Their dummies, all they have to do is copy or make a variation of what XBL is doing. Sony is digging a hole right next to the ATARI JAGUAR, 3DO, and 32X. They have a nice piece of hardware that is going to waste and by the time it gets off the ground which could be in a year or two, it will be too late as Nintendo and Microsoft will be leaps ahead of them.

LOL, look at you full of PS3 hate now....

It's not going to be next to the 3DO, Jaguar, 32X, etc anytime soon. It's selling, games are being made, and people are buying the games.

Am I thrilled with the PS3 right now? No, not at all, I've had many regrets on dropping money on it. BUT, I'm a gamer, I'd have it some point anyway, since I had all the consoles you listed above as well. Only console I never owned that I can think of is a Turbografix 16, only one game I ever wanted on it, and that game hit the Wii VC yesterday.

Yeah, I'm on a PS3 hate trip this week. Its like they are just continually making mistake after mistake. I know I'm not getting rid of the PS3 as I have too much invested into it, but just doing some venting. LOL!

Splatterhouse was fun back in the day on the TG16. How well did it translate over to the Wii VC?

I agree, I have been moving the last 3 weeks, and been in my new place a week now and I haven't even hooked up my PS3 yet, I sold the 360, you already know this, but I've been playing the psp like crazy (MLB the SHOW) and I love this game. I do miss the 360 somtimes and wish I still had it, I really don't regret my PS3 purchase at all, I'm just being patient right now, I still believe the PS3 will take off, it will take time, by the way I owned the Turbografix 16 and loved it, BONK baby BONK...LOL

Translated exact, the original with the the red mask, not the later toned down Genesis sequels with the white mask.

Well I've decided that no matter what I'll be keeping the PS3. I'm positive for the next year at least that the 360 and PC will get the most of my gaming time. However I do not want to do with the PS3 like I did with the PS2 and that is be on my 7th PS3 before it was all said and done. I'd get rid of the PS2and then pick another one up later. I'm keeping mine until either : It dies, or it clear no exclusives are for me.

So, is it confirmed that background downloading is confined to the XMB? Or also in-game, PSN connectivity permitting (similar to XBL features stopping BD for the 360)?

PS3 Update to Allow BG Downloads During Games
Feature strangely mentioned only in European announcement.

Earlier today, 1UP questioned Sony's decision to implement background downloading into the upcoming PlayStation 3 firmware update, but prevent people from playing games simultaneously. While we'd previously speculated this would come in a future update, apparently Sony Computer Entertainment America only neglected to mention it actually would be there later this week -- something SCE Europe clearly points out. From the SCEE press release:

"Up to 6 pieces of content from the PlayStation store can be queued up for download while the user enjoys other functions of the PS3 system, including playing games, browsing the web, using media functions including photo browsing, video and music playback. Progress of downloads can be easily tracked under a new Download Management menu under the XBM's network icon."

Why the omission in the American announcement? Your guess is as good as ours.

                      -------------------------------------------------------------

If Europe is getting it so will we.

What a bunch of ****ing idiots. Sorry, I am happy to hear this, but how in the hell do you leave something like that out of an announcement. That was one of the most disappointing pieces of news from the US announcement earlier, and now their saying, oops you can do it we just forgot to mention it. Someones got to get things under control at Sony. Also who knows which one actually made the mistake? Maybe SCEA was right that its not in-game an SCEE is wrong. I hope SCEE is right, but with Sony you just never know anymore. All I do know is that in the initial previews of the update it was mentioned clearly several times that background downloading would have its limitations. So I'm afraid that SCEE may be wrong here, and that there is no in-game downloading. Confirm something soon Sony. Another thing, if that is indeed an Official release from SCEE, it doesn't bode to well that they misspelled their own XMB, they put it XBM. Very fishy things indeed.

According to IGN they have "confirmed" with Sony that there is indeed bg downloading while playing games offline. Hopefully true then, or at least they better hope its true.

I know, I still have my serious doubts, because ALL week they said that bg downloading would have limitations and that you cannot download in-game. Now they say you can, but only in their European press release, not the American one. They need to confirm something, but chances are they won't say a word and we will just have to find out ourselves when the firmware is released.
