This game does play *very well* when it's working right, especially once you figure out the different (harder?) swing mechanics.

Having a great time with it when I do get to play.
It is the best golf game out there bar none at the moment. Some may disagree. It is not a given that it will be overtaken by EA. Visuals most likely but maybe not gameplay.

I think this is a very astute comment, and has everything to do with EA succeeding or failing. We know it's going to be gorgeous to look at. But they have to at least get to the current level of 2k23 in actual *taking a shot* and playing the game hole by hole, course to course, to be a smashing success.

That's not a guarantee. But it does kind of seem like with many years of Golf Club and 2k21 and now 2k23 gameplay, how can they not be at least as good as those games, plus stunning graphics and all the majors?

Gawd I hope they don't blow it.

How many of us chumps bought this day one, or like me, waited until the following week, paying $69 lol. Oh well. Obviously it's not selling anywhere near what 2k21 did.

I will be very surprised, if they even admit it, that this game sells 500-700k copies before EA comes out. 2k21 was what, 2.5 mil?

Hasn’t basically every version of TGC/2K golf been at half off around Christmas of the release year?

Never been discounted this quickly. I got the game 9 week ago. Not that I play 2k BB anymore but I could have had both for less than the 60 bucks I paid.

Ea's hockey game came out the same day and was pretty much half off on BF as well.

The game sucks, plain and simple.
                  Oh well.
Bring on March and let’s see if EA can FINALLY release a good sports game again.

I think the lack of majors, and Ea coming out next spring featuring all 4 majors contributed to the lack of sales this years. Not to mention the game comes out in the fall, which IMO is the time of the year when the interest in golf is at the lowest.

I don't even think TW12 the Masters sold 2M copies, TW13 and TW14 sold even less. We probably have to go back to TW10 for 2M copies, and that's with more than 1M copies sold for the wii. I think 2K/HB got lightning in a bottle with the Covid situation for 2K21.

I agree wholeheartedly about the lightning in a bottle comment re: 2k21

That was very much the major aberration in this niche and I suspect it won't be duplicated again by anyone

Then HB took that lightning in a bottle as a compliment that they’d made a hugely successful & well accomplished golf game & continued to rerelease that same game labelled as 2k23 for double the price.

No problems since moving over to 3 click the past couple of weeks. Not much wrong with the game that some legit mo caps wouldn't solve. Don't get the hate for the game. As long as they use Unity this is the best the graphics can ever look. Played all the games since inception and while you might think 60 bucks is too much to pay this edition advances the game more than the previous ones ever did. Lots of very good courses to play too bad you can't use them in a decent career mode.

The game plays well. I don't think many people have qualms about how it plays when you're on the course, besides the interesting situations where people have difficulty getting the swing to complete with the analog stick. Personally, it's one of the best golf games I've ever played, gameplay-wise...there just isn't much to do.

My issues with the game all stem from the inclusion of the arcade elements that this series seemed to be so against in previous iterations. Imagine thinking, back when TGC 2 came out, that one day this series would offer players golf balls that could slow down greens and make conditions softer, or that you could equip a Skill Point that would let you get a distance boost when hitting into a headwind...

That, plus all the issues behind the scenes that they can't seem to fix, like the busted leaderboards, broken sudden death playoffs in career mode, the never-ending disconnects, and all the things they removed from previous games that haven't been added back in yet - ranked multiplayer, keyboard and mouse controls in the course designer for those on PC, playing against ghosts in society rounds, etc.

I spent a TON of time in 2K21, playing local rounds, messing around in career mode, designing courses, participating in TGCT, etc. And this was basically right up until 2K23 released over 2 years later.

In 2K23, I play maybe a local round here or there, but career mode has nothing left for me now that all rewards are unlocked (that took about 1 in-game season to complete), the designer is still glitchy, and I am not really good enough to compete on Master in TGCT. Good new courses are coming out at a snail's pace due to the issues with the course creator. Many "big name" designers don't design anymore, at all.

I have started playing basketball, hockey, and football games more frequently, and don't know what will happen to change that to bring me back to 2K23 and spend time with it as I did with the previous entry in the series.

Never have used anything other than the default ball. Just play now only tried to do a career to pick up clothing never got much other than a cap or a driver here and there. I have come to like the fittings but other than power increases I am not sure they do anything to improve your inputs into the game. If you miss timing or path fittings really don't help.
One good thing about getting old is games are always a challenge. Master 3 click is hard enough for me so this game never gets stale with all the courses you can play.
