So if EA decides that it doesnt want people being able to buy Madden used on the XB1, it can.
the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 will all have the architecture to do this... its called the internet...

if EA decided the only way to activate a game on the console was to have a one time only code attached to the physical game manual they could do that. and they could hard code the game to require you to redeem that code via the internet before you even get to a playable menu... all they would really need to do is slap a "Requires Online Connection" sticker on the box and call it done.

I was going to really argue this point because its not correct but I'm at the **** it stage now. There is a big difference between EA or a throw party publisher creating the infrastructure for online checks and MS or Sony creating it. The fact that its present at launch for MS and fully supported by MS is a big difference but whatever.

If people want to believe that Xb1 and Ps4 are the same when it comes to used games....go ahead. Its not true but believe what you wnat.

BTW for those saying the publishers won't go for it due to sales, what's to say MS isn't cutting the publisher a check to allow this.

my bad dude, I guess I should have highlighted the rest of your post... you mentioned 3rd party publishers would not be able to restrict used games on PS4 and to the best of my knowledge what I mentioned above could happen on PS4 right ?

I never said that the PS4 and Xb1 are the same when it comes to used games so I do not know if that was intended for me or not.

It could but its not likely. Why? Because Sony has made it clear that they dont want that happening on PS4 games. They are willing to allow 3rd ptys to do things like online passes but they will not support online checks or always online requirements and those things are needed in order to restrict used or rented games.

Sony has further clarified that they don't even want online passes, and EA says they aren't coming back on next gen.

Well, MMO games require online, so technically I think a PS4 game could require online. MAG did it for PS3...

In theory EA or someone could tie into Origin and require a login there to play online or whatnot, but that's pretty crazy and difficult.

I agree with you that MS has made it way easier for Publishers to deny used game sales vs. what Sony's letting them do. Just playing devil's advocate (MS's decisions aren't defendable, per se. You just understand their motivation and determine if those benefits outweigh the negatives).

From what I understand NO. When you allow a Family member to play you basically give them "the rights" to play. You cannot play while they do. In a sense you forfeit the right to play while they play it. But you can "get the rights back" and once you do that you can play but they can't. That's how I understand it.

As far as used games, this is similar to buying a game on your Android phone or your Ipad. You cannot sell them like you would be able to sell a 360, PS2 ect game. For instance, I bought Angry Birds, Backbreaker, ect on my Ipad. There is no where for me to sell those games. I see Xbox 1 being exactly like this on a larger scale. I don't have a problem with it because I actually DO it on other devices. I'm just paying more to do the same thing in this case.

So going back to the family thing for a second, if me and my brother are on the same Ipad/Xbox 1 we can play at the SAME time. But I cannot go in my house on my Xbox 1 and he is in his house in VA on his Xbox 1 and play the game at the same time unless he buys the rights from the middle man (which at this point we are not sharing anymore) who will be a combination of MS and the publisher.

That's how I understand it. Anyways, pre-ordered the system Ryse, NBA 2k14, Forza 5 today. Contemplating Dead Rising 3 and of course Killer Instinct will be digital so I will get that too. Right now though my Gamestop is not allowing pre-order of additional controllers for X1. They are doing so for PS4 though.

that depends on how the family accounts work. MS is going to a single gold account to allow access to "sub-accounts". so say you have a gold account, your kids will also have gold if they are associated with your account without having to pay extra.

MS has already stated that regardless if someone in your "family" is playing your game, you can still play your game. but they didn't make it clear if that applies to multiple Xbox Ones. The wording used on their official page make it seem it'll be possible for you and 1 family member to play the same game at the same time on different xbox ones.

Both you and your member can play the same game @ the same time.

You play the physical copy, they download the digital copy..

I'm still having a hard time believing that, that response from Xbox Support is vague enough where they could mean you can have 2 accounts playing the same game on the same console. For example, if you were at my house playing Halo, I could be on my gamertag and you on yours instead of you being a guest. I hope I'm wrong, because that would be insanely awesome.

Guys look @ it like Digital Copy on a BR Movie. You can install it & watch it on an approve device (IE: Ipad/Apple Computer)

The difference is your digital copy gets stored on "Your Cloud" & stays there forever for you to share.

Everything I've seen claims if you are playing Your game(Physical Disk) your member can play the same game with you from the cloud.

Also remember they don't have to wait for it to download, because you can play while downloading.

The other piece is Digital Copy BR are time restricted. (Need to watch before a certain date) If that date expires, you lose that ability.

My guess games will have a feature like this

There are no restrictions on "who" you add or remove. This was stated by Yusef Medhi in the Arstechnica article I posted yesterday
