Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
It does make one wonder what the process is here and who's involved in making product direction decisions.
I really hope they are getting great real golfer input on this.
I'll be tremendously bummed if they just didn't cast a wide enough net and the gameplay or new swing sucks as a result..
Going "stealth" isn't great on something like this. It's one reason I wish it were on PC, as it might increase the chances of some type of closed beta during development. (since that's so easy to do on PC)
Also, that part of the game design is over. Both golf games will be what they be. I expect most people will end up liking the game they think they will. The approaches are different enough that I don’t see a lot of crossover.
I’m not worried, because I have enjoyed TWs and Rory’s gameplay. I expect I will like the new game’s gameplay. I’m just hoping they finish the game this time.
I don’t expect to like the gameplay in 2K23, but I will end up buying it and trying it at some point. Then I will just play whichever is more fun for various reasons.
What I don’t get is the stress. Because that’s all we do. Play games, stick with ones we like. We have two golf games coming. We all just need one to scratch our itch, and we all have our own itches we need scratched.
To be honest, unless one of the games just ****s the bed, which I just don’t see happening, I expect most people will have plenty of golf to play.Comment

We are all friends here and trying to just have a fun/cordial atmosphere.
Nobody is "stressing" -- we are just excited and hopeful and discussion about all this is what we have right now and it's fun to think and talk about!
Folks come up with some cool ideas in conversation here (I think).
One never knows who is reading what and where.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
If the game is good enough, I’ll happily pay for a ‘2023 PGA Championship DLC’ for example that added the course and a golfer. (Of course even better if it was free!)
It doesn’t need to be a yearly thing, just don’t abandon it like Rory.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
They've got their model, TW14. The scope was done a long time ago for next game, it's just a matter of how much content / development time, including new swing mechanic, they can get in with the $ allocated.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
Don't we have to at least acknowledge that we have no idea what they are using for a model of this game?
I mean ... we'd like/love them to do a TW14 with Rory visuals (brought up to modern standards)... But do we know that's the plan?
Unless I missed something, we don't have any clue what their goals are here, do we?Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
They already have the 4 Majors like TW14... they're building on the career mode fm Rory. How much we're getting with the $ allocated, no idea. That's the difference how they're building their game vs HB/2K game. EA PGA will be the career and arcade mode of golf game. HB/2K will be the golf game for weekend warriors, with unlimited golf courses done by creators. Almost all the PR from EA has been about career mode so far.Comment

Sounds good to me
The more real licensed courses in Frostbite, the better
That's a huge part of the appeal to me here.
I hope 2k has come up with some way to nuke the "sameness" of all the courses from their creator software and system design.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
The ability to use all trees, plants, etc. in any theme is great and helps allow for more customization, but the initial set up is quite restrictive. That's why so many courses end up looking and feeling so similar. You can only dress up certain similar themes so much to make it feel unique before it just feels like other courses that use the same theme. Also, lots of assets/trees/objects are completely worthless and would look silly on any course. So they never get used at all.
I guess my uneducated solution would be to add to the number of themes, or allow for complete customization of the plot - perhaps even allowing designers to use real world LiDAR data to build courses on actual plots of land. I mean, other people found ways to unofficially do that, so why not allow it officially in some capacity?Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 05-31-2022, 04:52 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023
Judging by the cover, I’m guessing this is as close as we are ever going to get to the type of game we want.
A far cry from the night club challenge.
But hey, anyone up for night club challenges at Amen Corner? LololololComment

Dunno, read many times Tiger had his fingerprints all over the TW series. And Patel is supposedly close to a scratch golfer too. Expertise has always been there.
As for the Night Club, didn't mind it. It wasn't for me, was a gimmick for the new generation players, all arcade. Wasn't much worse than mini Tiger and his life to adult.Comment
