football player than Bettis, therefore he deserves to get in before Bettis.

Honestly, I don't even think Bettis was that special of a player and, in general, the RB to OL ratio is way out of whack in the HOF. Currently there's 40 OL in and 29 RBs. That's ridiculous considering 5x as many linemen play in the game.

Present day, we've finally started to assign proper value to the RB position. It's time the HOF catch up.

Well we can argue the relative merits of Bettis' HOF candidacy but i've seen enough of his career to say he's a HOF'er. As for Pace, I also think he's a HOF player but c'mon let's not cry over spilt milk here. You know a lot of people were going to be riding Bettis' jock.

Pace will get in and there's no diminishing how great of a career he's had. I mean, other than Bettis you can't really swap out anyone else in favor of Pace.

What does any of this have to do with the fact that Jerome Bettis was not a more valuable football player than Orlando Pace? Do you think there was ever a moment, in either of their careers, when the Rams would have traded Pace for Bettis straight up?

He'll get in eventually, of course, but it still boggles my mind. Other than Bettis, it's a very deserving class.

The HOF is not about who's more valuable etc etc. I can make the argument that Bettis was more important to the Steelers than Pace was to the Rams. Pace was indeed. There's no way the Steelers would trade Bettis to the Rams because the Steelers had some very good OL men but Bettis as the RB was the straw that stirred the drink. He was the focal point of that offense for most of his career.

Your argument is bordering on ridiculous just because you don't care for Bettis.

On a team with very good offensive linemen, how much better do you think Bettis was over a replacement level talent?

Huh? Warner doesn't survive as long as he did in that system without Pace. Pace was a top player until he walked away; Bettis was a role a player. Being a focal point of an offense should not equal first ballot HOF'er.

Pace was one of the best offensive linemen of all-time. Total BS that he didn't get in this year.

Bettis was simply a guy that lucked out by playing in a run first offense and stayed relatively healthy for the entirety of his career. He's pretty much the very definition of a stat stuffer. He never would have gotten in if it were up to me.
